My program starts in a few weeks and we must wear all white leather shoes of any style ( including athletic).
I considered sketchers, and Dansko clogs, New Balance. I researched every possible option but somehow wound up buying a pair of all white leather Nike Shox, on a whim. I saw them displayed in the window of a shoe store in the mall, envisioned wearing them with my new school embroidered scrubs and before I knew it, I plopped $130 down for them. I hope they're comfy!
What is your first attempt at finding the perfect shoe going to be?
(if you're already in NS, tell us about your first pair, I bet you remember!
I have had a pair of Nurse Mates and they were really comfy. I worked a factory job and they were handed down to me. not the cutest but saved my feet!
In regard to the Timberland Pro's we have to have black shoes and they came highly recommended. Spending $100 may seem like a lot, but if you are going to be on your feet all the time they are SOOO worth it. The Timberlands have an anti fatigue insert that absorbs shock. I am doing a nurse shadowing thing next week so I will be able to check them out in the hospital!
I bought a pair of all white New Balance shoes to start with. They have always worked well in the past for being on my feet 12 + hours. We are not allowed shox, sketchers or crocs in my program and I can't quite afford the actual 'nursing' shoes right now.
I wonder why they outlawed those brands? I've heard of schools that say no holes, or no athletic style, or no backless but if they allow New Balance what's wrong with sketchers or Shox? Oh well, at least they allow new balance. I was leaning toward New Balance when I made my impulse buy : ) I wore my Shox tonight for about 2 hours while I walked a few miles (inside). So far, so good!
I was going to go with a pair of New Balance then I ran across a nursing student blog who recommended a brand called Dawgs. I checked out the site and did some research for the most part they seem to have great reviews & they are budget friendly! I'm going to order a pair and keep my fingers crossed, I don't have the finances to go through to many brands to find one that works.
I knew I was a shoe person but... ; ) I bought Nike Shox, then my husband convinced me to try on Danskos (he's a chef/restaurant manager and swears by them). I was reluctant about about them before for some reason but after trying them I couldn't resist. They felt wonderful! I guess I'll switch them out or maybe wear the Shox for my shorter lab days, we have to be in uniform. Then wear Danskos for clinicals.
It's good to get opinions but you can't really make a decision based on that. Everyone's feet are different. Many people mentioned Danskos. I think they're horrible. Just like standing on concrete. I also think any type of athletic shoe is horrid. I like Crocs Saffron. Leather upper but they have the Crocs Croslite sole.
The school I'm attending ordered our shoes along with our clinical uniforms. White, leather Keds. Though professional, they are HIDEOUS! I wish they would have let us go with another shoe.
OH MY! Do they not realize everyone's feet have different needs? My feet are killing me just thinking about wearing KEDS for an entire clinical shift!

Well, at least our scrub bottoms are blue..lol! If being an aide for 7 years has taught me anything, it would be white scrub pants = yellow and brown scrub pants in 2 hours:lol2:

We had to have white too. I had white Danskos and also a pair of White Nike Shox that sparkle. Trying to find them online to show a picture because they are really cute and I get compliments on them all the time, but I am not finding them. I bought them 1.5 years ago.
Now that I am working as a nurse and can wear whatever I want, I am going to buy these with my next check.

I am a shoe person. Except instead of heals, it's tennis shoes. I would own like 500 pairs of tennis shoes if I could. lol
Tennis shoes and boots are my weakness
