Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
Finding a sponsor would be relatively easy in a country with a nursing shortage. Australia has several thousands of hospitals and nursing homes. Worst comes worst endorse your license to New Zealand and find a work there.
Sorry, but i beg to disagree. here in Singapore there's a lot of nursing shortage here but i can't get in. in Canada, UK, USA, UAE, NZ the number of nursing shortage are overwhelming but we can't get in. Australia may have thousands of hospitals and nursing homes, but as we know there are also thousands of experienced nurses from different parts of the world who wants to go there. Australia is still a top destination for some. So i don't think as long as there is nursing shortage, finding a job for inexperienced ones are easy.
If you try to get in touch with different agencies and hospitals you will know that most of them prefer sponsoring nurses with previous work experience. you see its easier for agencies to market experienced nurses to their clients compared to us.
As for the agencies who welcome inexperienced nurses, they aren't so easy to find.
Although, like what i always stress here, finding a job in Au is indeed possible, but not easy.

For someone who is determined to be a nurse, finding sponsorship would be relatively easy in Australia. In any country, with the exception of the Philippines (of course), nursing job has always been in demand. The biggest hurdle will always be the licensure process.
You just need to show and convince the employer that you know nursing, you're a safe nurse and is hardworking. I've talked to several nurse recruiters across North America and through e-mail in Australia. They would always asked me, "Do you have the license to practice?" It's just a matter of marketing yourself and answering interview questions truthfully.
You have to get a RN license in Singapore before you can commence work. Passing IELTS is far more difficult and expensive than finding an employer in Australia. This entire QNC process will take you months to complete. Finding an employer will take you a week.
what came up? mind sharing?@r!ssem.. i'd probably apply in queensland :nuke:
Well sis... economy in Australia is pretty much affected by the global eco crisis and so, there had been quite a few lay offs already... contracts not being renewed >. And the best part, I have to wait till next year to know what will really happen..:uhoh21: It's really driving me nuts lol...
Wish I could just sleep and wake up in Aus... lol

so you're migrating mate? Congratulations to you. you'll be in Brisbane in no time. As for us, we're in big dilemma. We changed our visa to 475 (provisional visa) and hopefully lodge it by January. I hope our application still pushes thru despite the rumors about the possibility of cutting immigration intake next financial year.

This is actually a subjective issue and is dependent on several important factors - one of which is experience. But this is also not to say that it is entirely impossible for one to get a sponsor if he/she is inexperienced. It is not really that easy but with some luck and right contacts, it is definitely possible.
However, I really wouldn't want to say it is relatively easy because if it was that easy, I would've at least found one agency or employer willing to sponsor an inexperienced nurse. But what I found was either those agencies requiring at least some experience 1-2 years (2 years being the norm), and hospitals and agencies willing to accept inexperienced nurses as long as you have your registration and a valid working visa. Inexperienced nurses are also eligible for the Graduate nurse Program but they need you to have a valid visa that will let you stay and work in Australia legally.
Actually, we do have agencies in PI who do provide employment for inexperienced nurses but most here chose not to avail that because of the high fee.
I really hope anyone who found any agency, aged care facility or hospitals (private or public) who do sponsor inexperienced nurses can share what they know here (not the details because one cannot post it here but rather a general update that they found a sponsor and we can just exchange PMs for the details).

I wish it was really that easy for me to migrate hehehe.. :) I don't have relatives there... And I still can't fully decide which path to take... argh! lol... oh well..
Oh you applied for a regional sponsored/relative sponsored one? Glad you found someone to nominate you for it. :) Should be a breeze to get PR later on :) Well rumors will stay as rumors unless they implement it hehehe.. And I hope it stays that way lol... but anyway, they are still giving visas so there is still hope :)

Yep regional sponsored. my hubby is the main applicant. he's an architect so we're choosing between NT,WA,SA and ACT. but i think we'll go for WA since in SA we need to show 20,000AUD as proof of funds before our sponsorship can be granted (dont have that much.lol). right now we're both reviewing for IELTS and his assessment with VETASSESS is currently on process. I really wish we can make it there. the influx of migrating applicants are getting bigger so we need to act soon.
Haha this OT already, sorry. Anyway, goodluck to you. you should go for the QLD challenge test since this is the most convenient one. I said before im willing to share my review materials i just really need to finish my IELTS test.

Oh that's nice sis! I hope all goes well for you and your hubby :) I'll pray for you :)
OT: Well.. hehe sis I have quite a few options lined up and can't really decide. One big factor is partner's situation lol... If he moves, I will have to move Then again, wherever I will go, he will follow lol.. but since the economy is not so good at the moment, I just can't risk going anywhere because it might be hard for him to get a job there... so yea lol.. Fiance/spouse visa is just too long to process and I just don't want to do it yet lol.. oh well... we will see how it goes next year :)
Hopefully I'll see you there later on. :)

OT too.
So he's in Kuwait too? (is it kuwait? hehe) anyway yeah i think you should go together. I always tell my hubby that i want to work in Saudi since they welcome inexperienced nurses (just to get the experience that i need) but he won't let me. :heartbeat haha!
its hard when you have someone with you, you still have to take them into consideration before coming up with a decision. hahaha! kidding.
anyway, yeah i hope we can all make it there in few years time.:) goodluck on your application as well and I hope you can finally decide on which path you'd like to take.

Thank you rlssem.
But I think, you are not getting our points. We know that the jobs are easy to get as long as you have the visa. The visa is the problem. :) Yes, registration is needed, however, the sponsorship I am talking about is for the visa after registration. It is a given fact that we all must be registered first in order to practise in Australia. Everybody is already in the process of attaining that particular registration. What actually is the concern of many here is the working visa. And for one to get a working visa, one needs an employer willing to sponsor.
The problem is most employers and agencies in Australia offer sponsorship for those with at least 1 year experience. It is a different case for someone who already has a valid visa with work rights. Anyone who has a visa with work rights is able to easily get a job in Australia. I hope you see now the difference. :)
We appreciate your inputs though. And we welcome any other information especially regarding potential agencies or employers who are actually willing to sponsor overseas inexperienced nurses after they have been registered. :)
