  1. well I'm currently a sitter/safety aid also in a hospital in NJ. At my current hospital we make a pretty good penny. well to be exact I make $11.50 for day shift which is 7-3, and $2 dollars more for 3-11 and $3.20 for 11-7 plus a dollar extra for working on the weekends. I love my job and i have been doing this for almost 2 years now while attending nursing school. Thank god I graduated and I am actively interviewing. So you do make good money depending on the facility, and you gain alot of experience. I am only specking from my experience. Good luck!!
  2. i'm a new grad who recently graduated with my bachelors degree in august and pasted my boards in october. i have been to 3 interviews since then and i was recently offered 2 postions from 2 different hospitals for the same type of unit. hospital a is a smaller hospital, it is not updated no medication cart, it smells a little funny, and i really did not have a good vibe when i walked onto the unit. it a big unit and they have problems with staffing their techs so you know what that means, i'm going to be doing double the work. and this unit is a telemetry unit. and its further away from my home about an hour. it is a full time position. hospital b is also a small hospital but it just joined with [color=#4c4c4c]meridian health in nj. so even through their system is a little behind i know it will change and they told me about all the changes they are going to have soon. this hospital is also a telemetry unit and also full time with benefits. hospital c i worked for them for 2 years as a tech and i floated around the hospital. this hospital is much more advanced and it is morristown memorial hospital, although they did not offer me a position yet, the interviewer seemed really interested. this hospital did not offer me full time but a per dim with full time hours, no benefits. i don't know what hospital i should choose. i love hospital c but hospital b is also good also. help any advice.

  4. I am currently a sitter in the hospital i am working, i swear it is the best job i have done. i am also a certified nursing assistant and go to nursing school full-time. If i did not have this job my last two years of nursing school i do not know what would have done. I was able to get a lot of studying and work done. And time i would be extremely lazy. As some one said before you do get challenging patients but once you talk to them and make them fell comfortable every thing else will fall into place. Now i am getting ready to start studying for my boards.
  5. i had a similar question on a exam and i picked gag reflex.
  6. WOW, is that an entrance exam, to get into the program? Because i know alot of schools use that as an in program exam and exist exam out of the program.
  7. Well i don't know you but from what you are saying u sound like a very considerate nurse and they would have never hired u onto ICU if they did not think u were competent. I am not a nurse as yet so i don't know how you feel but what i can say it seems as though you are in a place where your colleagues do not accept you and your manager do not respect and en-power you. How can u work when you are in constant uneasiness and afraid of making a mistake. I personally feel as though you may have to leave the ICU. You have no support. It best before you risk losing your license. Once you have a feeling you should act on it and move on and out!!!!!!!! Good luck and don't give up. :)
  8. Well it is uncommon for a facility to ask for drug testing. But as long as u are clean when the school ask for the drug testing i don't see a problem. But one thing i should add is that when u are planning to have a career in the medical field u need to think about the future. And how your actions can easily crush your dreams. Also you should talk to the instructors or an administrator prior to them finding out. It best for you to talk to them instead of them finding out. Its best to be as honest as possible.
  9. Wow, you deserve you license, you were dedicated and you never gave up. U are an inspirations to all. Congratulations! Thank you for the post:yeah:
  10. I don't think i would quit. If i was dealing with a peds client or meds that is life threatening, i would talk to a manger or someone who can help me with this problem. Or take a medication review class. To help prevent this from occurring again. My advise is to check, check and recheck when giving meds. That is what my professor's tell me. It is best to give the meds a little late than give it wrong. But don't be discouraged, we all make mistakes. :)
  11. I understand where u are coming from. I speck another language and i currently work in a hospital setting where i notice that their are those nurses who speck another language and they tend to stay with their own. I understand that sometimes u may feel self conscious , and wonder in the back of ur head thinking are they talking about me? But the best way to get threw this is to talk to them, or become friends with them. That's what i did. And they will respect u, and not speck their language when every you are around, Just tell them it makes u feel uncomfortable!:)
  12. Georgia has a very slow job market. I have a aunt who moved down there and she could not find a job, and she had over 3-5 years experience. Also she would always complain about the pay difference. So she eventually moved back to NJ. Good luck, the key to be successful is to be persistent, and continue apply!!
  13. i know this is kinda late to reply, but with ur experience i think u have a better chance on getting hired over a new grad. What my professors always says is that it is cheaper to hire an experienced nurse. The orientation phase is smoother and the hospitals like that. Where as it cost on average to train a new grad almost 20-49 thousand dollars per new grad.
  14. I think this is very important, and needed. Many people out their forget about the one person who got them threw nursing school. I am a firm believer that all things is possible though Christ Jesus. What i want to say is that this is a positive support thread, and i will continue to prey for those who are taking and preparing for their nclex boards exam.
