New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

I would really advise you to double check all the important information with QNC as I don't want to give you any wrong info.

Yes you can do all the modules at the same time. But the clinical placement would have to be in Brisbane. :)

thanks. so aside from education modules, you are also required to do clinical placements?

about the education module, is that a learning kit? or its a like a test too?

thanks so much.

Actually, one of the modules have a clinical placement - remember the one I quoted before? So, basically 3 modules would be purely theoretical and one module is a combination of both - workbook and clinical placement (160 hours).

The Education module is an assessment too but you learn a little bit as well. you will have to pass all the modules - assessment is by assignments and practicals.

she is going to study in Usyd for 2 yrs. Am i right sis? hehe!

no. you can apply for registration even if you don't have any work experience. but having hospital experience would help you get work right away compared to inexperienced ones... like me...

but if you already have an australian license, finding a job would be a lot more easier..i mean, there are lots of agencies that can give you casual work in different hospitals in your place...so that would be considered as an experience...

how about you, where are you applying for a registration?

Guys and Gals applying for queensland, i just have spoken with one of the customer representatives of CAS-CQU...i was able to asked some questions, one of which is the fee of the challenge test...Part A - $260 and Part B- $504...for the Education Modules - $900+ each module...

Once you become a registered nurse in QNC or other nursing board in Australia, looking for/finding a job would really be possible, but not exactly "easy". Not every nursing agency in Au caters to registered-inexperienced-overseas-nurses. I used to get in touch with several nursing agencies before and most of them do not cater to inexperienced nurses even if they are registered in Au. Also if you browsed through some threads here, Aussie nurses say that working in hospitals through graduate nursing program (for inexperienced/fresh grad nurses) are highly desirable. So mostly local graduates and PRs get the position.

If you happen to attend the seminar in one nursing consultancy in the Philippines, the job placement they offer is in a nursing home not job in hospitals since its hard to get in esp for overseas inexperienced ones.

Anyway it doesn't mean we won't find a job. We surely will. and the work-in-the-hospital possibility is not impossible. im just saying that this is the situation we have today. it may not apply to you but this happens to others.

Hello :)

I might not be going for that certain route. Also, currently, QNC still accepts inexperienced applicants.
