Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
Hi everyone that has responded to me and thank you for the kind messages, I will try to explain all as much as i can.I will be going on a 442 visa, this visa is for vocational training, the visa is for 2 years or how ever long the course lasts for, I will be taken the bridging course which has a cost of $A12,000 which will be lent to me from clinica in Australia of which I will pay back on a monthly basis until paid off.
Ok, after checking around I found that most of the bridging course, are just that the course on its own, this is ok, if I had enough money to be bale to survive, the reason I used an agency, and YES it is probably the expensive way of doing thing, but with it I get and have had good advice, but i have found it best suits my circumstances, maybe not for everyone. as i wrote before, I have checked with as many people as i can about the company and agency in Australia, and they have a good reputaion and this ebcouraged me to go ahead.
The process.
Clinica have a partnership in this country (philippines) they are based in Quezon city near Crame, like everything you dont get something for nothing, so my biggest concern was that whilst training I need a job to earn money, and a 442 Visa give me this and more, unlike a student visa 572 which I can only work 20 hours a week, with a 442 visa the rules our as follows.
""on the 442 visa we have to spent can spend (26.6) in the work place (11.6) study with in the guidlines of the rto criterea encompassed in the submission by the rto when innitial stges of application and then unlimited hrs you can work for their employer as overtime on either the state award or national award, there is a tier system for payment of wages and i think there pay structure is 6 tiered and the 442 applicants wouild be paid by the lowest rung of the pay scale format for that particular vocation""
So what this means is as long as you are completing the course as stated you can work as many hours as you want, the 442 visa comes with working eligability so you can work from day one if you can.
I know this is fact as this is the route my brother had gone and he works about 42hours a week of which is overtime at 1.5 and the average salary is A$15.00/A$18.00, this answer the question of how I will be paying the loan for the bridging course.
Now you have asked why I have to pay so much to get there, like most of you I have emailed many colleges and universities of which YES they have the course, but what they cannot do is find me a workplacement, I know as a trainee I cannot work in a PUblic hospital until qualified, but I still need to work, so what I am offered is a clinic support workers, but thats ok, for now as I am training and the hospital will also be my sponsor when completed course has been done and this will give me a chance to go for Permanent residency of which at the end of the course you have two month to apply for it.
The fees I have to apy before hand are for processing of my Visa and the agency fee that is charged from Australia, the company here made it clear how all works and they do not recieve a fee from me until I have my visa,Clinica charge 50% downpayment to process the application for finding the nominator and booking the coures, and I have to pay 50% of the migration fee in advance, the other fees up front will be A$240 for the embassy.
the balance is for the clinica and migration lawyer, of which i pay after visa and of course my flight, but it was made clear that the price quoted for the flight is an estimate just so I could budget my fees, and it was on the high side, as explained and shown how this is arrived at, but it will be an e ticket and the cost of the flight whether $A800 or $A600 will be what I pay, so my fees could be reduced.
This may not be the route for everyone, but I needed to know that I would have a job that i could earn money when I get there and I wanted the paperwork in advance of being there so i can see that I can work and earn for my living expenses, and when I step of the plane I have temporary accomidation and the things I dont know i have help, Tax File and things like that, for anyone that doesn't know, and this is from my brother, the way the tax works there is like this, all fees that are paid to get to Australia can be claimed back thru your tax, hence why the agency here will invoice the amount I have paid, when you present this to the tax people in Australia, you will have your tax reduced, so in theory you can get your money back or part of it by under paying your tax, this works as I said my brother done the same and he said he got back about 60% in his first year,
As i said this is for me as I need some guarantees on certain issues, maybe not for everyone, I hope this helps explain what ahs happened to me, and maybe if any of your decide to go the same route we will meet,
thank you all maybe we will meet!!!!!
:stone cant understand her.
Thank you Maria. :)
As for additional clarifications, as Maria has said, 442 (Occupational Trainee Visa) will allow you to work as much hours as you want however, the pay would be capped at 15-18/ hr. You will get around 600+ per week before tax. In Australia, the pay and bills are on a weekly basis not monthly. Also, the lessened tax of some sort that she is talking about is the income tax return, if I'm not mistaken, which you can apply for every year at a certain month. By the income tax return, you will get a certain portion of the taxes you paid for the previous fiscal year. You also need to file for this one.
