New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

is it cheaper to take a vacation in new zealand? hehe :lol2:

Hmm haven't really checked the fares for that :coollook:. btw, it seems like taking those budget airlines (tiger, jetstar, etc.) are more or less the same cost with taking the direct flight of PAL, I did make a comparison table for that purpose but Oh let me also check AirPhil and Cebu Pac, I think they sometimes have promo fares for Spore... PAL is a good consideration just that it would be boring and tiring to take a straight long trip, hassle free though 'coz you won't have to drag your luggage from one airline/terminal to another + the PAL ticket since its not a promo fare can be refunded if you don't use the return ticket and booking will be easier 'coz only one airline. :)

After the CoN program, wouldn't you like to hang around doing online applications while awaiting your registration? Didn't you say you have relatives in Australia too? I think you can convert your visa to tourist OR if you were granted the multilple entry you can temporarily exit. But if you said you don't have the luxury to stay in Oz, then atleast exhaust the 3 months that you are allowed to stay for job hunting and return to PH to continue from there. Ok.. Ok.. don't worry first too much about that huh... you got mikyong, macpao and me :)

if we'll ride the qantas airlines, maybe it's cheaper (half the price) to exit to nz (aud600 or php27k) than back to phil (45k). it's like we are forced to take a vacation and enjoy nz! :rotfl:

miks, mikyong and ceridwyn - i'm glad to know i'll have filipino classmates already this coming april - atleast it won't be as lonely as being the only pinoy there or not knowing anyone there at all.

my letter from CON just arrived today via airmail - it took 8 days for it to get here. I had my first set of shots this morning as well so that gives me a month more for the second shots.

want to apply for the visa tomorrow, i'm just not sure of the health insurance requirement though - on the application check list for a 456, it says that people 75 and older are required to get insurance, would you know if it is required for people our age as well? i am 23.

thanks guys! :D

Congratulations mac :yeah::yeah::yeah:

I don't know about the health insurance... but if you are going to apply tomorrow then even if you won't show a health insurance evidence you would still have time to provide one should the embassy ask you to :)

Let us know once you get your visa so we have an idea of the time-frame ok? Goodluck! ;)

It's not a requirement but you are encouraged to have it. We (as in Filipinos) are not covered by Medicare so getting private insurance is pretty much up to you. Medicare is for OZ and NZ citizens, permanent residents, and citizens of countries with a reciprocity agreement with the Commonwealth. Note that this is very different from the mandatory PII as outlined in the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law.
