Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Hi to all!
Sent my application to AHPRA VIC last week, wednesday, Feb. 09, 2011 to be exact, and today I received an email from them acknowledging the receipt of my application for registration and is currently being assessed (anxious ) and will be advised soon of the outcome, haaaayyyyysssss...
Still a long long way to go, but keeping the faith and going for it!

Wow! their response was fast huh! Did you as well send other documents already like the PRC Certificate of good standing and IELTS TRF? Did you just write AHPRA VIC, Level 8, III Bourke street Melbourne VIC 3000 for the address? I'm also about to send mine tomorrow. I just want to be 100% sure of the details. Thanks!
Nope, I've sent my application to their GPO BOX address... I've requested also certificate of good standing from PRC to be sent directly to AHPRA on the same day I've sent my application, but via regular mail hehe (much cheaper lol) and to make sure that it will not reach AHPRA VIC earlier than my application and hopefully it will arrive VIC in a month. I'm still going to request IELTS TRF to the british council, probably tomorrow, after I obtain the managers check they are requiring.
And since I do hold a Vermont license too, I've requested also a verification of license from Vermont Secretary of State to be sent directly to AHPRA VIC.
Much thanks to Cioman94 and to all for the unending advices, guidance, understanding, patience and support to us inorder to achieve our OZ dreams.
That's absolutely true cioman. We always want what we don't have.As for me, I wan't to go to Australia to be RN. I'm getting tired of volunteering in the hospital for more than a year without getting paid. I'm tired of hand-outs from my parents and my wife. I'm just fortunate that there are loved ones who have been supporting me in this Ozzie dream.
I sure would like to pay it forward. Have a few batchmates I am encouraging to follow in my footsteps. But sad to say, they really can't afford it without benefactors willing to help.
Does anyone know of any person or agency who is in the business of lending to people who want to become Aus RN?
Come to think of it... It might be a good venture when I'm there earning Aus dollars. That way, you get to earn more from your savings while at the same time helping others... just thinking out loud.
well, what you mentioned are correct.... a few years ago, BUPA or known then as Guardian Health in New Zealand, will pay for the tuition fee of BP, and which you will just pay on installment once you start working and which you will already be contracted to work with them.. the key words "a few years ago", means not now, for obvious reasons...
STill do not understand when there are sooooo.....many nurses getting their BSn over there, without much hope of getting a job and you are worried about the employment scene here.!!!....you do not need to do volunteer work here to keep nurse patient ratios up...they actually pay you...there is no way (from what I have read and been told) there is no way that getting a job in Australia with no experience is ANYTHING like what goes on in the Phillipines. full-stop. Just read 500,000 Filipino nurses out of work....phew what is that governmment thinking?
well, everything was like a snowball in a negative way.. if i remember it right(others may correct my dates/timeline), the problem started in @ 2005 when the US Visa issuance was "delayed" or "retrogress", whatever, they call it "retrogression".. but then there were still many 1st year students who enrolled in nursing and who would graduate by then 2009.. everybody thought that "retrogression" is just a temporary thing, and so in 2006 many still enrolled in nursing and would then graduate in 2010.. btw BSN is a 4-year course in Phils.. and so here we are with thousands of RNs in the Phils. who enrolled in nursing way back in 2005 or 2006.. nobody expected that "retrogression" got worse and longer time.. of course, 2007, still many enrollees.. and thats the result now, many RNs... btw, im 2004 enrollee of BSN and graduated in 2007 (3 years for "2nd coursers" like me)..
in the recent years, BSN enrollees had decreased.. the gov't would/should not stop you from enrolling in nursing, it's a free country, you can do waht you want..
just a philosophical view on this matter for the sake of sharing it not to argue anyting........ there are many many graduates of Business Management/Administration degree in the Phils., but should the gov't be concern if said graduates do not find work as "managers/administrators"?? or so, should the gov't be concern if BSN graduates do not find job as nurses?? if the gov't is concern of BSN graduates not having work as RN, then for fairness sake, the gov't should also be concern if Business mgt/admin. graduates could not find work as managers/supervisors/administrators... it is a far-stretched logic, but fair is fair... you choose that course, the gov't did not forced you..
a young chinese RN was hired by our nursing home; had started working today..
another young filipina RN will arrived here on sunday, to start working.. thus there will be 3 filipino citizens RNs working in our facility... by June 2011, will be needing another 1 because one Aus RN will retire...
early next year, 2 of us filipinos are planning to move to another place, so our nursing home will be needing 2 RNs by then to replace the 2 of us..

Oh I understand why you sent it through their GPO Box address since you probably used Philpost right? I remember your conversation here with Cioman94 on page 147 about AHPRA's adresses. Since I'm probably using a private courier like DHL, I'll use the office address then. That's what I understood.
I'm also gonna obtain that manager's check since I'll just send by courier my request for TRF from IDP Phils.

you're being replaced? why? your good news and other people's bad news make me a very confused nurse
hello unadunad! thank you for your advice. no it's not about con vs rhc, although the cheaper fee and possible immediate employment in rhc really makes me reevaluate many things. i want to back out because of the many disheartening things like oz doesn't need foreign RNs, ENs are cheaper, surplus and unemployment of local oz grads, not knowing aboriginal culture, expensive bp fee, being second class, slow AHPRA, no vacant positions, returning to phil after bp then can't get back to oz, limited time to look for job, working in rural area, no sponsor, choosy in required experience, and many more. all these things run in my head all the time. i think these are enough reasons to back out from my oz dream. there's too much to risk and i'm not a risk taker, i'm a control freak who plays safe lol! i was very excited about this at first.
I have been offered a slot in La Trobe this coming May - I have no idea what I am going to have to face when I get there, but I am sure that I will regret it forever it I don't try.
I graduated 2008 and as of the moment I have 5 batchmates already in australia - 4 of which do not have any experience at all. 1 of them got hired right after the BP. I'm sure that there are always challenges to getting hired, but according to the immigration website of australia, nurses and doctors are chronically needed throughout the country. Also, according to the schools I have talked to, majority if not 100% of their graduates find employers who petition a 457 for them.
I hope I will be as lucky.
to you and to all who have doubts....for the sake of being selfish about this things, i will be glad if all of you will back out because it means less competition on my part and on my sister whom i will help later to become a RN in Australia..
and so in many instances, i have given my opinion/encourage everybody on why you should pursue becoming RN here in Australia.. but if anyone of you or if many of you will back out, the reality is, it will have a very positive effect on me and my sister, because it means fewer competitors in the job market..
so come think of it really, i should discourage all of you instead to come here for my own and my sister's benefit... perhaps i will try the other way, that is, i will no longer give encouraging words, but i will just continue give information and help as much as i can.. at least, at the end of the day, it will be your choice or your own conscience which will decide and not because i encourage you to do so..
cheers! good luck!
Thank you for being so honest cioman. You do make a very sound argument.
