I was just wondering if some current nurses would mind divulging what hospital they started at and what salary they were started at. I'm far from taking my NCLEX but I am debating if I want to stay in NJ or move around a bit and would like to start a list of hospitals that had good reps and good starting salaries.
I see the ranges of salary, but what is the cost living in New Jersey. For instance what would a 3/2 house or townhouse run you? I live in Floruda now and plan to head North within the next year or so.
Sidenote: My husband plans to be a history teacher, middle to high school to be exatct, any info. on teacher salaries?

IMO I would say be ready to spend on average $280 - $320k for a 3/2 house or townhome in Bergen County, NJ....on up to $400k in areas with better schools.... That is unless you find a Bank owned property or short sale which there are many out here. property taxes may be higher as well.....I am saying this because i have relatives in Tampa and Ft Lauderdale and we pay more.
With respect to the teaching for your husband......does he have a Masters degree ?
Hello!20 years ago, I became a Nurse. I started at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ.
I don't remember my starting salary 20 years ago LOL.
Now I commute back and forth to Philadelphia and work in the ER at a center city hospital and get $63 an hour which is more than a lot of nurses are getting paid in NJ.
Hope this helped!
-Ashley, RN.
How much is the city tax now????
It is tough for new grads, the economy sticks for most hospitals. I have 2yrs experience and am making $35hr/night shift. NJ is expensive to live, I can't wait to get out of this state. I suggest you apply based on where you think you might want to live. Many new grads don't have jobs, try working as an aide or any position to get your foot in the door to help you get a job when you graduate. I don't think my hospital will be taking on any new grads this year.
Many contracts are online, here is the link to one
