New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

well dear,

i´ll try to answer the questions i know....

1- yes! u can send the form without the ielts results but i believe they wont assess you without the result ´cos they will assess all ur docs once they are all complete

(someone correct me if i´m wrong...)

2- no idea

3- if u r sending ur cv now then u should write about the program u r about to start taking and write what u´ve been doing in ur gap ( i have the same problem as urs...)

4- nº6: i had the same doubt as urs...answer no ´cos u r not in au yet and bellow provide the address of ur current employer ( at least that´s what i´ll do )

nº 7- ur home address or the address where u want to be contacted by them.

nº 11- ex: title of quali: nursing degree or nursing postgraduate course (depending o what u did last)

( again, someone correct me if i´m wrong...)

- what is ur specific doubt concerning question 13?

nº16- ur answer should be yes if u studied outside au (for ex. i completed my degree in brazil)

that´s why we must take the ielts! go to question 18 if yes

nº18- i had exactly the same doubt.....u should write yes ( read the explanations the others from the thread have given me)

nº 20- it depends....how long have u been a nurse?

if u´ve been a nurse for 0 to five years and has a minimum of 3 mo exp then u should check the 1st box...

5- dunno for sure...

hope i have helped u....:nurse:

thank you very much! right now i'm processing my missing set/s of immunization.....for my ielts i'm planning to take it this december....... and by next week i'm on a training in a tertiary hospital in the province for 2 months.

hope to see you all in 2011 (or 2012)

ps: about question 13

i'm planning to include my "current" hospital training experience (on-going)

Hi guys! Who among you are planning to join University of Ballarat - William Light Institute's IRON for the September intake? The campus is in Adelaide, SA.:clown:

And one thing more. Regarding the Acceptance into an Approved Program Notification (the form that we will be mailing prior to commencing the bridging), will NBV's postal address there still apply? I am talking about GPO Box 4932 Melbourne VIC 3001 Aussie. Or are we going to utilize another form of correspondence for that matter? AHPRA's mailing address, perhaps?

Thank you so much.

I just would like to ask you mooh mooh, what did they say regarding this... Where did you send yours?

- since you do not a review materials yet.. what's the next best thing to do???? ...open and update your FB account... or better yet open the AHPRA website and read about nursing codes, ethics, competency standards, nursing laws, healthcare institutions, ACFI...

why open and update my fb account? is that facebook?

wow cioman94 congrats .. my sis got her license too without undergoing BP but then she was working in sg at that time she applied and through nz cuz its easier to get approval daw ... she s working her butt off to get me there and actually she forced me into nursing  hahaha .i graduated BSN-SP btw. but i guess i kinda liked it along the way .. all those previous inhibitions were kinda just in my head pala .. hehe .. good luck on ur job hunting and fyi u have been a real help in this site ..

Hey there RZRYLOY! I am not so sure of it, as I have yet to send mine. But a fellow forumer told me that she is

going to send the form to the new address of AHPRA. Perhaps, I'll do the same :)

for #11 do you also indicate other nursing exams passed like the nclex? don't have the nclex, just passed the exam in ca. do i have to include that?

i assume where talking here of a hard copy form.. i assume you passed the nclex in California, given a "certificate" but not issued an official "nursing license" (for reasons you and i know, im nclex passer too but in vermont)..

here's the thing you should clarify with CA nsg board...

--- If you're going to request them a "verification of license" or "certification of good standing", can they issue that for you by directly sending it to AHPRA? or will they issue another some form of "certification" about your "status" which they will directly send to AHPRA?

--- IF YES, then you may include it, and IF possible just give some "disclosure" explaining your and other nurses' situation in CA..

--- if NO, then there would be some hitch if AHPRA will request for a "verification" from CA..

see the difference, im not actually giving you an answer to your question, instead i am just reminding you of the scenarios being a CA nclex passer (unlike others like me Vermont, New Mex, Texax.. who were officially issued nursing license).

good luck, best wishes...

-- officially speaking per AHPRA's announcement, all PENDING applications of previous boards prior July 01 (like yours) will be endorsed to AHPRA....

--- the rule is, all PENDING applications will now be subjected to the new rules, if under new rules you lack one or more documents then you will be required to submit them, if under the new rules all your documents are good and complete then that's it.. okey..

--- therefore you do not need to send new AHPRA forms, unless AHPRA contacted you to do so.. in view of this, the ideal thing for you to do is to contact AHPRA and know your status (e.g. pending docus to be submitted, approval letter for your BP).. in this way, you will know if they lost your docus or not, and know your status or pending docus to be complied under the new rules..

bear in mind the volume of paperworks they have now because of the transition... better pray that they would be able to address your needs quickly..

good luck...

i dont know if you had already sent your application... BSN-SP.. hopefully your nsg course was for a period of 3 or 4 years (not 2 1/2 years)... "SP" , I assume you are a "second courser"... what does your DIPLOMA and TOR looks like?? does the "SP/special program" written there?? if not, better utilize "BSN" to avoid the need to further explain what the heck is SP (e.g. student permit, discount sa bus, senior citizens program,).... just consider yourself as BSN graduate like others (for Aus. application purposes).... hope you read between the line and got what i really wanna say for the benefit of other SP like me, and future SP applicants... i think you know what i mean... peace... good luck on your application...
