New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

OT too.

So he's in Kuwait too? (is it kuwait? hehe) anyway yeah i think you should go together. I always tell my hubby that i want to work in Saudi since they welcome inexperienced nurses (just to get the experience that i need) but he won't let me. :heartbeat haha!

its hard when you have someone with you, you still have to take them into consideration before coming up with a decision. hahaha! :lol2: kidding.

anyway, yeah i hope we can all make it there in few years time.:) goodluck on your application as well and I hope you can finally decide on which path you'd like to take.

Nah.. he's in Sydney actually lol.. Which explains why I want to study in USyd in the first place.. :) Saudi well... is pretty much too strict unlike here in Kuwait. Kuwait is fairly more open and you can go out freely without having to wear any "abaya" and you can freely talk to the opposite sex unlike in Saudi.

It is true that having someone to think about is a pain in the ass lol.. but then again.. life wouldn't be as fun without them.. naks! lol :p

Yeah I hope so sis.. I really want to meet all those working on their registration at the moment, later on in Aus.. Hope the best for everyone :)

*WOOT* to that! :dncgbby: I couldn't agree more!haha. hmmm that's why your so keen to go to Sydney.:clown:. Oh well, goodluck on your decision, whatever it is. take your time and decide wisely. :D

guys i have spoken to one of the nurse agencies in melbourne, i was suppose to ask his opinion of transferring my application to queensland instead in victoria. and he cant book an appoinment date with me because he is in Manila with the philippine consul in melbourne, he told me that they are recruiting nurses...

the bad news is, they will be in manila until friday only, they already started recruiting nurses since last week.

Thanks for the help. :) We really appreciate it.

In turn, if you need any help too, we will try our best to give you the information you seek.

As for your situation, I thought about it for a bit and here is what I have come up with:

QLD

Pros: Cheaper Alternative

Can do it off-campus )while in victoria

Have two options : Challenge test (Fast-track) or Education Modules

Cons: Have to transfer registration to Victoria after

Will have to pay another fee when transferring (as far as I know)

Will have to stay in Qld for a month if going for the Education Modules (will account for more living expenses and hassle)

Will have to wait again for the registration in Victoria after

VIC

Pros: You will stay in victoria and there will be no extra living expenses

The bridging program is just about the same length compared to the Education modules.

You will be oriented in the clinical setting in Victoria rather than in another state's

Cons: More expensive

Hope that helps you a bit. :) Goodluck!

thanks for that..yes you have to pay for a registration in victoria even if you are a licenced nurse interstate, but that doesnt bother me, as long as im registered it would be easier to register in another state, under the mutual recognition act.

actually, ive already inquired about it, and the NBV told me that upon lodgement of the papers its either you will be given recognition straight away, or you have to wait for 2 days or 2 weeks before you will be given a registration, but for sure you will be registered.

and about the clinical placement in queensland, yes, 1 month is a bit long, but nothing we could do...luckily one of my aunties is residing in queensland...but i still prefer to rent a unit or a room...

OT: CAS informed me, that they will be conducting the part a of the challenge test in my place where im currently residing, im so happy its a lot more convinient than travelling for hours...

thanks...hope we could meet each other once you guys already are residing here...ill pray for that.

Well then you're all set! :) It seems you are going for CAS :) I wish you luck and hopefully all goes well with that :)

That is good news too that they will be conducting part a near your place! It seems there is not much to worry then. ;)

I hope we all could meet too.. someday :) And thanks for the prayers :)

yes CAS...i have to brave though...:D

ive lost my memory, i have to scan my notes again...

question: about the module, i understand that each module can be taken for 12 weeks...if by chance i finished it less than 12 weeks, are they going to accept it, if im going to submit it?will they process my papers once they received the module?or they will process it after 12 weeks?

I think it's okay... cuz someone here posted that his friend finished all modules in 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 months only... pretty fast actually lol..

Hi! I've been reading this forum for quite some time now and I've been pretty much enlightened to apply for registration in QLD since I also have an aunt there who's willing to help. She's currently residing somewhere in Salisbury, Brisbane. I was wondering what school is nearest to her place? And if I would go for the challenge test, where would the Part A be held? Should that be taken in Aus already? Under what visa? I'm currently inexperienced, but I'm hoping to be included in the next volunteer batch by January in a hospital here. If I'm on the right track, after applying in QNC, I'll have to apply in a school for the challenge exam (CAS)? then find an employer to sponsor for a workin visa? Thank you so much! More power to kind people like you guys!!
