Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Thanks :) so the embassy just sends you an email that your visa has been approved or something?
They will only send you an e-mail if they require additional requirements.
Regarding the visa itself, you'll received a text from them that your passport/documents are for delivery already. They won't be mentioning "visa" itself. You can always ask the clinic where you had your medicals if they already posted your results to the embassy :)
MarcopolFinally somebody has posted another possibility after their bridging program.
The fact is you will never find anyone posting in this thread to say 'I finished my BP, did not get a job, had to go back home'Even those who were in this thread a while back before they started their BP have no more posts to say they landed their dream job. There are a few who posted that they secured sponsorship and work - joiemike is the only one I remember and he has experience. There was this other guy who was boasting that there are lots of jobs but already has permanent residency before even starting his BP, not really a reliable source of information.Getting registered as a nurse in Australia is only the first step. You'll need an employer to sponsor you. If you can't get that sponsorship you will have to go home. I hope that there will be more posts from those who have finished their BP and had sponsorships and now working in Australia- and not just joiemike
It's been a while since my last post in this forum. I was part of CoN's january intake, finished the course 2 months after. It took around 2 weeks for my bp provider to send my documents to AHPRA WA and up until now I'm still waiting for my registration to come through. My other classmates who applied in AHPRA Queensland got their registration 4 days after their documents were sent to their office. Most of my other classmates who applied in other AHPRA sites already got their registration, it's only me and the rest who applied in AHPRA WA who are still waiting for our registration. Itz been taking them a while now since according to them they have received influx of applications from all over the world. Regarding employment/sponsorship, it's really not a walk in the park in trying to find one these days. A lot of competitors not only onshore but also offshore. There are so many jobs available if you already have a valid visa. However, for those needing sponsorship, it would really be an advantage if you have experience in special areas like Mental health, ICU, ER and most especially Operating theater! My other classmates have to exit then come back again and continue with their job search. I for my part went to exit in Auckland because it's cheaper and more efficient for me. I had my clinical placement with an aged care facility and ,with the blessings of GOd, I now have an employer who is willing to sponsor me even though I'm still waiting for my registration to come through. Bottom line, never stop looking for opportunities and when you find it, grab it at once. Always make sure that in all you do, you must ask the Almighty to bless and give you what your heart desires. God bless everyone! :)
hi everyone!I just want to confirm something. After completing the bridging course, does AHPRA ask for additonal fees to complete your registration? if there is, may i know how much? Any other fees required to be paid after the course?
thanks everyone!
If you applied with AHPRA WA they will ask you to pay the registration fee of 160aud apart from the 300+ something you already paid when you had your papers assessed by them for eligibility. Other AHPRA offices will ask you a one time payment of 400+ something during eligibility assessment and won't ask for any other payments after that, for you to be registered. Hope this helps.. :)
hello chilbrat,
i would like to ask regarding show money.my friend just opened an acct. is that fine? or does the applicant need a long standing account. also is it ok if the proof of funds come from supportings acct like an aunt or friend?hence theyd just give affidavit of support and bank statement?
how much should the person have for the show money?

hi chilbrat! its so nice to hear from you again. I've read your post in the thread and if its not too much to ask, can you give me the name of the hospital that was willing to sponsor you even while waiting for your registration? and also, how many years of experience do you have and what area? thank you! :) btw you can just pm me your reply, can't send you a msg since your inbox is full :)
hi everyone after sending my application in Victoria last march 28, I've received an email stating:
"Your application for registration has now been assessed.
Please find attached the requirements letter. "
the letter states:
Re: Application for General Registration – Registered Nurse
Thank you for your application. In order to progress your application for registration, it is necessary for you to meet the outstanding requirements as listed below:
Proof of identity
It is noted that you are currently residing overseas; therefore upon arrival in Australia you must meet the overseas identity requirements. Please refer to page 3 of the identity requirements guidelines.Transcript and/or curriculum of the nursing program/course
-this part is confusing me, are they not gonna proceed my assessment unless I go there and show them my passport and visa, since its that's whats stated on the page 3. CONFUSED- what do they really mean?
The transcript must include the following:
1) Applicant’s full name
2) Length of course (including commencement and completion dates)
3) Theoretical components listed in hours
4) Clinical Components listed in hours
-this one I know I have to get again on my school but I hope this info would be useful for others in submitting their TOR
Prescribed fee/s
You are required to pay an application fee of AU$160.00, registration fee of AU$160.00 and an overseas assessment fee of AU$220.00. Please be advised we have not received full payment with your submitted application and as such require the additional amount of $90.
Your application will not be assessed until payment is made in full (Australian Dollars ONLY).
-this I dont understand, how I ended having having a balance of 90$ left and why they didnt took it in the first place. I've used my debit card acct from london, and it has enough money on it.
I've just been wondering, for everyone who are planning to take this bp course or took it already. How do you plan in paying the course fees (it is a huge amount is it not?) when you're really not well off or have that money? Any ideas how others have opted in getting the finances for our dream? :)
*Go Go APHRA VIC - hope you process the apps as quick as possible*
