Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
Thank you so much cioman for all the information. CON in Berwood now costs similar even cheaper compared to certain schools in VIC, so I think I'm leaning towards them more now.My Predicament:
CON, Burwoon, NSW - April 27, 2011 - 10,000
VCHN, Heidelberg, VIC - Mar 29, 2011 - 11,000
La Trobe, Bendigo, VIC - May 2011 - 10,000
Any input regarding living in NSW vs VIC?
So since HPH which is my first choice because it is the cheapest option is starting its next intake in Oct 2011, would you think it would be wise for me to choose one of the 3 options above? Or should I just wait for the HPH to contact me?
I know ultimately that it is up to me, but hearing advise and comments from more seasoned and experienced nurses like the ones in this forum is really appreciated.
Thanks everyone!
factors to your decision making:
1) who are you macpao, do you have excellent credentials / resume as an RN? if you do, then go ahead and gamble by waiting for HPH to call you, it would be a good gamble on your part (if you have good credentials).. i assume you have read my post about HPH..
2) tuition fees change, i hope the fees above will not change until you started doing you BP.. nobody knows, may be in July the fees in CON will be 12,000..
3) in any of those 3 BP schools (plus 1, HPH), can you guarantee me that anyone of them that you will choose will accept you? if you can guarantee that, then good on you..
4) labor competition, if finish my BP soon, then i start searching job before the next BP participants finished theirs.. if you finish your BP in December 2011, it means there are BP graduates who started searching job before you do..
5) if you are really a lucky person, this is the ideal thing that should happen to you: you will be accepted in HPH in October, so in the meantime you will gain experience now as volunteer/trainee/employee while waiting for october, which means it will improve further your credentials.. then after BP you will be accepted by HPH or its affiliate hospital because HPH is owned by Ramsay which has many hospitals all over australia... if this ideal events will happen to you, then you can be a pastor.
6) come on mac, you could not even decide yet which BP schools to choose, and now you bother yourself which is which, "living" in NSW or VIC...
okey... your call indeed.. good luck.. cheers!
I thought intake is 25 April? http://www.nursing.edu.au/pdf/CON_2011_RTO_Handbook_Web.pdfi read it's 25apr too...
i read it's 25apr too...
Probably moved to 27. According to my sister-in-law its a long holiday (22-26 April) because of Easter. Will check with CoN but first thing first, Enrollment, Medicals, Visa! Called Immigration they said 3-5 working days for 456 excluding pick-up/delivery time.
Oh and ceridwenRN, just a piece of advise. If you intend to go for the April intake you should try to be more positive and believe in yourself (by this time). Establish linkages & networks in Australia with former friends, classmates, teachers, with relatives, facebook, twitter (lol) while waiting for the BP, you may need all the help you can get once u reach Oz. I know you are anxious, we all are, I worry too about leaving my kids behind and having to make sacrifices, but if April is your choice already then a positive mindset will really help... and lots and lots of prayers :) To settle in Oz is not like a bed of roses, you need hardwork, perseverance and lots of luck and prayers.
Well, goodluck to all of us here! I waited 9 months to get my eligibility and finally its here, so you all who applied to AHPRA keep the faith going :)

hello miks103! i hope i, you, mikyong, macpao, liaa and everyone else can make it to the april intake at con! thank you very (big) for your advice. i'm preparing myself by reading self-help books on success, dreams and the scientific nature of good luck. i already informed my relatives and classmates of my oz trip this apr. thank you to everyone for letting me confide to you my anxieties. :tku:*wine
PS please to all overseas nurses, do not call yourself an Aus or Australian RN until you are an Australian citizen, then you are an Australian RN until that time you are an RN that is registered in Australia, for example in this forum you would be a Filipino nurse registered in Australia or a Registered Nurse in Australia, never an Australian RN until you are Australian. I know there is very little in the way of rights between citizens and permanent residents, visa holders....except for this one little thing, calling yourself an Australian!!!
Same as you cannot be a US RN until you are an US citizen, Canadian RN until a Canadian, nor a UK RN until you are a citizen of that country. You can be a Registered nurse in those countries however.. A Registered nurse in Australia from the Phillipines, A REgistered Nurse in, say, California from the Phillipines, you can be a Fillipino nurse registered in Australia and the US and the UK, Nursing registration does not give you citizen rights. If I was given the right to Register in the Phillipines, would that give me the right to be a Filipino RN?......over and out.

ceridwenRN and others too...
we have nursing experience (volunteer, training, employed) and which employers will validate by checking our certificates and by calling the hospitals that we have worked with or have our duty with... for those who have no nursing experience, then of course they do not have nursing experience, simple as that... i hope everyone could read between the lines on what i am talking about here.. please be careful not to cross the boundary so to speak, for the sake of others who are still processing their papers including their nursing experience certificates...
cheers!
