Resume Advice. New RN. No work experience. Please Help!
I'm sure this becoming standard advice, but while looking volunteer at a free clinic or local hospital one or days a week. That way you can get some experience listed. Now about your resume: Your clinicals listing is really confusing. I'm assuming you're listing clinicals from both the Philippines and locally. So the clinical area are grouped with their hours, then the first bullet item would list the hospitals and clinics you performed the clinicals in. Let's see what someone else think of this idea. I also assume you acquired a degree or certification in the Philippines as well as stateside. So you should list that alongside your BSN degree. In the meantime, this is what turned up. Be sure to review and tailor to your knowledge, skills and abilities: Zero O. Critique My Cover Letter & Resume! Honesty Welcomed!
All-in-all, not bad. You might consider moving the "License and Certifications" to below your "Professional Profile" section and add a "Skill Highlights" section just below that to show off what you know. About 4-8 top skills that you accumulated from your clinicals and life. Also, consider your degree listing thus: Associate of Science: Some College - Nursing . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mth 20xx Anytown, ST . . . * Graduated with honors - College of Nursing . . . * GPA 3.94 Now about your cover letter: It kinda lacks what makes you qualified for the position. Take a gander at this: Dear Human Resources Professional, Please consider me a strong candidate for the Correctional Nurse position advertised in the [website] for [City], [state] at the [facility]. Upon reading this announcement, I wanted to provide you the enclosed resume and recommendations. As you will note from my resume, I hold a RN licensure. Described on each of the supporting documents, I have gained the essential skills from clinical experience and as a tutor providing quality instruction as I earned my degree and license. Thus it is with a comprehensive foundation knowledge that I now seek to interview for and, I hope, serve within the capacities of the Correctional Nurse. Summarizing all that appears on the attached resume, I offer: . . . * Strong assessment skills with the ability to prioritize care based on patient group using the nursing process. . . . * A Highly adaptable personality that transitions easily between different tasks while working individually and with a team. . . . * A demonstrated ability to assess and advocate for patient needs in developing and implementing nursing care plans and maintaining patient medical records. . . . * Efficient response to urgent and complex clinical situations with patients using strong communication and critical thinking skills. However, what my resume does not show is my passion for serving the underserved. My unfailing professionalism and strong ethical center allowed me to provide compassionate care to inmates admitted to my clinical site for advanced procedures, including offenders other students and staff declined to care for. By the same token, my alert and conscientious approach to nursing practice allowed me to always maintain a safe environment for the patient and staff while maintaining firm professional boundaries in interactions with the patient. Though my resume is detailed and comprehensive, it cannot fully demonstrate the manner in which I have achieved success. Character, personality, and the ability to work in a team environment can be demonstrated in a personal meeting. I would welcome an interview at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and consideration. I am certain that I would become a valuable addition to your staff. Thank you for your valued time, Some Person

Would love some critique on my resume.
Normally, one with less than five years in the profession would have to be one page. But I'd be hard-pressed to recommend it since even the additional work experience is professional-oriented. So I've structured this as two pages so to show how one is organized. And since you're going for two pages of related material, might as well include your clinicals as your professional experence isn't nursing yet. Nowdays, one doesn't include "references on demand" as it's assumed you're going to ask when to provide them during the interview, thus getting a guage where you're at for the final consideration phase. Also, be sure to turn your "job duties" into "accomplishments". So all it needs is a bit of tweeking: Miss Rosehips, RN 1234 North Blank Ave. • Blank, WS 91234 • (000) 123-4567 • [email protected] Customer-Service Oriented Registered Nurse A professional caregiver and patient advocate skilled in critical thinking, customer service, collaboration, communication, and competent evidence-based care. Listing Organizations
Normally it would be listed in an "Affiliations" section. In most cases, a simple inventory of your affiliations, presented in order of importance, will suffice. When your involvement included election to an office or other leadership position, mention the title either before or after the organization, but be consistant. If you held an office but are no longer in that office, preface the title with "past." It's not necessary to include the date when you joined each organization. If you need to save space, you can list the organizations in paragraph form with ";" seperating each organization. Examples are: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Society of Pediatric Nurses Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing Oncology Nursing Society National Association of School Nurses NSNA (National Student Nurses Association) active member, current National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners Officer in Association of Womens Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)

can you please critique my Case Manager cover letter?
It's a bit meandering. You should focus on how you qualify for the position. Look over the ad and see how your cover letter answers the ad, point by point. In the meantime, look this over and see what you think: Dear Human Resources Professional, I am pleased to learn of your need for an RN Case Manager, as my career goals and expertise are directly in line with this opportunity. My experience and education have provided me with excellent knowledge of HIV/AIDS treatment practices, acute patient care, family relations, staff development and other relevant skills of an effective team member. The following are highlights of my qualifications and accomplishments: . . . * Previous experience in working with HIV/AIDS patients. . . . * Strong understanding about the care delivery system insuring the correct resources are used in the most efficient manner while containing costs. . . . * Possess excellent people management skills along with strong communication skills which have immensely helped me in this line of work. . . . * Excellent organizational, documentation and assessment skills with the ability to multitask. . . . * Adherence to regulations, guidelines, and quality assurance on a unit. In my position, HIV/AIDS patients I've worked with are immensely vulnerable, yet spirited and strong. From them I learned more about compassion and strength than from any other type of patient and like to excel at the next level in the field. I became a nurse because of my need to help people and my desire to implement positive changes. Though, I enjoy bedside nursing, I know I will be able to make the greatest impact through the business side of nursing as a case manager because of my innate qualities. Thank you for your valued time,

