Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

hi guys! i received an email from ahpra requiring me to send additional documents. parts of the email are the following statements:
a current nursing/midwifery professional reference from a senior nurse/midwife with a supervisory role in relation to your nursing/midwifery employment. the reference should be on official employer letterhead, dated and signed and contain the following information:
- dates of employment.
- attest to your safe and competent practice as a nurse/midwife
- state the level/grade of position.
- indicate whether your employment is/was full time or part time.
- state the duties and scope of the role.
- indicate the practice setting.
- state whether you work/ed in a supervised or unsupervised capacity.
- detail the experience gained in the role e.g clinical, education, research, management.
i would like to ask if some of you have an example of this reference letter please pm me because i really don't have any idea how to put all of those information in one letter!

regarding the professional reference from a senior nurse/midwife with a supervisory role in relation to your nursing/midwifery employment, are you choosing your supervisor to sign it? in my hospital, we also have our chief nursing officer and another clinical nursing director.. who do you think is more fit to give the reference? thank you ms. aila!

how many months does it take for a working visa in nz to be processed? is this more convenient than applying for a student visa which by the way is much cheaper? thanks
Based on LTU batches, and filos only---only about 2-5 didnt get a job. And it wasnt cz they couldnt find jobs. I know of about 2 who were sponsored but left their jobs cz they felt homesick ---very young nurses , fresh grads and couldnt handle the adjustments...plus they were rich kids back home.I dont know bout other schools though. The nurses become too busy to go back in the forums once thy are in oz cz they have too many things to do....In my part, ive never posted until after 2 yrs. cz there was just no time. Keep ur hopes up but always be ready for worst case scenario ---Eg. Dont expect u will find a job in 1-2 mos. although possible ,not all the time.
Dont give up on ur goals....They will all come to pass.
In fact, i still have 4 cousins to bring here and they are still about to take board exams. 2 have already registerd and found jobs here....

I inquired with IDP manila and they gave me different options with regards to studying/working in Australia. I graduated last year, April 2011. Took the December 2011 NLE. Results came out Feb 2012. Will be receiving my license on May 10, 2012. So I filtered everything out and I was left with two options: the conversion program or the IRON program. Of course i'm considering the IRON program since its shorter in duration and a whole lot cheaper compared to the conversion program. They gave me two schools to choose from: La Trobe or Deakin University. The thing is I recently just passed the December 2011 NLE so I really have no experience at all. I won't be receiving my license until after May 10, 2012. Given that, I really don't think I can start working unless I already have my license. Fortunately, according to IDP, LTU requires no experience from overseas nurses. Deakin does require working experience from overseas nurses. So, i'm left with LTU which is perfectly fine. My only problem is the AHPRA application. They now require 3 months of working experience. Which brings me to you kind sir/mam. You mentioned that you still have four cousins to bring there and are just about to take the board exams. I'm guessing they too are in the same situation as mine, having zero experience. My question is, how are you going to help them out? And i've read from your previous posts that you have accommodations in Bendigo? With regards to employment/sponsorship, i'm a bit fortunate because my mom knows someone from Sydney who works in an agency and is willing to help me land a job in NSW. She said there are a lot of openings in NSW. So once i'm done with the bridging course in LTU, i'd be moving out to Sydney to meet with my mom's friend.

yup that's true coz most of the nurses i know got jobs in NSW although not in the city but in the country but that's still good and almost 90% of them got jobs in aged care.... i also met a lot of young nurses who did not have experience coz they are accepted in LTU but they were from earlier batches. I think volunteer experience is ok. most of those without experience are hired in aged care facilities also.... to be honest it's really a game of luck as well coz i know one from ltu batch who did not have experience, who was not in the top of her class, who has had not very good feedback with placement but landed a job earlier than those with experience.....
for my cousins, because we are from the province, they are volunteering while processing their papers. from the most recent batch in LTU, there are still some who did not have experience...so im not sure what's the deal with AHPRA...maybe they had volunteer experience too.....

I'm actually working for my aunt as a school nurse. She owns a secondary school in Bicol and she asked me if I wanted to work for her while waiting for my license to be released. I started working for her after I applied for registration last February when the results came out. Would that be considered "experience" even though I still don't have my license? hi sephine! in our hospital, it is my charge nurse who is considered to be my immediate superior who has a supervisory capacity. i am planning to have her as the signatory for my reference letter.
I will be taking the BP this MAy 28th. Will be leaving PI this 22nd.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Knowing that you still don't have your registration after 2 months made me scared because I also submitted my requirements to WA. hahaha. Still, I won't give up. :)
hi guys! for those of you who submitted a reference letter to AHPRA, is it necessary for the letter to have the official seal of the hospital? or the letterhead which has the name of the hospital enough?
i would like to ask regarding show money.my friend just opened an acct. is that fine? or does the applicant need a long standing account. also is it ok if the proof of funds come from supportings acct like an aunt or friend?hence theyd just give affidavit of support and bank statement?
how much should the person have for the show money?
before i paid my tuition fee, i put all my funds in the bank and asked for a bank statement after letting the money stay there for about a week. i presented that bank statement along with a letter of support from my cousin in melbourne stating that he will financially support me throughout the course. i have also included his australian passport together with my application. my bank statement at that time is at 803k. hope this helps.. :)
