New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

You just take the package # 1 for accommodations.

package 1? where did you find that? sent them an email and was informed the 20-week package was all they have. weird. thanks :)

I have sent an email to Saji also. Since there are 5 packages being offered, I presumed you can opt to choose which package you can pick. The $7,000 total is too expensive for me. I am looking at other options like homestay. There is this one house I saw but it's about 2 kms away from VCHN. I wonder if we can walk that far to and from the campus. If not, I will try to find another option.

Saji didnt mention anything about the 5 packages when I asked her, she said there's only that 7K-package. I know it's super expensive and it's 20 weeks, and 456 would only allow us to stay for 12 weeks so we do not really need that accommodation. Is is possible for you to send me the 5 packages? Two kms I think is fine, the UP acad oval is 2.2 kms if I am not mistaken and you can do that in 20mins (brisk walking, that is) :)

Just to echo the sentiments of ceridwyn and cioman, right now it is extremely tough to land a nursing job. It really isn't for the faint-hearted. As the months and years go by, the more it becomes tougher and tougher. Do not compare the experiences of others in the past to today's situation. This is not to dissuade you guys from pursuing your dream but this is reality. You are going against a stiff competition of more experienced locals and other more experienced overseas nurses. Be prepared to job hunt for a minimum of 3 months. Think also about the daily expenses that you will incur during this period. Follow your dreams but plan wisely.

I have received a brochure from them. How can I send it you? I saw two homeshares near the campus. The other one is a lot nearer. About 1km. Better if you have someone that can check the place for you and pay for it if you like. Gumtree doesn't guarantee payments over the internet.

to you and to all who have doubts....

for the sake of being selfish about this things, i will be glad if all of you will back out because it means less competition on my part and on my sister whom i will help later to become a RN in Australia..

and so in many instances, i have given my opinion/encourage everybody on why you should pursue becoming RN here in Australia.. but if anyone of you or if many of you will back out, the reality is, it will have a very positive effect on me and my sister, because it means fewer competitors in the job market..

so come think of it really, i should discourage all of you instead to come here for my own and my sister's benefit... perhaps i will try the other way, that is, i will no longer give encouraging words, but i will just continue give information and help as much as i can.. at least, at the end of the day, it will be your choice or your own conscience which will decide and not because i encourage you to do so..

cheers! good luck!

If you are going to do a masters in the hope of getting a job......depends do the research all universities tell you the requirements, if you are doing a master in the hope of being a specialised then usually you must be registered because you must be working in that area.....if you are doing a masters to be nurse practitioner....then you also must be employed in your area of expertise and also have referrals from your employer to support your nurse practitioner canditure.

If you are going to do a Masters in Nursing.....generic......many overseas nursing go this way overseas because no practical component.....this still may not get you a job, because you have no hospital experience the potiential employer will go 'what the heck, specialised in nothing (because you cannot do prac if not registered) and cannot be manager (no nursing experience)...........even tafe and university lecturers here usually have substantial nursing experience (how do you teach if you have never done?).......masters as a research masters.......usually univ lecturers do this.....needs nursing experience.

No way can anybody stop you doing a masters and studying here as a student......but even university lecturers have been cut back and all health facilities look at nursing experience, and post grad speciality......just doing a generic masters gives you none of these and will cost an arm and a leg. But you never know, but weighing it all up....spend less money.....get a job eventually....spend a lot more money......may get a job eventually.

Do the bridging program and see.....no point spending more money......

May I suggest getting nurses into politics (is it a democracy?) and stopping all the nursing schools in the phillipines from oversupply and setting a decent wage, this will be plan fghijklmnopqrstu :lol2: Go through the university sites and see.....aged care speciality may not need a prac, not sure..and would most likely get a job with a masters in nursing to do management.

rule out masters. i just can't do the bp without having plan b-z. it's like going to school without doing homework.

plan your masters then, you do not have to pay fees until it starts and the usually start march and june you can apply now and be accepted....live dangerously...have plan A in action and plans to be bcde in if needed.

I have heard IT/accountancy is needed, do that degree first then you will have 2 degrees to chose career from.

You did nursing and invested a lot of money into that education in the Phillipines KNOWING, you had a snowflakes chance in hell (more chance of getting a job in Australia) of getting a job in the Phillipines...but you still pursued that! Why is this different?

because i love caring for the elderly. this bp is such a gamble!

STill do not understand when there are sooooo.....many nurses getting their BSn over there, without much hope of getting a job and you are worried about the employment scene here.!!!....you do not need to do volunteer work here to keep nurse patient ratios up...they actually pay you...there is no way (from what I have read and been told) there is no way that getting a job in Australia with no experience is ANYTHING like what goes on in the Phillipines. full-stop. Just read 500,000 Filipino nurses out of work....phew what is that governmment thinking?
