New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

P.S.

@ terdjay what do you mean by BPs in Australia might sprout? can you expound on this? thanks :)

Right now Qld and nsw are already closed. But when they reopen by natl reg they might introduce a new program patterned after the bp of wa, sa and Vic. Bp is the best program for overseas nurses and they found out that CAS is not so effective and fresh graduates who had done bp are as competent as the experienced nurses. The natl reg before requires a 6 mos experience but bec of Vic recommendation they scrapped it. The natl reg is now requiring 3 mos experience only which can be met through doing bp which is also considered a CPE. And insurance for nurses are now required prior to employment. Cheers!

thanks terdjay. keep us updated. i do hope the natl reg will give better opportunities to Filipino nurses regardless of experience.

Hi. NBV sent back my application form telling me to make amendments. On the letter, they said I have to have the amendments initialled. That's the term they used. But my dad insists I have to sign on the amendments I made. What should I do? Put the initials of my name or sign it? Do I draw a line on the mistakes or enclose it on parentheses? Thank you so much for your help.

hello

just curious, can you share what amendments have been done? and do they require you to use the same application forms? i mean the same forms you sent them previously..

Yes, they sent the mail together with my application form. They put flags on the pages which need changes. The school from which I graduated has an abbreviation. I wrote Sto. instead of Santo. It also says here that my Birth Certificate is not fully readable. But the document I sent is a clear colored photocopy of my B.C. Should I just send the original? Lastly, how do I get the Verification of Registration Status from PRC? I only submitted Cert of Good Standing from PRC which I sent separately from my application form.

oh i see. i sent an original copy of my birth certificate, the one issued by NSO. and i think that would be readable enough for them to see unless it is tampered or something. I think the cert. of Good standing will suffice. some forumers did not submit a verification of registration thing. that's what i did as well, and i hope they wont ask me to have it sent.

Hi solace! For your Birth cert, send your original birth certificate from the NSO. If it's not readable, you can get an LCR of your birth cert which can be obtained from the Local Registrar's office. Send these two to NBV. In my case, it's the PRC who sent my Cert of Good Standing along with the certified true copy of my license ( i'm registered in NMBWA though).

oh yes, it should be sent by PRC, by the way. :)

and also try to add an authenticated board certificate just to be sure. let the PRC do the authentication of your documents.

mikyong is right, PRC should submit these docs to the board. good luck!

Thank you for your replies. When I went to PRC to get the Cert. of GS and asked them to DHL it to NBV, they told me to just go to the DHL outside the PRC building. The waybill on the envelope has PRC's name on it and not mine. So it's like PRC sent it to them. BTW, I only sent the Cert. of GS as it's the only one being asked. I'll call NBV tomorrow just to confirm what I need to change. I've spent so much for DHL already. lol.
