New grad-Looking for advise on recently made RESUME

There are quite a few structural/grammatical errors. Most obvious is that you have used past tense, and then present tense, and also future tense in your prior positions (workED, procESS, 'will be'). And lots of stating the obvious- you're an RN, they know you are applying for a registered nurse job. And stating that the providers were licensed? And, just now crafting the first resume of my life, I'm perusing HR websites for clues. That all say do not mention basic computer functions (Word, how to access the Internet, etc.)- because they assume if you know how to turn on a computer, you know those other basic daily functions. "Medical-Surgical" is not a proper noun. EKG's, why the apostrophe? And isn't that more currently known as ECG? Just my thoughts- methinks that is that resume was sent electronically, it might be discarded if it is scanned first through a spell check program. Aside from this stuff, you've had an interesting past.

It can actually be tough to see the obvious in something you've written yourself- your mind plays tricks. For clear examples of errors that you will notice right 'off the bat', go the jobs section at top, then go to the resume bank, and scan a couple of the introductory statements the posters have made to draw attention to their resumes. There are a lot a glaring errors, that I'm sure preclude a reader from bothering to access the resume itself. I like the one (state of CA, type LVN in the search box), all in caps. "...I HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE SPECIALLY IN GERIATRICS..." Aside from the language, how about turn DOWN the volume!???

I think it looks good but change process to processed. I think medical-surgical is used as a proper noun bc it is the name of a unit..i don't see too many grammatical errors.. Even though here is America it is technically ECG, the hospital I have my clinical rotation at uses EKG. They can be used interchangebly. You objective statement might be a tab bit too long... I would come up with a good cover letter and detailed reference page also...

The thing I noticed was for the anesthesia tech positon. You should seperate the last bullet point into more bullet points. ex.

Provide support for routine and complex surgical cases.

Responsible for maintenance of commonly used pharmacy medications.

Preparation of laryngoscope and intubation equipment, IV solutions, patient monitoring devices, bronchoscopes and other types of equipment used to provide anesthesia care.

I would chime in and add be sure to quantify your accomplishments in each of your previous positions to show the value you brought (e.g. Processed applications on average for physicians' health care plans in credentialing department). emphasis mine.

Also, move your credentials up above your work history so it'll stand out clearer. Add your RN license number there. Below it add a Skills Summary to list the buzzwords of what you know that's relevent and transferable to the job you want.

Replace the Objective Statement, as the employer already knows you're looking for a job, with a Profile Statement that can be in paragraph-style or bullets. Don’t restate anything that can be found somewhere else in your resume or cover letter. Instead, use this space as an opportunity to tell the organization the value you’ll bring if hired. The Profile Statement clearly and concisely conveys your qualifications, experience and education in terms of the company’s needs and values. It’s a great way to tell a hiring manager why you’re perfect for the position in 100-200 words or less.. And you can tailor it as an answer to the position's job description.

If you have a lot of value to give, have a one-sentence Profile Statement followed by a Professional Profile that expands the sentence into three or four bullet points of your value offer to the company.

You want to make the employer's job as easy as possible in the few seconds he/she got scaning your resume and decide if you're in the short list. So make it count.

I think you should 'beef' up your resume some to gain more attention. How about stating more about your education? Such as, where your clinical experiences were and possibly any rotations you did within them, that's something I was told to include in my resume .

I would change the wording on a few things. "Pharmacy medications" and "Fluid I&O" are the things that jump out at me. Also I would say "monitoring I&O" not "documenting".

The first bullet under the Anesthesia technician job also needs to be reworded.

Regarding your PCT job, did you only work with surgical patients? If not, take out the "post-operative" description of the patients. You've told us it was a Med-Surg floor, we know what kind of patients you care for in Med-Surg.

Under Education, change the formatting. There shouldn't be a blank line between your school and your degree but there should be a blank line between your Nursing Degree and the college you attended for your BA.

Computer skills- I dare say that "BLS and CPR" do not belong under that heading. Also, I think including basic computer skills on a resume is outdated. Every nurse applying for the same job as you knows how to use all of those programs, it doesn't add anything to your resume.

I'd also take away the objective. You're applying for a job, they know your objective is to get a job.
