New Mexico Licensure Question

Published

Hi everyone. Does anyone know how one should go about applying for the State board in New Mexico? After the school sends the official transcript and after completing the fingerprinting requirements, how long will it take before one could be given an ATT? Thanks and have a nice day!

I'm purely relying on the NM BON evaluation merely because it's much cheaper than having it evluated by CGFNS through the CES.

Is your plan though to stay and work in NM as if going to another state you may find you need to do CES as regardless of having a US license you will always be classed as Internationally trained?

Hi! Will I received my eligibility for NCLEX(NM) earlier if my mailing address is in California and not in my hometown(philippines) or will it just be the same?

Makes no difference where the posting address is it all goes on how long it takes for your application to be processed

The length of time is based on where you attended school and not where you live or have an address now. The more applicants, and the time is longer.

Time is much faster in getting approval if one has the CES already done, then the NM BON does not need to do an independent credentials eval.

You either pay by fees for the CES, or the time needed for them to do their own credentials eval. But be aware, as Anna mentioned, if you are going to endorse to another state, most are going to require the CES for endorsement.

How much would it cost for the transfer of credentials by CES? How long would it take?

Information should be on the CGFNS website.

Are you saying that it is better to do it by CES then send it to NM? Thanks for the info silverdragon. The fees are posted in their website.

Your welcome.

CES can be used for many states and also maybe needed if looking at doing further study once in the US. CES ful course usually takes a few months but then NM can just check and sign off instead of doing their own eval

If a nurse already has the CES completed, then approval from NM is just weeks and not months; they do not have to do their own credentials eval.

If you expect to want to go on for further schooling in the US, you are going to need to have the CES for almost any university, as well as need it to endorse to most other states.

CGFNS does not transfer credentials, they only do an evaluation of what you have done. Their report can be forwarded to those that you wish to receive it, they need your written permission to send it on. You usually list two places on your initial application to them and then they charge you to send it out to more places.

Thanks for the valuable info, Suzanne. I'm thinking whether to have the evaluation by the CES or directly to NM. The only disadvantage is that CES costs more but will save time in the near future if I decide to transfer to another state or pursue studies. I'm still weighing the two between which one is better. What do you think?

So, you haven't done the CES yet?

Why not just apply directly to the State you want to work and live or pursue further studies and I'm sure you have no intentions to work in NM.

Also, it doesn't make sense (at least to me) to start the CES process from scratch now and have that submitted to NM when you can just send the TOR directly unless you are hedging that the CES will be faster than having your TOR sent directly to NM.

You can always have the CES done later on and who knows, the State you will eventually apply to does not even need the CES as well.

Just my opinion.

Thanks Lawrence! You are probably right on that matter. I'll probably go directly with NM. :specs:
