New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

"Since she was considered a new graduate, the company sponsored her 2 week training all expenses paid. Since she is based in Melbourne and the training is in Sydney, the company flew her there and billeted her in a nice hotel and gave her $80/day as meal and transpo allowance. At the end of the first week, the company flew her back to melbourne and flew her back again to Sydney for the 2nd week of training."

Your niece is indeed extremely lucky, usually if interstate company wants orientation to the company, it is by internet or by video conferencing!

Actually sent my application March. Got a conditional denial by May because I forgot to include my course syllabus. Sent the lacking docs the following month. Got my eligibility to NZ July 9.

Actually NZNC processes applications with complete docs in about a month. But they have a lot more requirements than AHPRA, so many applicants get denied.

yep, so my opinion remains correct, documentary requirements in NZ is really really tedious, even to the last minute, literally, even in the last step of getting your registration paper you will be surprised with the requirment they want from you, literally yes in the last step..

Hi guys!

What educational institution do you know that offers the least expensive tuition?

Thanks! :D

if it is @ $8,000 then somebody will share the answer, if it is $5,000 somebody will just keep quiet.. hehehe, you know what i mean..

You're absolutely right cioman. I think they still keep on accepting applicants without considering there is already a glut of overseas nurses there. They don't care as long as we pay the fees!!! Hahahaha -- Big business!!! :lol2:

Which begs the question if NZ have more requirements, has anybody applied since the AHPRA only rules came into play with applications to AHPRA (not another application sent back from a previous board) after September 12 and had an assessment back, yet?

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading the posts here and am very thankful to those who really shared information. I would like to ask for anyone's opinion on my case.

I have sent my application to AHPRA Dec 6, 2010. A week later, I also sent my PRC verification of good standing and my IELTS results.

I got an email confirmation from AHPRA Jan 13, 2011 that they have received my application. It also said they will just email me for any further documentary requirements. If none, they will grant me my eligibility.

I received my credit card bill that I used to pay for the application fee but as of Jan. 24, 2011, the fee was still not posted.

While I submitted my application to AHPRA, I also inquired from different BP schools regarding their intakes and requirements for enrollment.

I was surprised that VCHN responded positively and asked that I email them the documentary requirements. I told them that I still am waiting for my eligibility letter from AHPRA.

To make the long story short, VCHN accepted me to their IRON / BP program for March 28, 2011 even without my AHPRA letter.

My questions are the following :

1. Should I accept their offer and pay the tuition fee immediately even without the AHPRA letter?

2. Will the DAIC accept my visa 456 application only with a confirmed enrollment with VCHN and not having the AHPRA letter?

3. Or should I wait for the AHPRA letter since I think I still have enough time before March 28 intake begins?

4. What if I still won't get my AHPRA letter by early March? (The next intake at VCHN is May 6 I think)

I hope someone can share their opinion about my dilemma.

One other thing I would like to share with those who don't have work experience at all is this :

My niece was able to enroll in a BP program last Sept. She got her license 2nd week of January. She was able to get a good employer who was willing to sponsor her working visa (The company paid for all the filing fees).

Since she was considered a new graduate, the company sponsored her 2 week training all expenses paid. Since she is based in Melbourne and the training is in Sydney, the company flew her there and billeted her in a nice hotel and gave her $80/day as meal and transpo allowance. At the end of the first week, the company flew her back to melbourne and flew her back again to Sydney for the 2nd week of training. She will start her employment in the nursing home near Melbourne this Feb. 21.

To all those who are trying to catch their Ozzie dream, don't be scared. My niece is just 22 years old turning 23 later this week. She didn't even have any work or volunteer experience. Yet she is now going to get employed in Oz.

As for me, I hope somebody can advice me on my case.

I hope the story of my niece will encourage the others who might be hesitant in trying.

God bless to all of us!!

thanks for the story very inspiring even to me who is already working here...

many times you just have just have to be "lucky" than be "great".. you're sister is not "great" so to speak because she doesnt have experience yet but "lucky" indeed in job much luckier than me.. i am not a "great" nurse but im a lucky bloke becoz i didnt undergo BP (thus, no expense) but im not lucky enough as compared to your sister's job.. we cannot have everything, but we can be lucky at a crucial moment when we need it..

as to your questions,

1) i assume that vhcn knows that you still do not have your eligibility letter.. i assume they will still accept you in the bp class even without your eligibility letter yet.. so these are my assumptions in your case..

2) there is a gray area in ahpra's policy (as you know ahpra is still new, and changes/revisions on policies will be made as necessary).. it seems, using my coconut brain, that you can still go thru BP even if you do not have the eligibility letter yet as long as the school accepts you (based on the assumption in no. 1 as based on your communication with vhcn)..

3) considering no. 2, you can therefore go on BP even without yet the eligibility letter, and when you finished your BP, wait for the eligibility letter, then upon receiving your eligibility letter, immediately submit your BP credentials to ahpra, then ahpra will take note of it and hence will process your registration.. no worries..

4) yes worries?.. the risk of doing this is that, what if for whatever reasons AHPRA will not grant you eligibility, then the BP you finished and spent for will go down the drain..

5) my opinion, DIAC will grant you 456 visa based on the offer of place or letter from vhcn that you are accepted/enrolled.. that's all diac needs..

6) thatz the picture, it boils down to your decision, and luck, and hopefully you'll be as lucky as your sista..

cheers mate!

i have another question.. more or less, how much is the average wage per hour or a registered nurse division 1 in australia? let's say no experience yet, how much is the salary of a nurse in a hospital and nurse in a nursing home? just curious since the bp course is too expensive. how long, and how many months of work as a nurse will we be able to get our investments back? i mean is it really worth it? and will our investments really pay off?

1st task - getting ahpra eligibility - headache

2nd task - getting into a bp school - headache

3rd task - getting job - headache

1st leisure - spending and saving your salary/money.. yes, it is a leisure to recover your investment, it is not a task that you have to give yourself a headache..

using my savings, i can pay NSW BP tuition fee in less than 6 months work.. im only in my 3rd month now, and i can pay 50% of said tuition with what i have.. im categorized as zero experience as far as salary bracket is concern.. do the math.. it's obvious..

cheers!

i am not a "great" nurse but im a lucky bloke becoz i didnt undergo BP (thus, no expense)

tell us your secret cioman! hehe i've read on previous posts that you spent only P10,000 for your Australian registration.. hush hush we won't tell

Thanks cioman. I am still positive I can get the eligibility from AHPRA. As to when is the question... Anyway, it's fortunate enough that based on vchn's website, their March intake still has slots. May 9 intake is still wide open. I don't mind taking the May 9 intake.

It's my niece by the way we are referring to here.

And why do you not consider yourself as fortunate as my niece when you already are fully employed yourself? Are you not happy with your present employer? Just wondering....

Thank you! Yep, am still in the Phil. Sent my re-application October (got caught with the transition) here in the Phil. Now scouting for BP schools..just like Kye09, AHPRA mentioned in their letter about opening BP in Queensland early this year.."early" I suppose would be 1st quarter of the year, they did not clarify on this.

@Kye09, sorry I wasn't able to reply to your pm a long time ago, don't know how..:o[/quote

no worries doydoy! i forgot i sent u a pm too.. hehe.. anyway, i hope they will offer the bp in qld as soon as possible. Let's keep in touch. Who knows we might end up in the same group/class;)
