Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

thank you for your concern but that sort of issue is the last thing on my mind right now. as far as i'm concerned, im still worried about meeting the school deadline on my visa. moreover im overwhelmed with leaving my significant others behind, my daily activities in a foreign land amidst winter... just to name a few. im just taking one day at a time... i'll cross the bridge when i get there... i think that worrying about too many things will just slow me down. so again thanks for bringing this subject to my attention but i prefer you leave me out of it. i pray everything will work out for all of us.
Hello fellow nurses! Just submitted my application today to CON. Before I did that, I emailed the manager of student services about the slots available. Surprisingly, she replied this:
"you can send your application and you will be placed on a waiting list and a position cannot be guaranteed for this year. you will be placed on the first available course and that might not be until next year."
Now, does this mean that I would have to wait until next year? That's crazy. What's the purpose of having the letter from AHPRA if by waiting for a slot it will expire? I don't see the point. I am very much worried now since my letter will expire May 21st 2013 while my IELTS will expire June 2013 as well. I can't go to a different school because we can only afford CON. What's your idea about this? And if you were in my shoes, what are you gonna do? This is terrible, really terrible.
Also, according to a forumer, it really takes TIME before they email you back for updates and stuff about your freakin' application. Whew.
Every day these bridging programs receive many applications from international nurses from Phillipines, India and other countries that require bridging program.
You are suggesting a place should be waiting for all that have AHPRA letters for a bridging program? and in the bridging school course everyone prefers?
I would hope they would not charge your credit card until they are sure they have a course open to you and can give a date. They are a reputable organisation. You may need to really consider the cost and begin applying to another program and soon.
Applicants are going to find the same problem in Australia as in New Zealand.
Hi marklouiemarco
Apparently, when you submit your application in CON with your bank details they will charge you already to assure for a slot which is early next year. They told me the same thing. But only to find out from my cousin's friends, they applied last February this year took their money and waited which is really unfair. They are stuck at the moment I think they got September intake.
why don't you write to anmac instead to have more views. you said...you lined for august intake (ihna) so this:does the accreditation extension covers only the period of the july intake (their whole 3 months july-august-september) or will it also cover those who enrolled in ihna before september 30 ends like august intake because you & we will finish our bridging course at november.
i wrote to both anmac & ahpra to inquire yesterday but didn't get any reply yet. anyway your post yesterday is ihna's answer to us.
i don't want to tell you what to choose cos off course i don't want to cause anyone any trouble cos these decision makings are unpredictable. but for myself, if anmac says the course is extended, it is extended. and i'm willing to decide base on what anmac will say about the accreditation cos they are the one in charge right now. ahpra will register us provided we enroll ourselves in accredited courses.
hi,
just wondering how did you go with your interview in ihna? i received an email today informing me for an interview tomorrow at 1:30-4:00, telling me to prepare especially for med-surg... now i am panicking such a short noticed... it's been ages since i worked as a nurse.

So when did you apply? What did they tell you exactly?
