New NS, What's your first "nursing shoe" gonna be?

Published

My program starts in a few weeks and we must wear all white leather shoes of any style ( including athletic).

I considered sketchers, and Dansko clogs, New Balance. I researched every possible option but somehow wound up buying a pair of all white leather Nike Shox, on a whim. :o I saw them displayed in the window of a shoe store in the mall, envisioned wearing them with my new school embroidered scrubs and before I knew it, I plopped $130 down for them. I hope they're comfy!

What is your first attempt at finding the perfect shoe going to be?

(if you're already in NS, tell us about your first pair, I bet you remember! :nurse:

I'm about to graduate from LVN school but worked in retail for a year and a half before entering the program.

I needed white, ALL white shoes for both school and work.

I started working (8-10 hrs on my feet solid...got a 30 min lunch break mid way) and I bought a cheapei pair of danskins for 12.00 at walmart. I dang near cried everyday after work for the first 2 months. Not sure if it was I wasn't used to being on my feet like that or the shoes...but I think both played a part. I bought every kind of insoles imaginable...the gel dr scholls helped but it wasn't enough. For school...I was limited as I got a grant that included a certain amount to spend at a certain uniform store...I saw many different types, brands etc..but ALL white? Hard to come by. I ended up getting 2 pairs of KSWISS....LOVE THEM!! I can literally run all day and not even think about my feet. My second pair is in the closet w/ tags still on them..waiting til I start my first 'real' job to break them out. I am going to look into the timberland's....for future use though! Thanks for the advice.

FYI: I'll never ever try to save a buck and settle for painful poor fitting shoes again! Not worth the pain!!!!

My one complaint: they squeak in certain areas of the hospital..not sure why...suspect the wax/cleaner they use.

I'm still stuck on what I want my first shoe to be. I've been looking on Nurse Mates, they've got a lot of shoes that are cute/comfy looking to me and they have good ratings! I haven't quite decided if I want to go with a pair or not, I'm still on the fence, but I'm leaning towards a pair of the Angels.

I looked at those too. The Angels are cute!

I don't like the look of clogs or Crocs so I bought some New Balance 410 walking shoes. I'll have some time to break them in before I start school. Hope they work out.

Crocs Bistro in a all white. So comfy and feel good. best part the soles have non skid rubber soles so im not slip sliding across the pt rooms/ floors in mystery fluids haha

That's why I chose my crocs too!! Easily hose them down and wipe them off with alcohol wipes or bleach wipes.

I'm thinking about investing in the timberland shoes if the crocs nor sketchers work out

reebok easy tone, they are seriously soooo comfy! and if they end up toning my butt and legs too that is a plus! :lol2:

I bought Alegria Debra professional - I bought a pair of their sandals for the summer to see if I liked the shoe before I dropped the money on the professionals - they are soooo comfy!!! my back and foot pain is non existant when I wear them!

my first pair was a pair of merrells, because i wear merrell shoes in normal life and they really are comfy. they have specific arch support to align your body or something.. who knows, they work though.. i also have a pair of reebok easy tones, they are comfy as well, i like to alternate the two... im wondering about these timberlands though. i can never have enough shoes!

also, i hate crocs.

I have the hardest time finding well-fitting shoes:flat, wide feet, with very narrow heels, and a bunion on one foot! So to find a comfortable pair that was also ALL WHITE has been next to impossible for me. I finally got a pair of Skechers D'Lites. Aside from my heels sliding up and down some, they seem to be extremely comfortable and are very light weight. There is some silver on them though, so I hope they are acceptable.

I really like the New Balance Shoes. Got them at Kohls. I got some for my CNA class and wore them to work also. I got new ones for actual Nursing school. So comfy!

I bought a pair of all white New Balance shoes to start with. They have always worked well in the past for being on my feet 12 + hours. We are not allowed shox, sketchers or crocs in my program and I can't quite afford the actual 'nursing' shoes right now.

I love my sketchers shape ups!
