New grads at Children's?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone was going to start working at Children's soon? Or if anyone works there now, how do you like it?

I start in Feb. :D

Hey everyone! I am about to start applying to Children's and was just wondering what the shifts are like. On the website, it lists all d/n 12 hr every other weekend. Is this the case, or is there some variation? Honestly, I don't mind, but am just wondering what hours I would possibly be working if I got hired. Once you gain some seniority, is every third weekend a possibility?

I have been applying for new grad positions all over DC with little luck but I finally got a call from Children's Hospital to schedule a preliminary screening interview via telephone on Monday next week. :D

I know at least 16 other applicants are going to be screened at this time for the purposes of narrowing down potential interview candidates.

I was wondering if anybody else on this site would know what I should or could expect as far as questions and or if anybody else is going to be called as well?

Im so nervous that I will be eliminated!! :idea: Any advice would be deeply appreciated :)

Can anyone comment on the current pay for new grads at Childrens? I wonder if the pay rate increases throughout the year-long internship (when you complete it you get a raise).

Pay starts at 26.50 +shift differentials, no pay raise after orientation unless you are working in an ICU then you get critical care pay as well

did you have your interview already? I just had mine, but it wasn't a 'preliminary' one as far as I know....i'm also from really far away. Anyways, how did it go? I heard they aren't making decisions for about 2-3 weeks....

hi-- i had an interview the other day... i wasn't told it was a preliminary one though...do you know of 16 personally that are being screening as well--or were you told that at some point.... Anyways, the staff i spoke with during the interview were not only really friendly, but incredibly informative and made me feel comfortable. Good luck and let's keep each other posted!

i know at least 4 other people will be interviewed on monday as well.

i was wondering where you interviewed? any tips?

critical care...be yourself, let your passion come through for emergency care of children....they didn't ask any difficult questions, just about why you are interested, etc... super nice! good luck and let me know how it goes!

Hey :)

I did have the interview, it was easy except it was a panel interview with 3 people asking me questions. I think this made me more nervous and I felt that I didn't say everything about myself that I wanted to -like I forgot to say how I had IV experience as tech and that I am fluent in Spanish. :eek:

Its been 2 weeks since the interview and I have not heard back from them, but Im praying and hoping that I will get the job. Yesturday I called them to follow up but the people I interviewed with were not there that day. I did have an offer somewhere else for a job :D but ER at children's is still my #1 choice. When I called yesterday, I did let them know this because I would need an answer before I turn down or take up this offer that I have now.

Any suggestions on how to follow up? Thanks for the advice u posted here prior to the interview :up:
