New to Ohio and frustrated

U.S.A. Ohio

Hi all,

I am from Michigan and was in nursing school there. The Friday before I started my first nursing class my husband was offered a job here. I only got one semester of nursing classes in before I had to move. I have been trying to get into and program here with no success. I have an appointment with a counselor at Wright state in June and Kettering on the 21st. In Michigan I was in an associates program. I told my husband that with the wait list for the programs here maybe I would just go for my bachelor's. Now I here there is a waiting list for that. I have all my prereqs done and everything seems like it will transfer. I was considering going for an LPN while on the waiting list for school. Anyone have any suggestions. I am completely depressed. I was hoping to be an RN by the age of 40 but now it looks like that won't happen.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. That would be highly frustrating.

I'm on the waiting list for Sinclair...been on it since last September. I don't know how bad WSU or Kettering is waitwise, but I'm assuming that there is probably a little bit of a wait anyway. The MVCTC has an LPN program ( see http://www.mvctc.com/adulted/MVCTCApdf/Pg10.pdf ) I suppose if you wanted, you could go through that program and then go to Sinclair for their LPN-RN bridge program, but I'm not sure if there's a waiting list to do that or not. If you went with Sinclair, it'd probably take you 3 years to get the ADN...WSU it would take around 4 to get the BSN. If money's an issue, Sinclair is the least expensive route, but again...there's that wait list you have to deal with. I guess it depends what you want to do.

Hang in there...it'll happen! :)

Kettering doesn't have a waiting list, but it's pretty expensive. I'm hoping to go there next year.

He is in the same boat and on a 3 year waiting list now up from a 2 years list he was told at first. He is going for a LPN degree first so he can work and move upward.

I was on a 2 year waiting list in the early 80s. I know it stinks.

Have you looked at Clark State or Edison State? I believe they both have associates's programs. How about Cincinnati State?

Can you just commute to a program in Michigan. Not sure exactly where you are in Ohio. Some of the smaller border towns may not have much of a waiting list. You can try to do your classes together and just stay for a few days each week. Same as many nurses have done in the past....

Kettering is my alma mater. :) There wasn't a waiting list when I attened there. At times since, I have heard there is, but I don't believe it's any where near the wait at Sinclair. In fact, that was one of the reasons I chose Kettering.

Also, LAKELAND COMMUNITY COLLAGE has an excellent Associate RN program!!!!!!!!!!! Huron Road School of Nursing is a good diploma RN program, and I just graduated from Kent State University. You should check them out!

Best of luck to you!!!!!!

Hi all,

If you are running into waiting lists for ADN/BSN programs go ahead and get your LPN. You can complete your degree online of at a traditional classrooom school.

If you were lookhg at Sinclair you must be in or around Dayton. I don't know what LPN programs they have up there but you could check out the Butler County LPN program. I've recently met a few of their soon to graduate nurses and they seem to have gotten a pretty good education. (I am a pediatric home care nurse and they were doing their rotations through home care.)

If your desire is to be a nurse, it doesn't matter if it's LPN, ADN, BSN. If your desire is to be pestigious, the you should seek out a BSN program. (No offense intended BSNers!)

Pestigious? Am I missing out on something that refers to a BSN?

a huge typo! prestigious, i missed the r.

seems to me you were looking to make that an insult of some kind. it was not. i was asking the original post to look into herself. does she want to be a bedside nurse or does she just want friends and family to know she is an rn, bsn. you have to admit, we've all worked with that kind. they don't last long, but they are out there.
