If diseases like AIDS and bird flu scare you, wait until you hear what's next. Doctors are trying to find out what is causing a bizarre and mysterious infection that's surfaced in South Texas.
Morgellons disease is not yet known to kill, but if you were to get it, you might wish you were dead, as the symptoms are horrible.
"These people will have like beads of sweat but it's black, black and tarry," said Ginger Savely, a nurse practioner in Austin who treats a majority of these patients.............more at the link above.
Anyone heard of this? Sounds really bad.

Freak me out! It is disturbing if the CDC doesn't even have info about it. There is a webpage devoted to this illness and gaining more recognition. Here is the link from that sight that also lists publications from peer-reviewed journals regarding the illness. I'm definitaly going to have to read up on this!

I read the article and almost thought it was a joke, but here is a research foundation with some photos and more medical information too.

The CDC has info about Morgellons, but they've not recognized it as an actual disease entity as of yet. No causative organism has been found on testing.
One of the big problems is that Morgellons has, at times, been closely associated with people who are just not very believable. See the link below, which includes speculation that Morgellons is a Martian disease that arrived on our planet by way of meteorite.

The foundation website just isn't credible looking. I googled this so-called disease and let's just say I'm not impressed that it is a disease. So many non-specific symptoms. Chronic fatigue. Mental sx.
Something isn't right here.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge, one commonality was those people may have been infected with Lyme disease and that is one nasty little disease that can really wreck people and does fall in line with the joint problems, chronic fatigues, and you can't ignore the filaments, under the electron scanning microscope, no textile a psychologically impaired person could shove in their scabs would first off show flourescent and also be smooth under the microscope. I'd buy it, but would want to see more information about it.

The article points out one woman has been battling it for over 12years so its not necissarily new, maybe just not publisized. If you think about what has come down the "pike" over the last 20 years alone that has grabbed the public attention it stands to reason there are probly other diseases out there that just havent been discussed. Im sure over the next 10 years there will be more. With the global community we have now it shouldnt be a surprise that diseases will come to light that havent been seen here before. And we surely need more hormone and DNA synthesis for animals and crops dont we? Lets see what evolves out of some of that in 20 years. We may well be creating our own monsters. Havent we already done that with MRSA and VRE?

Black, black sweat? Sounds like Egar Alan Poe syndrome.

Something fishy about this whole thing. So many descriptions of lesions and yet no lab studies or photos? They have ONE picture....doesn't look like much of anything. The description of the disease in the letter written to the CDC doesn't sound like it was written by anyone involved in research. Something doesn't add up...but then, again I'm suspicious by nature.

Yeah, some how it reminds me of Mask of the Red Death, by Edgar Alan Poe.\
Remember the guy who shows up at the masquerade party, just to infect all the rich guest who had escaped to the country to avoid the bubonic plague?
Nasty lesions, lymph node yuckieness, and something about blood in the sweat...... And then there was the Pied Piper.....so many uplifting tales....
Folks have always been fascinated by the macabre: hope that is what this is,
Well, I went to the web site and thought it was a joke until I read this: "Cognitive difficulties, including measurable short term memory and attention deficit, as well as difficulty processing thoughts correctly. Described by patients as "brain fog". "
Sounds like my personal experience with menopause!
