New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

the last time i heard about AHPRA-Vic is that they were also flooded with so many applications that it took them more than 5 months for the assessment that's why applicants opted for WA then since it took shorter time of waiting for their LOE. I hope someone can verify with this.

I also have a friend who submitted her docs to VIC last Dec. and got her LOE some time in January. I think this is a case to case basis since she had a work experience in the US as an RN already and applicants with experience in first world countries are prioritized. This is just my observation though. Have you asked noelle_18 if he/she had previous work experience other then the Phils.?

Hi.

I don't think there's really a priority for those with experience in "first world" countries. I have US work experience and still I waited 7 months for the approval (AHPRA-ACT). From what they told me, they process the applications by the date it was received. The only difference, I guess, is that they're waiving the BP for those with US, UK, Canada, NZ, Ireland (other else) experience.

Hi 3739!

Yes, you can apply to other states. By the way,

when did you submit your documents to Ahpra Victoria? thanks

Yes. Submitted them to AHPRA Victoria last week of January, then resubmitted rectified papers on Feb 28.

I'm ringing Philippine representative of schools. Any idea?

'applicants with experience in first world countries are prioritized. this is just my observation though. '

you will find applicants from 'first world' ? countries such as the uk, canada, ireland, scotland, usa already have an employer that is sponsoring them from australia.

their school curriculums are probably easier to compare to australian as well. subjects well defined into adult paeds, med surg and practise done in each semester, so that assessors do not have to spend alot of time comparing curriculums and practise to the australian. also they have to check the schools out, with so many chools in those 'other countries' they have to make sure that the education facility is of university standard to provide the nursing education.

ahpra are doing the best they can with the enormous amount of applications! from many countries. please give them peace to do their jobs.

remember it takes this long, even longer, to be assessed in every other country as well. just because someone has a nursing degree in one country and they hear there are jobs in another does not mean that country should lie down, clap hands and let everyone who claims to be a nurse, registration in the shortest time possible according to the international nurse.

please be aware, there are many new graduates both en and rn universities who finish at the end of each year. local applicants are also given priority, so over october, november, december, january ahpra also have to deal with local registrations.

I filled out an online inquiry form at Ahpra's website, I asked both Ahpra Vic and Ahpra SA if its advisable to have our application transferred even if we are "for final approval" already by Ahpra WA, i cant wait for their reply, I'm so anxious. I'm seriously thinking of transferring. I asked them if my application will be assessed all over again and does it have to be posted by Ahpra WA.

Ahpra Victoria's speed is crazy fast. Maybe we should have thought of transferring a long time ago?

I just called AHPRA SA to ask regarding transferring of application from WA to them. She first checked the status of my application and then she asked why would I do such thing. She sort of told me that it is not advisable to transfer my application since its for final approval already. I wasn't contented with her answer so I called AHPRA WA. A guy told me that even though I transfer my docs there's no assurance that I would get the letter faster. He also told me that AHPRA SA would go back to step 1 and would not carry on whatever WA did to my application. This is so frustrating. :(

Thanks for those vital information! I'll also post the replies of both ahpra vic and SA to my email.

I know!!! I am also so tempted to transfer! But to transfer when we're already on final approval? Would they start our application all over again? And if they will, will they give us the LOE after 1-2 months or will the length of time increase again??? So confused and so tempted!

hi g3stalt,

got another email from my new co just this afternoon, its a second "your application has now been escalated for final approval."

last thursday she told me that my application is still in assessment. now i'm beginning to think that maybe they are doing an initial assessment first, then a second more thorough assessment.

gosh, i do hope we could begin to see the light under this tunnel....
