Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
Hi! I've been reading this forum for quite some time now and I've been pretty much enlightened to apply for registration in QLD since I also have an aunt there who's willing to help. She's currently residing somewhere in Salisbury, Brisbane. I was wondering what school is nearest to her place? And if I would go for the challenge test, where would the Part A be held? Should that be taken in Aus already? Under what visa? I'm currently inexperienced, but I'm hoping to be included in the next volunteer batch by January in a hospital here. If I'm on the right track, after applying in QNC, I'll have to apply in a school for the challenge exam (CAS)? then find an employer to sponsor for a workin visa? Thank you so much! More power to kind people like you guys!!
Hello Ziggy and welcome :)
Griffith Uni would be the closest to your Aunt's place - as in several minutes away only :) Next one would be University of Queensland.
Let me correct your interpretation with the CAS. :) First, you will have to apply to QNC for the registration. They will give you the go signal when you will need to decide between Challenge test and Education Modules. If you choose the Challenge test, it is conducted every wed (2nd I think) of the month in Manila for Part A. Part B will need to be completed in Brisbane. QNC will assign the placement.
As for the education modules, you can do it offshore - in PI. It is done online and assessments are thru essay assignments. There are 4 modules with one module including a clinical placement for 4 weeks which has to be completed in Brisbane too. Each module is to be finished in approximately 12 weeks. However, you are allowed to enroll in as many modules as you please.
You can go to Australia thru a variety of visas to complete your clinical component in Brisbane. The most common visas used are Student visa, 456 Visa or tourist/family sponsored visa.
Upon successful registration, you will have to find an employer who will be willing to sponsor you for a working visa - most commonly used is a 457 Visa.
Hope that helps a bit. :)
Thank you so much aelith! You have definitely helped me. I'm glad to know that the CAS can be completed here in the Phil except for the part B. I'll most probably try my luck with the challenge test. I'll start working on my application for QNC. Let's continue to pray for guidance on the decisions we're gonna make! Prayers make wonders... Thank you once again..

Good luck with that ziggy :) If there's anything else you need, you can always come back here and post your queries :)
Update us too if you can. There are a lot of inexperienced nurses here who have applied to QNC. :)
hey everyone, can someone tell me about the australian visa process? what i mean is for example you were initially given short term business visa, then if you find an employer wo is willing to sponsor you, can this visa be converted to permanent visa? how long does it take for you to obtain such visa, esp. in NSW? I heard that education of dependents is not free unless you are a holder of permannent visa. is that true? please can someone elaborate this further. thanks guys!

Education in Uni is not free as far as I know, even if you are a permanent resident. You will have to pay a participation fee of some sort (which is a few thousand dollars, and will depend on your course) then the rest is lent by the government. When you are working, you will have to pay that loan thru taxes. That is how it goes when you are a PR or citizen.
If you are not yet a permanent resident, you will be paying the full tuition fee as an International student even if you have visas that will let you stay for a long time - as long as you are not yet a permanent resident, this is the case.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The short stay visa or the 456 will require you to leave Australia before your visa expires. However, you can apply for another visa so you can extend your stay in Australia - this can be done as long as you don't have any "no further stay" or 8503 printed on your visa. Should you have a no further stay condition, you will not be able to apply for any other visa whilst in Australia apart from a Protection Visa.

The Permanent Visa can be applied for as long as you have experience to back you up - for skilled migration. That is as far as I know. So, for example, those who will be under 457 Visa (Business Long stay) can be sponsored by their employers for a permanent visa after an estimated 1-2 years work experience. This will really depend on your employer and whether you were inexperienced or not.

hi, i can answer some of your questions except the visa thing, im not expert about visa...in my family's case we were granted a migrant visa (temporary residency) for two years, after two years of staying in australia we were eligible to apply for permanent residency. in the case of my CI who applied for a skilled migrant visa, she was then granted permanent residency. and she was able to sponsor her family right then (i think the government will help the skilled migrants to sponsor their family).
for education support of your dependents...the government (centrelink, the governments arm in organising its social care, things like that, such as child support, carers allowance...etc.) will give the dependent's parents/guardian a child support for their kids every fortnight, my younger brother who was 12 years old that time when we came to australia with temporary residency, was eligible to be given a child support. this child support should be used for the dependents schooling and other needs.
aside from child support, under the temporary visa, you get medicare benefits, you can use this one when you want to see a doctor and you will not be charged even a single cent for the consultation(except for the medicine, which you have to pay)...and there is also a free English class for the whole family (optional, you may not attend)...
if you want more info about having a visa and what benefits can you get with the type of visa you want, go to the Dept. of Immigration website...www.dima.gov.au or immi.gov.au(im not sure with this, just google their website.
hi guys. whoo it's been a long time since i actually read something from this forum and there are a loooot of posts. how is everyone doing? is everybody still off to Queensland? anybody here trying for NSW?
by the way, i would like to ask something for clarification...does being a volunteer nurse count as experience??? or do i have to be a reliever or staff nurse? it's quite difficult to find a staff position in our city these days as the hospitals are so packed! the best they can offer is volunteer training for three months tops...and then they get rid of you...they don't actually make you reliever nurses because there are so many volunteers (who work for free so that saves them a lot of moolah).if you guys have any idea on this your reply would be very much appreciated.

While paid experience is ideal, any experience is valued when employers look at your CVs. However, volunteering will not essentially easily secure you a job later on, but, it also doesn't mean that it would go unnoticed.

if you are talking about application for registration, in victoria its not counted...but still you are able to apply for a registration...i myself got a 3-month volunteer experience in the philippines, but when i register, they told me its not valid, since they are looking for a working experience in a registered capacity...but then i was able to apply for a registration.:nuke:
