New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

awww.. although you have good points pointed out there, just think about all the hard work you've been through just to get to where you are right now. i understand all the hesitations, there's really a lot at stake, especially all the savings, but if you come to think about it, if you won't go, what will you do next? if you work as a nurse here, you can hardly pay your bills, as we all know salaries of nurses here are at minimum. but if you are doing good here, like you have a good business that you can save, then that's a different story. gosh, the road is really uncertain.. and that's good that you're thinking of having a plan b! as for me.. i'm at the stage of being excited (like you were previously) lol! i really want to go to Australia!

i don't have a future in phil too lol! tell me when you get past the "i'm excited about my oz dream" stage. will you help me think of plan b in case bp backfires? :smokin:

Agreed, every country has clamped down on all emmigration of foreign nurses. Most nurses are now turning to Australia and New Zealand due to retrogression in the US the UK has stopped work permits for foreign nurses and Canada has limits on how many skilled migrant nurses they will take.

Australia just like the rest of the world does not have the opportunities as previous for new graduates or at times experienced nurses..(though being at the right place at the right time or being 'in the know' will get you a job)..and as I have said before, is training many of their own nurses, this is not a sin, giving them preference. Nurses from many many many many countries come here to work. If you are not registered in Australia and applying for jobs then you will not get one.

Personally I would go the Hollywood Hospital way over in WA and spend the saved money on living exp. if no relatives there,.....most likely a nursing position in one of the hospitals when you are finished and it costs a third of the price..and would apply asap, looks like many are interested. Though if going elswhere I would say take it, while the door (opportunity) is open.

hehehe i'm still dreaming! my dreaming might take a while since i haven't even taken my ielts yet! i agree with ceridwyn, why not take the bp in hph, so that ifever things won't work out well (knock on wood 3x) at least you only paid a third of the price compared to the other schools, right? hehehe that is not yet plan b though! still thinking about plan b!

my situation lets me do the bp in only in nsw area. i can only go to a bp school that's not in nsw iff there's no bp school in nsw. actually, there are many plans b to z that can't be discussed in this professional forum. i got the idea from the first few pages of this thread..:crying2:

i don't know anyone from this forum who took his/her bp at hph but it is good choice if your looking for a cheap alternative. good thing that you asked, hph has open their program this year, . if i remember it correctly in 2009 the bp at hph costs 1.1 or 1.3 k aus $ (not sure but it is less than 1.5k =) ), the other cheap alternative is the program offered by doh wa but i also heard the getting in their program is competitive, the latter requires 2 years acute care hospital experience. :)

yes hph is a cheaper than any bp schools i have researched so far. however, hph has a very limited number of students per intake and the selection of students will be from a lot of countries, so competition is pretty tight. i would have enrolled there had i been accepted. but this is not to discourage you from applying there, just telling you the realities. i would consider you so lucky if you will be accepted. good luck!

Hi liaa,

I still can't give your PM. Haven't been activated. Lacking number of posts.

Thanks cioman. I am still positive I can get the eligibility from AHPRA. As to when is the question... Anyway, it's fortunate enough that based on vchn's website, their March intake still has slots. May 9 intake is still wide open. I don't mind taking the May 9 intake.

It's my niece by the way we are referring to here.

And why do you not consider yourself as fortunate as my niece when you already are fully employed yourself? Are you not happy with your present employer? Just wondering....

Who has taken the BP in Hollywood Private Hospital? yes, there was one, a female, 2 years ago, discussions are in Part 1 of this thread (this is part 2)..

And how to find accomodation? sorry..

I am wondering if all of these are worth it and would be able to find job. i have answered this question many times..

I hope someone would answer me. Thank you!

Bellaire had posted a comment regarding HPH, which is an accurate description.. In addition to her/his comment,

HPH may hire the participant, and this is part of the reasons why they are very choosy in accepting applicants, and they tool only have a few slots per BP because they are not a Uni but a hospital..

please help me find good and valid reasons to back out from the bridging program. thank you.

to you and to all who have doubts....

for the sake of being selfish about this things, i will be glad if all of you will back out because it means less competition on my part and on my sister whom i will help later to become a RN in Australia..

and so in many instances, i have given my opinion/encourage everybody on why you should pursue becoming RN here in Australia.. but if anyone of you or if many of you will back out, the reality is, it will have a very positive effect on me and my sister, because it means fewer competitors in the job market..

so come think of it really, i should discourage all of you instead to come here for my own and my sister's benefit... perhaps i will try the other way, that is, i will no longer give encouraging words, but i will just continue give information and help as much as i can.. at least, at the end of the day, it will be your choice or your own conscience which will decide and not because i encourage you to do so..

cheers! good luck!

Dear Cioman, over the past 6 months or so, you have made me laugh and smile, quite a few times....this statement is so honest. No other words I could use. This is what I feel when I hear an overseas nurse with not much experience has been given a job over a local. Especially now the jobs are all being filled quickly and just having an RN registration is now not carte blanche of having a job anywhere you want. Though it is one world and everyone should be welcomed, human nature to look after ones own first, happens in all countries, Australia seems to be more welcoming than most though to all people than others now these days.

My sister is a new graduate and cannot find work in a hospital anywhere in the city, I know this is being fussy, but she wants and should have this experience as an RN before trying aged care.... has good clinical reports, thats where she wants to work, though her registration is not through yet and she finished uni in early November......sound the same as all Filipino nurses does it not? (second class?)

Keep up the good work and the way you are at being politically correct (with jokes) at all times, hope they are not working you too hard, suppose you did not get a lot of orientation, they never usually do, especially in aged care, they watch their money very tightly....C

Have a good one today!

human nature, the more you have, the more you want..

That's absolutely true cioman. We always want what we don't have.

As for me, I wan't to go to Australia to be RN. I'm getting tired of volunteering in the hospital for more than a year without getting paid. I'm tired of hand-outs from my parents and my wife. I'm just fortunate that there are loved ones who have been supporting me in this Ozzie dream.

I sure would like to pay it forward. Have a few batchmates I am encouraging to follow in my footsteps. But sad to say, they really can't afford it without benefactors willing to help.

Does anyone know of any person or agency who is in the business of lending to people who want to become Aus RN?

Come to think of it... It might be a good venture when I'm there earning Aus dollars. That way, you get to earn more from your savings while at the same time helping others... just thinking out loud.
