New jobs anywhere?

So, graduating in December and thinking of moving pretty much anywhere to get a job, as there doesn't seem to be much hope on the horizon in Arizona. Does anyone know anywhere in the country that is actively recruiting new grads?

I heard promising things about Texas too. And nowhere else... maybe North Carolina?

I totally agree with RN2BDFW. It's extremely hard for new grads to get jobs in big cities here in TX unless they are already working in a hospital or have prior hospital experience. Many of the big hospitals in the DFW area will cut you regardless of your grades and accomplishments if you don't have any previous hospital work experience. A lot of my friends who just graduated this May still haven't found any jobs here and aren't receiving interviews or anything. That makes me scared since I graduate in December! eeek My advice is to get some kind hospital experience, whether it be as a PCT, transporter, meal hostess or what have you. Even volunteering at a hospital is a good thing that recruiters look for!

I guess in comparison to other places, Texas is a little better. I know it has been written in TIME magazine that Texas is still hanging on to a good economy, not great, but better than other places.

Although it is competitive to get jobs (new grad positions) in Texas, there are jobs to get. One hospital was hiring 12-14 people for the NICU. That's a big number, and they did this twice this year! I guess I was just trying to convey that hospitals in Texas continuously hire grads, may not be easy to get a spot, but they are jobs as oppose to some hospitals who go on hiring freezes.

So, yes. I do agree with all the posts about Texas not being the Holy Grail of Nursing Jobs, and it is definitely not a sure thing that moving to Texas would be the answer to getting a job out of college, but there's a little bit of hope here! :)

That's interesting. What hospital is/was hiring that many new people for the NICU? I'd love to know so I can apply! NICU is where I want to work. Were they hiring new grads or just RNs? Was t required to have experience in a critical care area?

There are usually several hundred new grads applying for the 12 to 14 positions. The competition for hospital jobs in the major metro areas of Texas is stiff. A new nurse who is moving to Texas from out of state would have better luck finding hospital employment in the smaller cities such as Midland, Odessa, Wichita Falls, Tyler, McAllen, Edinburg, etc.

Yea! It's a hospital called Scott & White in Temple, TX (North of Austin). They have a program just for New Graduates! No experience is required. They won't hire new grads in the NICU until January 2011 and then again in June 2011. Definitely try when the time comes! I went on an interview there, got the job, but then got another job somewhere else, so I went for that one. It seemed like a great hospital though, it was a hard choice!

I have felt your pain. I graduated in December, applied, and heard nothing. I had to try again for the June programs for new grads, and was jobless for about 5 months!

I did a search for RN new grad positions within 100 miles of where I live and saw all of them said "No New Grads at this time"

:(

The only ones accepting new grads were NP positions.
