  1. I'M LOOKING FOR A PSYCH POSITION....anyone know which hospitals in westchester county or NYC hiring??? thanks...:redbeathe
  2. what's the difference between per diem and registry? can anyone explain this to me...thanks...pat:nurse:
  3. i am an rn with 32 years experience...i have a BSN...would anyone care to comment on my chances of a NJ hospital hiring me...i am 58 years old...:redbeathe
  4. hi all, i was originally licensed in ny, but have not worked in ny since 1981...is the pharmacy exam something that every new employee must take? also...can an rn with 30 years experience expect to get a job in a nyc hospital because of the increased salary? i am thinking of re-locating to the nyc area and would like to know what i will be up against... thanks for all your replies...:redbeathe
  5. :heartbeat rns to do assessments...health screenings and health fairs...long-term care insurance assessments...anyone know of some?? thanks...
  6. i see some comments about BJH...i did work there for a while...the morale is really bad there...the nurses are so burned out and frustrated...especially on the medicine floors...it is a great research hospital and i have had surgery there about 10 years ago...but to work there, i would think twice...st. mary's is a SSM hospital, which are very poorly run...they are very superficial...talk the talk, but can't walk the walk...when SSM took over it went downhill...the bottom line is money...st. lukes is a nice place to work...the nurses are generally nice to each other, avoid the 7600 unit...there is a "psycho" charge nurse that works there and when she is not flirting with the docs she is yelling at the staff...it takes all kinds!!! from what i have seen in 31 years is...most hospital nurses really don't want to be there, but for one reason or another, feel that's what they have to do...after about 5 years of hospital nursing, the young rns say they are burned out...and go on to something else...they work you like a dog and you get very little gratitude, except from the patients...management could care less...they have to have the right numbers at the end of the day...it's all a money game for management...sorry...i wish i could be more positive...now, i have had some great RN jobs...just not in a hospital...the great jobs are out there...you just have to be creative, flexible and willing to take some risks...i try to work in the hospital as little as i can...mostly to keep my skills up...
  7. don't ever expect a SSM hospital to back up their nurses...they are all talk...i was surprised they had this type of program...but i can assure you, working it was pure hell if that's any concilation... they are all about money and a "veiled caring about customers" which is a joke...i would NEVER go there as a patient...their doctors don't know what they are doing...you as a patient are basically a guina pig...they "candy-coat" for the patients, but underneath, the patient is always getting short-changed...
  8. hi, all you st. louis nurses...did you know the ssm hospitals had a program this summer and were paying some nurses $40.50/hr? the program is now ending and the wage is dropping drastically...made a lot of the regular staff angry...any comments? of course, i think all rns should be paid that wage on a regular basis for what we do...IMHO
  9. i have worked for 2 major hospitals in the st. louis area and have been disgusted with the "attitude" of the nurse's aides. management is so afraid to stand up to this lazy bunch of "mouthers" that's the name i give to those who never shut up...they mouth about this and mouth about that ...nursing is in a sad state of affairs...i say we go back to primary care nursing...and forgetaboutit...give the extra money to the rns...they do all the work anyway... i just spent the last 10 weeks at an ssm hospital and met 1-2 nurse's aides who know their job...and actually do it...you ask them to do something and they either stare at you, as if they didn't hear you...or they have some smart answer and management does nothing...oh sorry again...can't do anything...
  10. hi, i was wondering if anyone here works as a "diagnosis coder" and do you find there is a need for this kind of certification? i currently work in home health and have some limited experience in coding...i like the idea of working from home and working independently...thanks in adv:redbeathe ance for any responses
  11. thanks...that's my next step:idea:
  12. hi all, those of you who live in nc...how is wilmington for cost of living, amenities, etc and of course nursing jobs...i am 55 and divorced...i now work per-diem for home health agencies and will be considering a move in about a year...exploring places...always loved the coast...don't want to return to buffalo ny where i am from and am now living in st. louis...so tell me, what's it really like in nc...the good, bad and ugly!!
  13. hi, does anyone know if the Missouri Nurses Association offers a group health insurance for their members? i work prn for several companies and need to purchase my own health care plan...thanks in advance for any info:smiletea:
  14. hi, i would like to know if anyone would share some companies who hire nurses to do insurance physicals...i have a couple of names, one is LifePlans and would like to apply to more...any ideas?? thanks in advance...pattycake
