New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

@liaa

Actually, CON is still in the list of accredited programs. The link is here:

If you called just a few days ago then CoN might have already been clarified on the issue that all referral letters from AHPRA should be acceptable in any State or Study Provider. If you talked to Ms. Irene then be at ease because she is really the one in-charge of the Program. I think liaa, mikyong and some others enquired with CoN and AHPRA way before you did that is why this issue has come to their attention and was resolved?

I might be going for the April Intake in CoN instead of Sept., family advised me so. But if I won't be ready by end of March then will take the July intake :)

Hey miks! If you are pursuing CON this April, then we may be classmates! I'm going to start my visa processing and other requirements maybe next week. That should still be enough time as classes won't start til end of April.

Do you guys have plans on where you are going to live?

Two or 3 weeks ago, mikyong and I had a problem with applying to CON since our AHPRA letters came from victoria. Back then, we had the assumption that because all the boards were unified, we can do the bp in any school accredited by the NMBA. CON however, kept asking for a referral letter from AHPRA NSW. Just now, ******* of the College of Nursing in Burwood confirmed that they would be accepting letters even from AHPRA VIC. The issue was settled in a February 11 meeting. So yes macpao87, CON now accepts AHPRA letter from whichever state :)

Thanks a lot for confirming liaa. :D Will you be going to CON as well this April 2011?

i wish CON could have settled things earlier :)

i would have wanted to, i planned to... but because things were not clear at that time, i ended up confirming enrolment elsewhere. Oh well, maybe CON is not for me. Goodluck to you though :)

I'm scared my 456 might not get approved on time... family just discussed it last night that I should try the April intake already. How long does a 456 visa get approved? got any idea?

I will still need to travel to Manila or Cebu to do my medicals and lodge my visa application. I still haven't gone through my immunizations, dunno if I can complete by April. Funds for tuition is ready, but for pocket money eeekkk I still don't know where to steal! :p

I'm staying with my sister-in-law in NSW, she's a Permanent Resident there. Her place takes 1 bus ride to CoN.

ooops, sorry didn't realize i wasn't supposed to name the person who clarified the issue. thanks silverdragon for correcting my mistake :)

Yes. The next intake will be April 27 according to their website. :D

I thought intake is 25 April? http://www.nursing.edu.au/pdf/CON_2011_RTO_Handbook_Web.pdf

Hi guys, would anyone know if I already need to buy a 2-way airline ticket on a 456 visa? Will the immigration check whether I have a return ticket? Thanks in advance :)
