Call Pay and Specialty Pay
Thanks for all the helpful responses. There are a few things my unit needs to look at and reconsider. It is mandatory to take atleast 12hr of call a schedule, sometimes 16 hr depending on staffing. We get 18.00 flat for signing up for the 12-16 hrs. If you get called in you don't reach overtime til after working 4 hrs, since we work 36 hrs a week. I feel it should be time and 1/2 as soonas we hit the door. We don't don't hourly pay to be on stand by or drive time pay.

Call Pay and Specialty Pay
I am curious to know if anyone has to take call on their Labor and Delivery Unit and if so what kind of call pay do you get and do you get any specialty unit pay. We all know that L&D is a special unit where not just any RN can float to and work but most L&D nurses to float to any unit and take a patient load. If so how many deliveries a year does you unit do. I'm trying to compare my unit to other units to see if us nurses are getting shafted, which I'm sure we are.

NYC L&D/Mother-Baby nurses
I'm a L&D nurse in Florida considering a move to NYC. What's the pay for a RN with 2 years L&D and 1 year med-surg experience?

Florida to Philly
Thanks so much your post was very helpful. What is the average cost for a 2/3 bedroom, apartment in a decent neighborhood? Do you think the pay for a nurse is compensation enough for the cost of living? If you don't mind me asking how old are you and do you have kids?

Florida to Philly
Hello Fellow Nurses, My family and I are contemplating moving from Florida to Philly and I was curious as to the cost of living in Philly such as rent for a 2-3 bedroom house, townhouse, or apartment. Pay for a nurse with 1 year of experience in L&D and Med-Surg? What are some good but inexpensive areas of town should I look into and what are some good public schools. My husband hopes to get a job as a middle to high school history teacher. What's the education job market outlook? We visited Philly almost 2 years ago and liked the vibe of the city. So now I need the reality of the city not just the tourist view. Any help would be appreciated.

Capital Regional Medical Center, Tallahassee
Yea you will find that alot of people/directors/managers are new. They recruit from other HCA's to get experienced staff to come and "fix" the unit. CRMC is not a "bad" hospital but you will hear alot if their staff saying they're a work in progress.

Capital Regional Medical Center, Tallahassee
This is a HCA ran hospital and from what I've heard, they have a high turnover rate and high pt to nurse ratio. They will orient you for a few weeks and then try to get you off orientation early to help their budget. I live in Tallahassee and work at Tallahassee Memorial so ofcourse I am biased. But you will find many nurses leave there to come to us.

18.20 + shift diffs. is correct. They offer a sign on bonus that you get 1/2 after 90 days then the other 1/2 after 2 years. Sad isn't it???!!!

Cervidil
1RN:2 Cervidil inductions. Is it standard to have CEM on all your cervidil inductions? We monitor before and 2 hours after placement, then every 4 hours unless MD orders CEM.

Making weight and RN,BSN
Thank you so much for all your responses. I was planning on doing my BSN starting in January. So sounds like I need to go ahead with this plan and be losing weight at the same time. I'm 24, married with 2 kids. Any insight from the women who are married with children and in the forces ie. how do you handle it when you're away from you family and what determines if your family can move with you.

Making weight and RN,BSN
I'm thinking about going into a branch of the military and I'm currently over the weight requirement. Do any branches help you to make weight? Also, I have my ADN in nursing and plan to start my BSN this January( hopefully). Do all military branches require a BSN or do they take you with a ADN? Lastly, I currently work labor and delivery and would like to stay in this field or work ER/Med-Surg any one have insight on any of these units in the armed forces?