Resume Help! Idle for a few years, career change etc. Pls critique my resume?
Alright, get ye back to a refresher course. Especially after being out of practice for more than three-four years. Check your BON if they offer or refer a refresher program. If you have the funding or arrange it, check around to find a college that offers both theory and clinical refresher package, similar to this: http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/wdce/hsi/nurserefresher.html Also scout your workforce centers to see if one caters to professionals. Most don't and the one that does may not be in your county, meaning their ability to help may be restricted to reviewing resumes and announce workshops that professionals would use to, say, apply for federal jobs. But check anyway and use that in conjunction with your local workforce center which may be more blue-collar. In the meantime, parents who have been out of the workforce for a number of years and have minimal alternative experience such as volunteer work may need a functional resume. Although functional resumes are not preferred by hiring managers, this format allows you to emphasize your skills while downplaying your employment history. Use your cover letter to briefly explain your recent gap, but emphasize that you have kept your skills up to date and are energized to return to the workforce. You can highlight the following activities on your resume: * Volunteer/Community Involvement (PTA, Charity Work, Fund-raisers): Just because you weren't paid doesn't make the experience any less valuable, so treat volunteer work like you would a paid position on your resume. If you held leadership roles or made a difference to your organizations, tout your accomplishments and the key skills developed. You can include volunteer work in your Work Experience section to cover the employment gap. * Continuing Education: Show that you've kept your skills refreshed through courses, online learning and/or independent study. * Freelance Projects: If you've done consulting/freelance work that's related to your job target, include project highlights in your Work Experience section. * Professional Development: Demonstrate your commitment to the field by including membership in professional organizations and participation in conferences. * Work-at-Home/Self-Employment: Even if you worked part-time for yourself or your partner, include the experience on your resume. And most importantly, plan how you'll describe your employment gap in your interviews, because you will be asked about it. Answer with pride and confidence (but not too much personal detail), and communicate to the employer that you're ready and enthusiastic about making the transition back into the workforce. And speaking of volunteer work, start looking into a free clinic position to ease you back into the saddle. One or two times a week while job-hunting should help while giving you a local reference and something to add to your resume. Once you get several months experience in, you can move the Community Service section above your Education & Training to show the recent experience. To be truthful, be prepared for a hard slug in this economy. In the meantime, look this over for ideas on your resume: Mary D. References/contact info from managers that have moved on
Just because the employer no longer exists now does not take away from the fact that it did exist in a certain location previously. In order to help the prospective employer check the information listed on the resume, you may wish to include any additional contact information you have for your former employer. For example, if you retain a functioning number for your supervisor, you may wish to include that number, with an addendum stating that the company is defunct, but that this person was your former boss. When you speak with your prospective employer, feel free to mention that your former employer no longer exists and ask whether there is any additional information you can provide to demonstrate that you held the position. This will not only allow the employer to resolve any questions he has, but it will make you appear forthright and honest. Good luck!

I'm assuming that the nursing program was part of the Associate degree you received in 2012. So you can show the number of credit hours you earned toward the program and list any special electives you learned that may interest an employer. Creating my first resume with no experience
Did you go through clinicals? If so, then you gotten some experience. Unless a hospital requires a certain number of months of experience, remember you did get clinical experience in school, so you should emphasize that in your applications. It may not be considered really adequate by some, but it does count as experience. Your resume should probably provide some detail about your clinical experience -- think about things that you did such as monitoring IVs, assessing patients, pre-operative preparations, patient education. Your passion for nursing should come through which will help your resume stand apart from the rest. The resume should show that you are an eager learner, and comment on your professional progression as you went through school -- gaining facts, experience, knowledge, and yes perhaps some wisdom along the way. Think about how you think about things now compared to back when you applied to nursing school. The best managers look for a combination of technical enthusiasm and the maturity to deal with the sometimes difficult tasks of working with patients, a diverse staff and exacting physicians. Hospitals want to know what types of clinical rotations you’ve been through, and where you did them. So listing clinical rotations will demonstrate your experience base. To make it even stronger: • Emphasize areas in which you have special interest. • Highlight elements that distinguish you from others doing similar rotations. Did you excel in particular aspects of your work? Examples include establishing rapport with patients, meticulous attention to detail in suturing, or responding well in crisis situations.

About to apply to SON Please look at my resume?
Well, this is different: usually everybody is trying to get out of school, this one is going into the fire. Good and congrats on your choice. As far as I know, the same resume rules used for applying for a job also applies to a school resume. The main thing is to show you have what it takes to complete the program and score a career. Attached those soft skills that you seem to have based on the positions you held. Be sure to review and tailor to your true skills, knowledge and abilities as some of this is a bit generic. Would love an honest critique...
The overall structure is not too bad. Individual issues are: 1. Consider turning your objective statement into a professional/branding statement, followed by a professional profile section to expand on. 2. Use one- to two- sentence bullet points on your clinical experience and work experience to make it simplier for the employer to read. An employer would have about seven seconds to scan a resume to decide which pile to put it in. So make it easy for yours to get a second read. 3. Consider listing the hours on your clinical experience rotations. It shows an attention to detail. Also consider turning your duty listings into accomplishments that'll offer value to the employer.
