New Nurse Needs Shoes

Published

I am just starting my 12-hour shifts and I want to get good nursing shoes that will last me a while. Any suggestions? Thanks!

well I can tell you what not to buy...cherokee lite rockers...... If you dont mind the hideous squeeking...they are quite comfy....

If you have a moment I have a story:chuckle loved Dansko clogs made my feet feel fine. (OR Nurse here:balloons: ) any who went to 10 hour shifts with those babies and my feet began to hurt something bad. Purchased a $30.00 pair of N-balance Sneeks, feet feel fine again so in short shop around your feet will let you know when they need a break. Happy shoe hunting

I switch on and off between Dansko and New Balance.

I'm with the Dansko crowd.

I like Rockers....after you get used to the bottom. I buy the Achiever and they seem to look nice for a long time. :nurse:

I recently purchased a pair of New Balance sneakers. They are so hard and stiff, they really hurt my feet. I bought them cheap on eBay, so I can't return them.

Like HappyStudent said, those Rockers are comfy, but noisy. Hot, too. My $100. SAS Freetime shoes are super comfy, but they wear out fast, and look really crappy after only a few months.

I don't like the way Dansko shoes flop on and off, up and down the heel. The salesperson told me they are supposed to do that. Birkenstocks have no heel, so they are no good for someone with a shortened achilles (sp) tendon like me.

I hear Clarks are good, but they don't come in extra wide widths, which I need.

I have met a couple of people who swear by those funny looking Zcoil shoes. I have been meaning to take the time to go get fitted for a pair.

I've been a nurse for 12 years and am still looking for the perfect shoe!!

BTW, HappyStudent- are you going to try and change your name? How 'bout Happy NURSE? :)

they are totally worth the investment.

The best shoes that I have found in 10 + yrs of nursing are Nike walking shoes, and Birkenstocks. I have bad knees from too many years of playing softball and numerous knee surgeries. Ive tried New Balance, but found my knees to swell to 3 times their normal size after an 8 hr shift. Each person is different and like the other poster said, your feet and legs will let you know what is best for you.

I tried the EARTH shoes and they were terribly uncomfortable, what a waste of money, tight across the top of my foot etc. Nurse mate shoes are also terrible. I personally like my $20 some dollar Dr Scholl shoes froim Walmart, they don't make my feet hurt after my 12 hr shift.

Do yourself a favour and buy yourself a good pair of Aussie Blundstone boots Model 500. They will last for years!
