New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

errr do you have to have it validated already? i didnt think that was the case... from what I understand it is upon your arrival in NSW that you will be checked for your criminal record and immunisations through the school... just go over the NSW health website, ill check on it later too :)

hi! how did you know that the checking of our criminal record and immunisation is still upon our arrival in nsw? can you give me a link or reference? thanks!

Guys, again I must remind you not to post names or initials of contacts. We do not allow this please use ***

Thank you miks103! I can't believe the information I'm looking for was on the page that I used to frequent before hehe silly me! :lol2:

"On enrolment day participants are required to provide evidence of protection according to the following table. Acceptable evidence of protection includes a written record of vaccination signed by the provider and in some cases serological confirmation of protection.

Participants are required to carry the adult vaccination record card showing evidence of protection with them when on clinical placement."

CON did not ask for our immunisation records when we paid the course fee. Did you include yours when you mailed to con your payment? I didn't include mine. So I guess we'll just have to present them during our first day at con or when we're doing our clinical duties?

I'm dreaming about the bridging program :bby:

I got a direct flight MNL-SYD flight via PAL on the 24th. :D any chance you guys are going to be on the same flight?

I think I'll start with my immunizations tomorrow - since there's a 1 month interval needed for one of the repeat shots.

just curious, is it your first time here in Oz? hav you been in other countries? just curious..

You're welcome. Nope I wasn't asked for the immunisation thingy... but I asked xxxx if I should include my NBI clearance since I saw it in the application form (requirement #5 i think), and she told me that If I have one available then I can send it also... since I had extra copies of the clearance so I just sent one. But don't worry, I'm sure it wasn't a major requirement for the application :)

Hey, you guys! I have been silently following this very useful thread for almost a year now. Thanks for all the information you posted here. I just would like to ask a question. In AGOS-04 page 6, it states that "In accordance with the Recency of practice registration standard, practice is not restricted to the provision of direct clinical care. It also includes working in a DIRECT NONCLINICAL relationship with clients..."[/i][/i] I am a registered nurse and an ICD-10 coder as well. My responsibility as coder is basically about helping patients process their health insurance claims. I wonder if a job as ICD-10 coder will be credited in "recency of practice"? I sent a message to the AHPRA website, but they haven't replied yet. I was wondering if anyone knows about this. Thank you!:)

Hi zonroxRN, glad you are not silent anymore LoL, welcome here :)

Just my personal opinion. If it was me, I would include that :) I believe it as a direct nonclinical relationship with clients/patients. I would consider that as being a Patient/Client Advocate (remember roles of the nurse?). As nurses we become successful patient advocates not only due to our clinical knowledge but also our knowledge of how the health system works. Insurance Assistance is actually a way of providing advocacy services, but it really depends on the scope of your work as not limited to only 'processing health insurance claims' but you know like helping patients choose the best insurance plan, negotiating denial of claims, the paperwork and insurance filings, et. al. because Health Insurance can indeed be very confusing :uhoh3:

Erm in short, if you believe it as a nurse's job then just feel free to include it in your curriculum vitae and recency of practice, if AHPRA doesn't accept it I also don't think you lost anything because you included it :) But definitely... yeah definitely that job is health-related.

Again just my honest opinion :lol2:

Are you guys getting a round trip ticket? or just one way?

Sorry if my reply is late. Anyway, I booked a one way trip but the way I understand it, it depends on the restriction given by the Australian embassy on the visa (mine is 456, multiple entry). I think ceridwyn commented about certain visa restrictions a couple of pages back in this thread. Try contacting VIA or the Australian Embassy Call Center. They answer questions regarding the visa at no cost.

@zonroxRN

I do believe an ICD-10 Coder falls under the field of Nursing Informatics. I'm with miks103 about it. It wouldn't really hurt if you try :) I was a DOH- HOMIS administrator and I met an ICD-10 coder once in a seminar. She was a nurse too so just give it a go.

But even on a multiple entry you would still need to exit the country right? for 456 after 3 months per entry...

i enterred australia twice with my 456. first time i had a roundtrip ticket. was never asked for the ticket. so the second time i bought a one way trip. wasnt asked to show it either. just have your credit card ready so you can purchase one if questioned.

Just found this post of javRN @ https://allnurses.com/international-nursing/new-grad-filipino-501897-page102.html

Sounds like a good idea also... since the ticket is so expensive :)
