NJ Hospital and Starting Salary

Published

I was just wondering if some current nurses would mind divulging what hospital they started at and what salary they were started at. I'm far from taking my NCLEX but I am debating if I want to stay in NJ or move around a bit and would like to start a list of hospitals that had good reps and good starting salaries.

i am an rn with 32 years experience...i have a BSN...would anyone care to comment on my chances of a NJ hospital hiring me...i am 58 years old...:redbeathe

I would like to relocate from Florida back up north where I am originally from! N.J. is an option any know of good hospitals that are hiring? Also the starting salary? I have 3+ years experience! thank you!!

Anyone know what Valley Hospital is paying new grads?

Is Valley Hospital hiring new grads?

Is anyone at all, for that matter, hiring new grads in the state of NJ???

hi guys i posted sommething that i have read!!! are you aware of this??

update on ca nclex endorsement to vt prior to expiration

in this climate of immigration retrogression, it was recommended that california nclex nurses endorse to vermont prior to the expiration of the 3-year window of opportunity to provide ssa numbers to the ca state board of nursing. the vt state board reports that it has experienced an increase in endorsement requests as a result of this issue, leading them to review their policy and make some procedural changes, as follows:

vt requires the official nclex exam results. for example if you took the exam through ca; you will need to contact the california board of nursing and request a "certified copy of test results with photo" to be sent to the state of vermont board of nursing. california's fee for this is $10.00. (if you've already completed this step please proceed to step 2)

vt will need to have the verification of education form completed by your school and your official transcripts sent to them. you can print the verification of education form from their website http://www.vtprofessionals.org on pages 5 and 6 of the international nurse application.

vt requires the license verification form completed for your original nursing license and your most current nursing license. you can print this form from their website http://www.vtprofessionals.org on page 7 of the international nurse application.

note: for nurses in the united kingdom: vt can verify the license online. you need to fill out the verification form by putting in the caller code and pin number so that they can access your information from the nmc website.

once vt receives this information, they will then be able to process your application for licensure through the state of vermont.

as mentioned previously, please be aware when you start the re-endorsement process, that the ca board of nursing will have considered your application abandoned and your file will no longer be active. thus, it will be necessary for you to submit all educational credentials a second time to ca. while it will be inconvenient to do so, it will protect you from having to re-take the nclex-rn exam.

1. now my question is, does this mean they're requiring ca nclex nurses to endorse their papers to vermont?? because if they require it, im gonna endorse it to vermont and just to protect my nclex from expiring.., because until now i still dont have employer in california for me to be able to get the license. so is it a smart idea if i endorse it to vermont?

2. if ever im now a license holder at vermont,, can i endorse it to any state that i want? like for example if the time comes that i'll be able to find an employer to that specific state.

3. if the processing of the application to vermont is done,, and confirmed that im already a license holder at vermont.. are they gonna issue or send me a license card???

thanks guys

My base pay as a new grad to the ED is $25.26 at Kimball. There is a $3 and a $5 differential but I haven't figured out what times those figures pick up yet. I think the $3 is after 330pm and the $5 may pick up after 1130pm...this is all an assumption because it was not explained to me. I did notice after my first paycheck though that there was some sort of differential happening at some point. After taxes and without benefits yet, I took a $500 hit for two weeks pay. I forget if I claimed 1 or 0. At this rate I will be bringing $36k home a year. Not much you can do with that in NJ. Now I see why so many nurses have several jobs. I though they just loved the income or were careless spenders. My view has certainly shifted.

I am surprised at the hourly rates NJ hospitals offer. I never bothered looking what the hospitals were paying. I actually didnt care. I was just so desperate for a job.

Anyway, I ended up in LTC in NYC making $35/hr as a new grad working days. This seems a lot higher than some people are saying they got at NJ hospitals.

I always thought LTC paid less?

I was started out at 25.26 an hour at Community Medical Center Toms River. There is a $5 shift diff that is the whole 12 hour shift.

Jersey Shore starts you out at 25.27/ hour

i know this is kinda late to reply, but with ur experience i think u have a better chance on getting hired over a new grad. What my professors always says is that it is cheaper to hire an experienced nurse. The orientation phase is smoother and the hospitals like that. Where as it cost on average to train a new grad almost 20-49 thousand dollars per new grad.

heyy guys i'm moving to north jersey from texas in the next 6 months and I was wondering if the hospitals are hiring at this time , been a lpn on medsurg floor for 2 1/2/ years and in october i've been in critical care stepdown unit for a year this coming october as a RN , do I have a good chance of getting hired up there by any of the hospitals ???? any bit of information would help this TEXAN )))))

Yes many hospitals are hiring in NJ. It's better that you have experience. If you have certifications and your NJ license you have a pretty fair shot. Right SBHCS is doing a lot of hiring and UMDNJ. Check their website. Where will you be specifically? We can give you a better idea of the hospitals in that area. Good luck

HEYYYYY LAPORTAN :) , thanks for replying , umm i'm gonna be living near Teaneck/Leonia North Jersey area ( sorry not quite sure where that is either lol , i'm just another dumb Texan lol ) , would you happen to know as well if Hospitals will count my lpn experience or even look at it ? any advise to where to start looking , etc , etc any good step down units hiring that u know of , any info will help :)
