New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

can anyone in here can tell us what the 1 year conversion program looks or feels like?

any feed backs / comments on their 1 year conversion program?

is it more on on-campus or clinical?

Will the school process your paper for registration post conversion studies?

just tell me/us anything about how do you find your 1 year conversion program? was it easy, hard or 50%-50%..

Curtin uni has given me a letter of offer for 1 year conversion program and I'm also bound for ETEA sept intake.

I just wanted to ask how is the 1 year conversion going compared to 3 months BP for me considering nil experience.

TIA

Hi Aila. are you going to ETEA or IHNA? I've read from here that you both passed the interview from IHNA and ETEA so which BP provider are you going to choose?

hi erika! just got my letter of offer yesterday for ETEA Sept intake. so that's where I'm heading since IHNA told me that they no longer have intakes for this year.

Hello There!

I also just got my COE at ACFE. But I still need help. :(

Any idea about getting a personal medical insurance? I need it for the first day of school.

Any experience on what insurance companies offer the best coverage for the money?

Thanks!

hi it's me again..just for clarification, I just knew someone who was a fresh graduate in our school and they didn't take the local board exam in the philippines..They took this 2year program in order for them to be a nurse and right now they are already nurses in Australia..My question is:

-If AHPRA needs to us to be an RN with at least a couple of years of experience just to qualify for a BP or not,how come these guys in our school was able to nailed it?

I think because they studied Nursing again in australia. So they do not need to have work experience from the Philippines. BSN is 3 years in Australia. Maybe they applied for RPL (recognition to prior learning) since they studied BSN in the Philippines that's why the course took only 2 years. Or maybe they took Nursing (Graduate entry) which is only 2 years. I am not sure. I am open for corrections. :)

They had to do a Bachelor of Nursing in Australia and most likely were given credit for their Phillipines nursing degree as they did not qualify for bridging course as they were not RN's in their own country. and you are asking to be an RN in an 8 week course and comparing it to 2 years education in Australia, of course they did not have to have experience in their own country first when they probably got about 3 months experience in Australia during their 2 year course.

There is nothing to take a bridging course for as they were not RN's. Without a nurses registration you are a person with a nursing degree. In Australia it is illegal to call yourself a nurse if you are not Registered with AHPRA.

Nurses from the Phillipines, because of the over education of nurses for export, idea, often apply that graduated 3-4 years ago with no experience and still call themselves graduate nurses.

In Australia you cannot call yourself a graduate nurse after 1-2 years, experience or no experience. AHPRA only requires 3 months equivalent of 3 months every 5 years experience not 3 years.

for those who recently applied for a visa, did you submit your original passport?

maybe they did enroll in a university and apply for recognition of prior learning. RPL could make your 3 year study to a year in half or 2 year study of nursing.... but it will cost you more to study as a international student.

hope it helps
