Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
hi chriscole.
like what aelith has said, you meant registration and not studying because those are 2 different matters.
i have corresponded with curtin university with regard to the program you were asking.
the bachelor of science (nursing)-conversion program for registered nurses is a one year program. the estimated annual tuition fee (2009 rates) is aud$21,600.
they do not specifically provide a bridging program, which is 1 semester, for nurses. what they offer is the conversion pogram. you need to provide curtin university with the approval letter from the nmbwa before lodging your application. it is quite a lot of money and i think it would be better to opt for a bridging program in private or public hospitals. good luck on your application for registration.
okay so I have to wait for the Boards reply before I can lodge my application at CUT. Just a thought, what is the difference between a Bridging Course and a Conversion Program?
as what my friend told me, i think the bridging course is for RNs who got enough working experience, and i believe in WA the minimum work experience is two years post registration, the bridging course(cost:AUD$880) could be taken three months. The conversion program(cost: AUD$ 21,000) is for RNs who havent got experience/enough experience and those nurses who havent got registration in their country of origin...(i might be wrong though).
maybe someone from here can further this info of mine...:)
good luck.
oh ! I thought they are both the same, I checked with CURTIN UNIV website its written there --
THE REGISTRATION BRIDGING PROGRAM IS OFFERED TO NURSES WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED REGISTERED NURSE QUALIFICATIONS WHETHER IN AUSTRALIA OR OVERSEAS AND NOW SEEK TO REGISTER IN DIVISION 1 WITH THE NURSES BOARD OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA..
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
All applicants must apply directly to the Nurses Board of Western Australia and have a 'letter of eligibility' to undertake the Registration Bridging Program.
International applicants will be admitted to the Registration Bridging Program via the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) Registered Nurse Conversion course and complete 1 semester of study to gain registration
.
International Applicants must have a 'letter of eligibility' from the NBWA and meet English language competency as per Nurses Board of Western Australia requirements. Applicants will be required to demonstrate competence in English by having achieved entry requirements in one of the following tests:
-Occupational English Training (OET) with a minimum score of B Pass or above in each section.
-English Language Bridging Course Curtin University with a grade of 60% or more in all units of study.
-International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall band of 7.0, a minimum of 7.0 each for speaking and writing and 6.5 each for reading and listening.
hi nursmavi, I'm also interested in studying for the conversion/bridging course.Ive already submitted my docS to NMBWA for assessment 2 days ago.while waiting for their response do you have any advice on what i should do next?btw,I'm planning to study at Curtin University Perth WA.
THANKS IN ADVANCE
GODBLESS.
thanks Aelith, i would like to study for the conversion program and hopefully register as a nurse. However is it okay I've already submitted documents to the board for assessment, do i have to finished my studies first to be eligible for registration?
You will be eligible for registration either route. You can be registered after finishing a pre-registration BN degree in Australia or by directly applying for registration and undergoing a bridging program.
It wouldn't matter much if ever you applied now because you can either advise the NMBWA that you will be taking a 1 year (pre-registration course) instead of the bridging program or you can just let your application rot there and later on be discarded by them.
Hi everyone! I just would like to ask your opinion.
i attended an orientation last week in a consultancy firm in Malate, Manila and i am super interested in signing up with them. However, my mom told me to first be sure if the consultancy is credible and not fake/scammer, if not i might end up as a victim.
Can anyone assure me that the consultancy is credible and that my money wont be wasted?
Please respond...:):wink2: thanks!:redbeathe:redpinkhe:clown:

thats what my friend told me, there is a bridging course for nurses who have at least 2 years of working experience and the other program is for nurses who havent got enough experience...i reckon CUT's website is not detailed...how about checking WA's board of nursing website?
do you have experience already?
okay so I have to wait for the Boards reply before I can lodge my application at CUT. Just a thought, what is the difference between a Bridging Course and a Conversion Program?
Bridging Course is a Competency Assessment program to be completed after a certain number of months & used by any State regulating Authority to assess the competency of the applicant whether the applicant is an overseas registered nurse or a nurse previously registered who is returning to practise (at some states only). A bridging course is usually no more than 6 months. Also, one can only be nominated by the relevant state regulating authority - which simply means you have to apply for registration first before anything else.
On the other hand, a Conversion program is a program to be completed in 1 year. This is offered by Universities and is specifically designed for overseas registered nurses who are either inexperienced or experienced. Applicants can directly apply to the Universities without the need to apply for registration with the relevant state regulating authority. Upon successful completion of the program, the applicant will be eligible for registration in the relevant state.
For WA, bridging program providers require at least 1 year experience. However, I have heard one applicant was able to get in the bridging program without any experience (this is not to say it is normal tho). Other states have different rules and requirements. Other states offer a 1 year program which has a lower tuition (e.g. Flinders Uni's 1 year prog for overseas RNs has a tuition fee of 16K AUD).

Just to clarify, do you want to study or to register? If you are going to study, you only have to apply to the University and not to the Nurses and midwives Board. Such studies include the conversion program.
Also, not all universities offer a conversion program (1 year program) - it is actually offered by only a handful Universities. The website of CUT at the moment is not working so I can't check. But as soon as it is up, I will double check for you and update you whether or not they have the program.
