New grads at Children's?

Published

Hi I was just wondering if anyone was going to start working at Children's soon? Or if anyone works there now, how do you like it?

I start in Feb. :D

Thank you for so much info EKnicuRN! Do you happen to remember how long it took for you to hear back after your interview? I know each unit is different...I just finally got an interview at Children's a few weeks ago, and it went great but it's a few days past when they told me I'd hear from them. I'm afraid that means I didn't get the job...I was just wondering if maybe sometimes hospitals are just a little late with that kind of thing...gosh I hope so.

Woah! thank you so much for the great info EKnicuRN! :)

Congratulations that you'll be off orientation soon! That's so cool ;p

I was actually offered the job during my interview but you're right, every unit and nurse manager is different & every situation is different, give them a call if you're worried

I too have not heard a word, so glad i'm not the only one. I was getting stressed out!

I'm going to keep all my options open. Initially I wasn't interested in community health nursing but considering the Job situation with new grads, I will do whatever it takes. I have classmates that work as PCTs at their hospitals and due to budget cuts they are not going to be able to work as an RN post grad. It's soooo bad out here.

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.
Do you apply anyway as a out-of-state grad? Even though on the job description it says must have licensure in "such and such" state? Do nurse managers just take into account that you will get licensure in that state after being hired?

A nurse manager will be thrilled to see you are an RN, period. And D.C. is what is considered a "walk through" state, it takes most people 1 day to get their nursing lisence here, compared to the weeks of waiting in other states.

Hey everyone, while I'm not a new grad, I did just start working as an experienced nurse at Children's National. So, far it seems like a really nice hospital, and the new tower is gorgous!

Hi everyone,

I just found out I was accepted into the new grad program in the NICU at Children's. I am sooooo excited!!!!:) I was wondering if anyone has gotten any news. I was also wondering if there is anyone going into the NICU in August. I would love to talk to you.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

jlharris1,

Did you get to interview with the facility?

Hi IGiveTheShots,

Yes, I interviewed last Friday. I took a tour of the unit with one of the preceptors, the interviewed with Tara (RN manager), then hung out with one of the staff RN's.

Congratulations!!!

How long after applying online did they take to make any progress on your application? Is leaving a message on that recruitment machine recommended? I'm wary of calling managers directly, I see how unpleased managers at the hospital I work at now are with coming in to a full voicemail of grads.
