New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

guys, how do you go about requesting your professional standing and verification of registration from the US to be sent to NMB NSW?

as far as i know after going through NMBNSW's booklet for overseas nurses, there was no downloadable request form for the verification of registration. I was searching one before i decided to choose NBV over NSW, but never found it or it was just one of my epic fails, probably. try asking your board where you are registred if they have one.

Hi

Been awhile since I last posted. Just had our orientation today in LaTrobe Bendigo. Basically, t'was just a tour around the city and what not... nothing impt has been discussed as of yet. I believe we are about 26 in the class and 9 of which are Filipinos. Just sad about the food here... everything is so freakin' expensive. Prices of clothes are okay, just fair but the food!!! And I kinda wonder how Aussies get to be very big when they eat so little. Hehe...

Anyway, it's really freezing over here. Will try to update as soon as class begins.

Goodluck guys! I guess almost everyone has their NBV approval already.

@Chocokat, countmein, uh_huh, therooftop Tc guys... I'm just a ym away if you guys need anything.

Hi guys! Just wanna ask why is it that nobody applied to the Northern Territory? Just curious... :D

Actually one forumer got registered in the NT. If my memory serves me right, I think it was cioman94. Lucky for him he didn't even have to undergo a bridging program. He just convinced the board that he is competent as an RN based on ANMC standards. Great fellow! I'm not really sure how he did it. And come July he will be able to practise anywhere in Oz. But it is quite too late to follow his pathway, with the National Rego coming into effect in two weeks...

i just want to share my time table to others who could learn from some of the foolish things i did before i found how helpful this website is..

jan 2009 - took the ielts exam

april 2009 - applied in nmb nsw for registration as a nurse

june 2009 - received a letter from nsw. they said the level of teaching on the school where i came from is below their uni level. they recommended en program

july 2009 - got depressed.. but only a little

aug 2009 - i planned to take up nursing in nsw instead. had my application assessed first by idp

- had my medical exam done in st. lukes (wrong move - i guess i got too excited.. haha)

sept 2009 - had a prob with the financial docs

nov 2009- got depressed

dec 2009 - discovered allnurses.com. felt really appreciative to those who posts their experiences here and i also felt silly for a while for not having found this site earlier

(i could have saved a lot of money you know..)

jan 27 2010 - submitted my application to nbv

feb 2 2010 - nbv received my docs

april 10 2010 - the day nbv sent a letter confirming my application and req for stat dec

april 21 2010 - the date stamped at the back of the mailing envelope (which means that this is the day it was received in my town's post office). i should have received it at least 3-5 days after

may 14 2010 - my dad found the letter haphazardly placed by the postman in our gate.. it was not delivered properly and on-time. (i went to the post office to file a complaint..)

may 30 2010 - waited for my paycheck before i sent the stat dec

june 2010 - still waiting.. deciding between deakin and la trobe.. hoping to get a reply by aug.. wondering if i need to take the ielts immediately or wait until it expires.. saving money for another med exam and also for additional vaccinations..

most especially, waiting for the posts of the blessed ones who are now in aussie.

god bless to us all!

okay, thanks javRN! lucky for cioman94.. i'm guessing he has years of solid hospital experience that's why he wasn't required to do the BP. :yeah:
