New jobs anywhere?

Published

So, graduating in December and thinking of moving pretty much anywhere to get a job, as there doesn't seem to be much hope on the horizon in Arizona. Does anyone know anywhere in the country that is actively recruiting new grads?

I've gotten a few calls from recruiters in upstate New York. Syracuse, specifically.

Good for you...I am looking for a job for six months now and none!

So have I, I'm a december 09 BSN grad. I didn't get a single offer for an interview until I started looking out of state. I'm still not sure I'd take a job out of state, because my family couldn't come with me, but I'm looking forward to finally going on an interview at least.

Texas is doing pretty good with continuously recruiting new grads!

There are numerous hospitals in the greater DC area hiring New Grads for their July and August programs.

Please list any hospitals hiring new grads other than Washington Hospital Center, as I have come up empty handed.

Where in Texas specifically if you don't mind me asking?

Sibley, Virginia Hospital Center, Holy Cross, Suburban, Prince William, George Washington, PG County have all either posted ads for new grads or have conducted interviews of new grads in the last 30 days.

I'm from Massachusetts and I accepted a job in upstate New York. I went on interviews in NY, VT, and DC and the only job offer was from NY. All the hospitals in VT were nervous about hiring me because they assumed I would move back to MA as soon as I got enough experience to get a job there.

Big cities have lots of opportunities but they also have lots of nursing programs in the area that supply them with nursing students. I had more luck with smaller hospitals in less urban areas.

The major cities: Austin (sort of hard to get into their New Grad/RN programs), Houston, and Dallas/Fort Worth (friends from nursing school easily got jobs in these areas).

Also, smaller cities like Temple (North of Austin) hire New Grads year round. I also have heard about cities in South Texas always hiring New Graduates!

The majority of new grad opportunities in Texas are in the more rural/less major city areas. DFW and Houston are both saturated with new grads and many of the hospitals will only take new grads via their internships, which are highly competitive to get into. There are many many local schools churning out new grads every six months. Not all of them are having an easy time finding jobs. Those who are mostly are able to due to networking during school. It would be a mistake to move to Austin, Houston, Dallas or San Antonio without a job already lined up.

There are areas, however, like Witchita Falls, Brownsville and other places not associated with a major city where it is rumored to be a bit easier.

The rumor of it being "easy" to find nursing work in Texas is pretty old at this point. There has been such an influx of people moving here for work based on that rumor in addition to tons of new graduates from very qualified schools and the same issues as other states with regards to the recession and nurses coming back to the workforce or not retiring that things are pretty difficult at this time in the major urban areas.
