Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Do you think we could haggle for a lower price? haha!
There are cheaper accommodation around the vicinity of VCHN. I was also enticed initially with their 135$ a week offer of hostels that are just adjacent to the school, but then they offered a package which just I felt was just overpriced, considering their tuition is arleady $11,000.
Thanks bro! Looks like we can be classmates then.I am just wondering why the BP in CON is only for 8 weeks... As compared to the ones in VIC which are normally for 12 weeks. Do you guys know why? Will your license be limited if you have a shorter BP?
Thanks!
i'm wondering too. the everyday expenses would be cheaper in con. i hope the bp is really hands on with patients and not with dummies. i don't know about a limited license but logically, the earlier we finish, the earlier we get our nursing registration
i became RN before AHPRA.. got my license in Northern Territory.. no BP, me just sitting pretty in my home in the philippines, sent documents required, one week later, received acknowledgment email from them, then one week later, saw my name in the "register of RN".. 2 weeks later, received my original copy of my registration paper... please do not ask further question because it still useless because that happened before AHPRA.. consider me a lucky person because i consider myself a lucky person as far as getting my RN license in Oz.. for that same reason, i do not complain much about my job now.. im satisfied..Ive been a member of this thread since somewhere page 30 of the part 1 of this thread, so thats 3 years if im correct in counting.. and no one here ever enrolled in Burwood because it was very expensive as compared to QLD, VIC, WA, NT... anyone who enrolled in Burwood then, was either crazy, mis-informed, or just angry of money ("galit sa pera").. no other reasons except for the cost..
cheers!
bring back nmb-nt! how much was the tuition fee in con and the schools in vic 3 years ago?
we do not have senior first aid certificate in the phils. (as far as i know).. the closest we got is the "first aid training certificate" conducted/given my PNRC.. but i noticed once in a while that there are private institution/organization which had been offiering 1st aid training (besides PNRC)... if you have AHA BLS ACLS certificate plus PNRC 1st Aid Certificate then that should be more than enough to meet the requirement..
hello cioman94! so it's a must to renew my prc, ivt, bls, acls, first aid, etc? what's AHA?
will oz hospitals and nursing homes bother themselves with expensive overseas calls just to validate a statement of service or certificate of employment? i asked the hospital where i worked with if they got a call from ahpra. they didn't get any. why? if they don't validate then the required experience is just a giveaway. or do they have other methods?
so, it appears that although the boards have merged, there are still issues peculiar to one. the ahpra letter from victoria states and i quote, "a current list of approved bridging programs for overseas nurses can be found on the nmba website, www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au" and the last time i checked, the college of nursing in burwood, nsw is in the list. so that really confuses me. and, when i called ahpra they told me that the letter should be accepted in CON, when i told her that CON requests a recommendation letter, the lady was surprised as i was. i guess then, i would have to keep calling ahpra nsw so i get that "recommendation" thing. thanks miks :)
Funny, I noticed that most of the people who applied to CON during this time were required a recommendation letter from AHPRA VIC. I tried applying a few days ago and I specifically asked whether a recommendation letter was needed from AHPRA VIC. They told me that the letter AHPRA sent me is valid in all states that offer the BP.
I case AHPRA and CON finally had a resolution to the problem beforehand. I am not sure about this though, but they said my letter was sufficient.

I don't think they can go down further. You should go for the home share option. There are lots of places around the area. When you have a possible site, find it in google map. The site will show the distance between your place and the vchn campus. That way, you will save money. According to my niece there, the prices range from $100 to $150 per week.

If you called just a few days ago then CoN might have already been clarified on the issue that all referral letters from AHPRA should be acceptable in any State or Study Provider. If you talked to Ms. Irene then be at ease because she is really the one in-charge of the Program. I think liaa, mikyong and some others enquired with CoN and AHPRA way before you did that is why this issue has come to their attention and was resolved?
I might be going for the April Intake in CoN instead of Sept., family advised me so. But if I won't be ready by end of March then will take the July intake :)

Thank you so much cioman for all the information. CON in Berwood now costs similar even cheaper compared to certain schools in VIC, so I think I'm leaning towards them more now.
My Predicament:
CON, Burwoon, NSW - April 27, 2011 - 10,000
VCHN, Heidelberg, VIC - Mar 29, 2011 - 11,000
La Trobe, Bendigo, VIC - May 2011 - 10,000
Any input regarding living in NSW vs VIC?
So since HPH which is my first choice because it is the cheapest option is starting its next intake in Oct 2011, would you think it would be wise for me to choose one of the 3 options above? Or should I just wait for the HPH to contact me?
I know ultimately that it is up to me, but hearing advise and comments from more seasoned and experienced nurses like the ones in this forum is really appreciated.
Thanks everyone!
