North Shore LIJ ED/NICU/PICU Fellowship 2013
Hey rnmj, I know it's an ED/PICU/NICU fellowship, but is the ED portion pediatrics or both peds/adults? Thanks!

NSLIJ Cohen's Pediatric New Grad Fellowship
It's a three semester thing. First part is classroom, second part you have a preceptor and third part, you're on your own but have a preceptor reference pretty much. After the first six months ish, you have a lot of autonomy on your own so that's probably what your friend meant when they said it's a six month fellowship. The fellowships are all 1 year then you have to give 1 year back to the hospital for training you, so it's a two year commitment. I did find out that the Cohen's Talent Aquisition people don't want people who haven't taken their boards yet, because it's risky whether or not they'll pass in time for the fellowship to start, so I'm out of the running on this one. I am interviewing for the ED one at Manhassat on Tuesday though. Good luck to you!

PICU Advice
Hi all! I'm a new grad this may and ideally would like to be in a PICU setting. I've been offered an adult critical care fellowship (most likely CTICU) and haven't gotten a peds job yet, but it's very likely I can get a job on a general peds floor. So I'm wondering if I should do the fellowship then switch to peds or if I should start in peds and transfer to PICU down the line? I know I would learn a ton in the fellowship, I'm just not sure what to do. I love peds, but I also enjoy adults, help me decide!!

NYP New grad position
I haven't heard anything since that first email either. I got it on the 17th so tomorrow marks two weeks. Should I respond to the email or try calling later this week if I don't hear anything?

I keep getting different answers...HELP
I'm a CNA and in nursing school. It's really helpful for patient interaction skills and just seeing various procedures. You shouldn't feel weird about it because it will help your future career. I'm at a NYC hospital and make 16 an hour.

Columbia Presbyterian Parking
Yeah I'm there now as a student, no discounted rates, $35 a day. So annoying. Sometimes I can find street parking which is always nice but I also worry my car will get broken into all day ha

NYP New grad position
I haven't graduated/taken my boards yet. I finish next month. On the application it asks "do you graduate within the next 2 months" and "will you be eligible to take the boards within the next 2 months" or something along those lines. I know they have different groups of new grad postings periodically so I called HR before I applied and the woman said "if you graduate in may, apply for this position" so I did haha

I applied to the new grad position recently too and got the same email

Continuing Education on New Grad Resume/Question about New grad programs
Question on new grad resumes, I attended one continuing education conference for 6.5 contact hours and did a pressure ulcer online training for 1.5 contact hours, as a new grad, does it look stupid to put that as a subheading? Like "continuing education" then list those and what the content was? Another, maybe stupid, question: I have this essay/personal statement type thing on why I'm going into nursing. It's pretty well written and I feel it gives an accurate picture of who I am and how passionate I am about nursing. When I applied to my externship last year, there was an option to "attach any documents you feel necessary" or something like that, so I attached it and the recruiter said she loved it and I got the position. So, when I start applying to new grad programs/residencies, is it weird if I attach it? Is it unprofessional/weird? Haha any responses are greatly appreciated :)

Moving to Bay Area, maybe ... nervous about finding work!
My advice isn't useful cause I'm in a similar situation. I'm in NY and want to get a position in SF after I graduate in may. I wouldn't go unless I had a job lined up, moving across the country without a job or friends seems like too much at once haha but good luck in your search!

Moving to CA/new grad
Thanks for all the responses! I know it's extremely competitive in CA, especially SF. I actually already have a job lined up in NYC that I plan on taking if I don't get a new grad spot somewhere else. Since I already know it's tough out there, I was more concerned about the social aspect of moving across the country, knowing nobody and if people from previous new grad programs had any input. But I guess that's crossing the bridge too early considering the likelihood of me getting a position are slim to none haha

I wanna know about hiring from out of state too, like phone interviews and what not. We need someone to comment who applied last year/got the job!
