New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

what is the difference between RN bridging and RN bridging/OS in the approved course list? does this mean BP is still available as what a previous post have mentioned that there will no longer be BP for nurses?

I think OS stands for OverSeas, if I'm not mistaken.

from what I understand the RN/OS is specifically for overseas nurses. The regular RN Bridging is for re-entering the profession, which I understand as those already registered and have practiced in Australia.:)

Hi everyone!

If you haven't undergone the bp, you still pass your requirements to AHPRA right? What do you put in the CV? That you are still awaiting their recommendation to take it?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Hi Aimz. They are pdf files. I was able to get them from the link. You need adobe acrobat/reader in your computer. You can download the reader for free from the internet:)

Thank you, Doza! How embarrasing.. Apparently forgot to update my Adobe Reader, hence the difficulty in opening the file. Tsk tsk. Thanks again!

Stupid re-post. My fault.

Anyways. Quick clarifications about the Overseas Applicant Form from AHPRA.

a.) When filling this form up, must we already have an employer interested in us? There is a box that asks for "principal place of practice/employment in AU".

b.) "Qualitifications/Examinations/Assessments" Portion: Is this referring to the schools that you have attended or the PRC/Nursing BON?

c.) Indemnity Insurance?

I'm sorry for the naive questions. Just making sure I fully understand what they're asking.

I just took the NLE this July. (God help me). And will basically be researching about all this for the next two months. My brother is a citizen in AU, and I am the youngest in the family. If anyone has any suggestions or tips on what I can do, please do help me out.

Best wishes to all! Cheers!

Hi everyone. I'd like to share that I spoke with an acquaintance of mine who is in Australia right now. He is with a group of nurses who finished their bp. (don't remember where they took it) He said that those that applied in hospitals for work, that had no paid working experience are having a hard time getting a job. That they can't even get an interview. My friend, with 2 years clinical took a job in aged care. He didn't mention if he applied in hospitals or why he wasn't accepted if he did.

This is not to dishearten, only to prepare most on what's there. Good luck!:)

if you're a second courser, do you still submit your transcript from your the first university you graduated from? because my nursing transcript includes all my subjects from my previous school.

thanks for the help!

hello everybody.. i've finally received my approval letter from nbv.. i'm good to go for the bp.. anyone here planning to take the bp in deakin on jan 2011?

i'm from the Philippines by the way. How much will they require us financially to get the 456 visa (for example: if my school fee is around 10K)?

"As my parting post, let me share to you something which others might be aware already. Remember the needed qualifications required by bp providers and/or employers...? They can be bent. *wink*. There’s a legal back door for them. So if you think you’re not qualified, I encourage you to think again. The requirements here in aus are flexible. I know a lot of people who are now aus nurses. And some of them bent the rules to join the game. And I’m so happy and proud of them. And soon I’ll be bending these rules too. As a fresh graduate nurse with zero experience. "

Ohhh Terd...jay, hheeellloooooo, clever little bunny, you see overhere, we already know this goes on, has done for years!!!....doh, let us "éxperienced nurses'' give you a big hug and take your hand, new graduate with zero experience, and show you how its sposed to be dun.

Mind you might just catch you out though and doh, negligence, nil registratiionn then...and what else will you 'bend the rules with'"?

ps sorry to interrupt, couldn't let that one go....

Hi terdjay. I would caution against talking about bending the rules. I think that Australians won't like reading that. I don't want to start another word war here, as it's really a matter of semantics. However the legal back door you speak of might insult them. :twocents::redbeathe

To those that said they won't post anymore, please reconsider, esp javRN:cry:

yep doza, second the motion..

also, this is an international thread but i believe that 9 out of 10 who are reading this are filipinos.. so could we continue to act and communicate like one, i mean we are not known to be frank speaking people, instead we are a bit diplomatic on the way we speak, i hope we will continue to be diplomatic in this thread.. meaning, learning to say please, and say sorry.. many thread members here knew many many things and we thank them for that and for sharing their information, but i just hope we remind ourselves that while we know many things, we do not know everything, hence the reason to remain diplomatic in our answers (giving allowance for some errors so to speak)..

for members who already had their aus license like me, lets continue helping others by sharing our information to them in a filipino diplomatic way (of course crab mentality is also a filipino way, hehehehe).. peace...

1) employer interested?? -- No, not required... which state/territory do you intend to stay in aus and take the bp? is it NSW, Victoria, where ba?? --- that's the answer, if NSW, then write New South Wales..

2) I have not seen the form, but "qualification/s" definitely means -- your bachelor's degree in nursing..

3) Indemnity Insurance --- what? are they asking you for it or are they asking your commitment to get it?? Idemnity insurance is a professional insurance whereby if in case you injure a patient and the patient files civil case for damages then the insurance company will pay the damages (because you got indemnity insurance)..

As we always advice, just have the patience to read the AHPRA website, up and down, side to side.. So that we can help you, post your specific queries...

good luck..
