Wondering if anyone would be willing to share how much they are making as a New NP and how many hours that is for?

Currently in new york upstate area. Started off as a new graduate at 100K and after 3 years raised salary to 115k with only health insurance, $500 for CME and 15 days of vacation which includes sick time. We see 25 pt per day and take charting home where spend another 4 hrs in documentation without any pay for home xharting time. Private clinic.

I went to nursing school in Baltimore and when I graduated, in 2017, the going rate for new grad NPs in that area was 90-100k.  I would think it has gone up a bit, so 95k to 100k should be reasonable for a new grad.

Here are some ways to negotiate a bit, but please focus on getting the best first job with the best learning experience.

1.  If you get multiple offers, that does give you some negotiating power.  You can say "Acme Clinic offered me xyz.  I would really like to accept your offer, but would need abc, etc."

2.  Look for underserved areas where it is hard to get providers.  Clinics in these locations often pay more.  This would be rural and some inner city areas.  Don't forget a rural area may be within a 1 hour drive of a city.  Underserved areas have a higher HPSA score, so Google this and do some research.  Working in an area with a high HPSA score can make you eligible for loan repayment programs at the state and federal level.  Check with your state - do some research on Maryland underserved areas.  You can also look at HRSA Virtual Job Fairs, which happen every couple months.  They set up the jobs by state, so look at everything in Maryland.  

3.  For maximum opportunities, be willing to relocate for a couple of years.  A lot of people will work in an area within a few hours drive of "home," and come home on weekends, just renting a room or small apartment where they work during the week.  So look at WVA, VA, PA, DE, etc.

Yikes on the low PTO and charting 4 hours after work........that would be a no for me.

That is an excessive amount of extra time charting.  You are supposed to chart as you go.  I did have to spend about 2 hours a night or so after work finishing charting when I first started as an NP.  That gradually decreased as I became more efficient  Within one year, I was pretty much done with charting when the work day ended.  Typically, I would spend 15 to 30 minutes after work finishing charts, calling patients, etc.  I might spend more time on the weekend on complicated patients.

This sounds bad! I hope you at least like your coworkers and you feel like it’s a good learning environment.

Yes. My clinic participates in CPC plus and we have lot documentation to do which we cannot finish as we see pts. Our EHR is not that great either. It has lots of clicks which takes a lot of time.

$130k working ER/primary care, critical access. (Intermountain west-rural town)

$3,000 CME plus five days paid time off

85K, 2000 cme 1st year then 1000 after, 2 weeks paid pdo, 6 holidays paid, medical/dental, etc, paid malpractice. Paid for productivity above base. Wound center. 

1st NP job about 4 years ago $112K base, 4 weeks PTO, holidays paid, 5 days CME, $3000 CME, on-call was $150 week day and $300 weekend day, and malpractice/licensing/insurance.
