Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
Hi Everyone,I've been reading the posts here and am very thankful to those who really shared information. I would like to ask for anyone's opinion on my case.
I have sent my application to AHPRA Dec 6, 2010. A week later, I also sent my PRC verification of good standing and my IELTS results.
I got an email confirmation from AHPRA Jan 13, 2011 that they have received my application. It also said they will just email me for any further documentary requirements. If none, they will grant me my eligibility.
I received my credit card bill that I used to pay for the application fee but as of Jan. 24, 2011, the fee was still not posted.
While I submitted my application to AHPRA, I also inquired from different BP schools regarding their intakes and requirements for enrollment.
I was surprised that VCHN responded positively and asked that I email them the documentary requirements. I told them that I still am waiting for my eligibility letter from AHPRA.
To make the long story short, VCHN accepted me to their IRON / BP program for March 28, 2011 even without my AHPRA letter.
My questions are the following :
1. Should I accept their offer and pay the tuition fee immediately even without the AHPRA letter?
2. Will the DAIC accept my visa 456 application only with a confirmed enrollment with VCHN and not having the AHPRA letter?
3. Or should I wait for the AHPRA letter since I think I still have enough time before March 28 intake begins?
4. What if I still won't get my AHPRA letter by early March? (The next intake at VCHN is May 6 I think)
I hope someone can share their opinion about my dilemma.
One other thing I would like to share with those who don't have work experience at all is this :
My niece was able to enroll in a BP program last Sept. She got her license 2nd week of January. She was able to get a good employer who was willing to sponsor her working visa (The company paid for all the filing fees).
Since she was considered a new graduate, the company sponsored her 2 week training all expenses paid. Since she is based in Melbourne and the training is in Sydney, the company flew her there and billeted her in a nice hotel and gave her $80/day as meal and transpo allowance. At the end of the first week, the company flew her back to melbourne and flew her back again to Sydney for the 2nd week of training. She will start her employment in the nursing home near Melbourne this Feb. 21.
To all those who are trying to catch their Ozzie dream, don't be scared. My niece is just 22 years old turning 23 later this week. She didn't even have any work or volunteer experience. Yet she is now going to get employed in Oz.
As for me, I hope somebody can advice me on my case.
I hope the story of my niece will encourage the others who might be hesitant in trying.
God bless to all of us!!
Thanks joiemike for sharing your niece's story with us. Hmmm, about your dilemma, you mentioned that AHPRA sent you a letter on January 13, I'm not sure if it is a good idea to pay your tuition fees at this point as AHPRA takes awhile to assess applications and grant eligibility. Some members of this forum got theirs after 4 months, I got mine after 5 months so no one can really tell as to the time frame. What you can do perhaps is inform VCHN of your situation, maybe you can accept their offer ( I think you would have to pay the enrolment fee of 1000) and make arrangements if you can be considered in the may or succeeding intakes should your assessment fail to come out before the march intake begins.
i am also offered a slot in the march intake but I am uncertain of many things yet, should we become classmates, that would be really good. Good luck :)
congrats!nwei, wen did u send ur application? r u still here in the phil? or did u send ur application while in oz? tnx a lot!
Thank you! Yep, am still in the Phil. Sent my re-application October (got caught with the transition) here in the Phil. Now scouting for BP schools..just like Kye09, AHPRA mentioned in their letter about opening BP in Queensland early this year.."early" I suppose would be 1st quarter of the year, they did not clarify on this.
@Kye09, sorry I wasn't able to reply to your pm a long time ago, don't know how..
i have another question.. more or less, how much is the average wage per hour or a registered nurse division 1 in australia? let's say no experience yet, how much is the salary of a nurse in a hospital and nurse in a nursing home? just curious since the bp course is too expensive. how long, and how many months of work as a nurse will we be able to get our investments back? i mean is it really worth it? and will our investments really pay off?
that was fast for you ceridwen! did you pass your AHPRA application while you were in oz? or here in the Philippines? Do you think yours was faster because you were in oz? Because most of the applicants waiting for their AHPRA letter takes them 7-9 months until they receive the letter. please advise. thank you!
according to AHPRA the processing time is 90 days. i'm still in the phil. i'm in the phil when i passed my application and follow up documents, and while waiting for the result. the waiting time starts when you receive an acknowledgment e-mail from AHPRA stating that they already have your files. good luck! :)

Thanks for the opinion liaa. Duly noted. I'm still positive though that I can catch the March intake. Although I am still considering other options like Robinvale District Health Services. The school also gave a positive response to my inquiry. Their tuition fee is cheaper but the downside is that it is about 5 hours away from Melbourne. Whereas VCHN is only about 15km from my niece.
By the way, for those out there trying to apply to NZ, I would like to share you my experience.
I got my eligibility letter from the NZNC last July. But until now, there are no available slots for BP in all the schools I have applied for. Some will not accept me because they require at least 2 yrs experience. I would have wanted to go thru the NZ route for my BP and just endorse my license to AHPRA for mutual recognition. I reckoned I would have saved at lot in terms of tuition and living expenses. But sad to say, BP schools in NZ right now are all fully booked. Maybe because most overseas nurses like us would prefer it there because they're a lot cheaper compared to OZ.
But I'm not closing the door to NZ. I guess whichever comes first will be it. My AHPRA letter or BP school in NZ. Hahahahaha.
If ever I will push thru with VCHN this march, I will be looking forward to meeting you there liaa.
I still believe in miracles. God will show me the way...:)

That's good, at least you have two options already, it's just the waiting that really matters, and all that you can do for now.. How long did your application for the eligibility letter to nz take?
Actually sent my application March. Got a conditional denial by May because I forgot to include my course syllabus. Sent the lacking docs the following month. Got my eligibility to NZ July 9.
Actually NZNC processes applications with complete docs in about a month. But they have a lot more requirements than AHPRA, so many applicants get denied.

Hi guys!
What educational institution do you know that offers the least expensive tuition?
Thanks!
