  1. I've been hearing more and more about this & I'm thinking about giving it a try once the semester starts. I hesitate only because after spending $1200 and some change on books it seems so wrong to cut them up, lol! I'm going to wait & see if I actually have to lug books to class, if so then I'll probably give it a shot! As has been said Kinko's will debind a book for you but if you want to save money all you need is a x-acto knife, a hard surface, a steady hand and you could probably cut it out yourself! Also, when I took my Psychology course the textbook was loose leaf so I invested in some sheet protectors to keep the pages from tearing out so easily.
  2. I agree with everyone else it depends on the location, I have never heard of any of the graduates around hear complain about it being hard to find a job as a matter of fact a lot of them have jobs offers pending on them graduating and passing the board exam. Around here the ADN programs have a good reputation & mostly 100% pass rates on the NCLEX year after year so that may have something do due with it. While some of the universities are just being diploma mills and passing students & when it comes down to the big test they are not passing so the 4 yrs are losing value, accrediation, etc some have even lost their nursing programs. Don't take what a lot of people say to heart and get discouraged, just get through school first!
  3. I finished all my pre-reqs & other required courses to graduate aside from Nur classes & I am so glad I did... less stress. This is my first semester & all my classes are in the afternoon, so far my Fall schedule is: Tuesday: ACA 111 - 4:00pm-4:45pm NUR 111 - (lecture) 5:00pm-7:00pm NUR 111 - (lab) 7:30pm-10:30pm Wednesday: NUR 111 - (lecture) 5:00pm-7:00pm NUR 111 - (lab) 7:30pm-10:30pm Friday: Clinicals -(for the first two weeks) 6:30am-1:30pm Saturday: Clinicals-(all semester) 6:30am-1:30pm Online Course: History 224 I'm just waiting to find out where my clinical site is going to be the school has contracts with hospitals/nursing homes in several counties so I hope I get assigned close to home to save gas & time!
  4. My school recently changed from all white scrubs AND a blue vest, lol, I was so happy! Now our brand is Cherokee, the bottoms are royal blue they even have a slight flare at the leg, the old uniform had elastic at the ankle! :barf02:As far as the tops go they are white with our schools name & nursing student embroidered on the left pocket area. Then we have white lab coats with the same embroidery and all white shoes!
  5. I was going to go with a pair of New Balance then I ran across a nursing student blog who recommended a brand called Dawgs. I checked out the site and did some research for the most part they seem to have great reviews & they are budget friendly! I'm going to order a pair and keep my fingers crossed, I don't have the finances to go through to many brands to find one that works.
  6. -when is your start date? august 16th! -what state are you in? nc program (lpn, adn, bsn)? adn (for now) what is the one piece of advice you are holding onto right now? "continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential." who is your greatest motivation to complete nursing school? #1 myself, then my parents second. i want a relatively secure job where i don't have to live paycheck to paycheck after growing up like that & watching my parents struggle to provide for us. although we (their children) never went without there were many things they gave up in order to do that. i also want to go into nursing because it's what i have always wanted to do. after switching majors multiple times i would always end up back at being a rn. especially with me wanting to do missionary trips, being a nurse and learning the skills will provide me with a way really help others.
  7. Hey, I'm not a senior/recent student but I was also accepted into the nursing program for fall 2011! Can't wait for our orientation on Tuesday, I have no idea what to expect. I don't I have an iPhone anymore but I was thinking about purchasing and 16gb iPod Touch for nursing apps if they are allowed, it would come in handy. The only thing I have ever heard about the program is that it's hard, which is a given! But I'm interested in finding out the particulars like our clinical sites, who are the instructors and even uniform colors... because I have never seen the nursing students on campus, lol! Congratulations & Good Luck!
