Wondering if anyone would be willing to share how much they are making as a New NP and how many hours that is for?

New grad FNP- Connecticut

Outpatient primary care

$90-100,000 per year salaried. 40 hours work week

No bonuses

26 days PTO

HMO/PPO plans

LTD, vision, dental, dependants covered, etc

401K

1500 CME

1 month onboarding

With 2 years of experience was offered $115k

Make sure your orientation time is written into your contract or some employers will try to backpedal and baptize you by fire.

One year experience 95K in northern VA, offered 85 and negotiated up. Standard benefits. First job was also northern VA but a little further west (45 mi west of DC) and was offered 95k w/no benefits. In La Mesa, Ca was offered 105 w/excellent benefits but have to work weekends, evenings and holidays- salary was non-negotiable. All jobs are full time primary care.

Are you a family NP? And can I ask if this is close to the Hampton roads / Va beach area? I want to be an FNP and I'm curious to know what they start at down here!

I know you said northern Virginia, but do you know any NP's in southern Virginia (like the Hampton Roads area, Chesapeake, Va Beach, etc.) and what their starting salaries were? Or know a rough estimate of how much they start of making down here? I live here and would like to be an FNP one day. I don't know any NP's in the area or I would ask.

Yes I am an FNP. I don't know anyone who works in Hampton/ VA beach area but my guess would be 90k starting. It's a cheap area to live compared to NOVa so that salary may not be bad giving cost of living? 95k is poor for the DC area because rent is around 2k for a 1 bed. A doc explained that the DC area pays low for some reason but I can't quiet remember - has something to do with an agreement with the hospitals or something I think (?)... I was working out in Aldie as a new grad for the same price, half the cost of living, when I accepted the job near DC i didn't get a pay increase but I needed to be closer to the city and to have health insurance. I should also mention as a new grad do not factor in bonus pay (incentive for seeing more pt in a day) because you won't be able to hit that until at least a year, you're slow as a new grad and that is completely ok. So if they tell you "oh if you see more than 15 pt a day we will give you $1000 more per month- don't even consider it as part of what you'll be paid- you won't quality for it for a while.

I def wouldn't accept less than 90k ANYwhere in the US! And ALWAYS ALWAYS try to negotiate- they offer lower because they expect you to!!

Thank you for responding! And yes cost of living down here is... ehhhh. Not super high but not super low so it's always hard to tell what starting salaries will be. I would expect NOVA salaries to be higher for sure. And that's pretty lame that NP's are low-balled in and around DC. It would suck living somewhere so expensive and not getting a salary worth anything, especially starting. And yes, if I do become an NP I would at least ask for 90k a year if not offered. I really wanted to start out at 100k but that sounds like wishful thinking!

I'm making 135K 3 years into practice and I'm outside of Boston in surgery. I also moonlight and and will soon start legal consulting pushing my pay to over 200K/year. I'd highly recommend NP but more so if you can specilaize. It can be very lucrative!

I take no call shifts (unless I want them), no weekends. Full benefits, 2K tuition/CME reimburement per year...

First year in family practice made base salary of $54 dollars per hour which if you do the math, is $112, 320 per year. However I only worked ~ 30 hour per week so I made base rate of ~$84,000 per year. With bonus, I made just over $90K. In second year, with a new employer and in different specialty, I doubled my income and now make ~ 180K per year...Knowing where to look and taking chances (i.e., leaving your comfort zone) will aford you greater opportunities and much higher salary early on. Come to Pittsburgh! (sarcasm). We are overrun with PAs and NPs. You can make $30-40 an hour for primary care and hospitalist jobs.

I was hoping to hear from NP's in CA! As a staff RN making $67 an hour I hope I don't take to hard a pay cut as an NP. I'm an operating room nurse so can go straight to working for a surgeon but still!

You are making more than most NPs in California starting out. Check out indeed.com You'll see the job listings. If you started in San Francisco you'd make more but the cost of living would kill you.

Yes you are making at least as much if not more then most NPs in California.

I'm a new grad NP, working in occupational medicine. My base salary is 140k (no calls no weekends) and because I am an onsite provider I can adjust the times I am at work e.g on Monday and Wednesday I work from 9am-6pm and the rest of the days I work from 7am -4pm.