Also, just to elaborate more, the student visa is limited to 20 hours per week during classes but unlimited on vacation breaks (semester breaks or other breaks recognised by the Universities) which means you can work your ass off as much as you want during breaks only (3-4 months breaks per year). The pay rate is, however, uncapped and you can earn as much as 30/hr for Casual jobs.
Btw, the 250 is to be paid on a monthly basis and not weekly as Maria has stated? Also, you will have the training for 2 years not 1 year? A 442 visa btw, is up to 2 years only (but you don't want to be a trainee for more than that I think). You said you will be training and the same hospital will sponsor you; I thought Clinica is a home care facility? What type of Permanent Visa will you be applying for; Is it Skilled - Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 487)? Is your brother a permanent resident now? How long has he been training and working there?
It is true that the Agency way is more expensive but like I said it is beneficial too because of the Job Placements. That is the biggest reason why you would want to have an Agency help you in the first place - to have some sort of security. But, like what Maria has said, it is not for everyone and anyone who can shell out a huge amount of money can do this. It is really a matter of preference.
If you fail part A, you will be referred to the Modules where you got low scores. Because you failed in A you will be disqualifed for B (1 day clinical in Oz). After completing the module/modules, you will go to Oz for the 1 month clinical. The Part B challenge test is only applicable to applicants who passed Part A without completing the modules. It's a make or break scenario.
thanks for the clarification, this is another new info that i didnt know earlier.. kit25, i had some questions posted to you in another forum regarding "certified true copy".. hope you could accommodate me..
Also, when exactly will you be doing the "bridging course"? I am a bit confused about the whole training and bridging course, especially when you said you'll be a trainee for 2 years as health care assistant.
i think what maria shared is an another option for some to look into.. i guess for some to better understand the arrangement, better check the website of said companies.. nonetheless, as what aelith raised, when will the applicant take the bridging course which is 2-3 monts vis-a-vis 2 year training..
at this point i could only speculate that maybe, after arriving in australia, you undertake the bridging program, then after finishing the program whereby you already be registered as an RN, you will have to "train" with Clinica for 2 years at a lower salary.. Btw, during the bridging program, you must have the pocket money for the expenses because you have limited working hours as bridging classes is mon to fri, and you have assignments and must study over the weekend.
i believe said "option" is a legitimate and viable one, it's just that there are some points which are a bit unclear to us.. hope maria would make some clarifications..
For applicants of Western Australia who doesn't have any hospital experience, the bridging course is facilitated by Curtin University of Technology only (1 semester bridging course and the fee is $Au 10,800). IF you have 1 year hospital experience, you can apply with Hollywood Private Hospital (3 months bridging course and the fee is at least $800). For those with 2 years hospital experience you can apply with the Dept. of Health in Western Australia (theory by distance learning and 1 month bridging course (clinical) and the fee is around $2000+).The board of nursing in western australia can evaluate your credentials and get back to you as early as 2 weeks. If you are interested with Curtin University, commencement of program for the bridging course will be February 2009. Intake deadline until Dec. 2008.
There is also a degree conversion course in Curtin University. Instead of two years (like in NSW), you can complete this in 1 year. This is the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) Registered Nurse Conversion. This is a degree course for registered nurses. Entry requirements would be passing IELTS and minimum 3-year initial registration course and hold a current registration in their home country.
in addition: both Hollywood and Dept. of Health WA could reimburse your tuition after passing the course, on certain conditions..

Male & Female nurses with IELTS 5.5 to 6.5+ must be tested and certified will enter Australia under 442 Visa. And must take up the Cert III Aged care Course which runs for 12 Months
The course cost is $A4200 (165,000Php)
In the 12 months period they should study English and try to achieve IELTS 7
Once IELTS 7 has been achieved you can then registered for the Nursing bridging Course to qualify as a registered Licence nurse, as described before and above.
The fee for doing a bridging course in Australia is $A12000 (465,000Php) of which will be financed by Clinica and will be paid back at $A250 per week until the loan is paid out.
Average salary will be $A15.00 per hour plus overtime, this should give a salary of 570Php/Hour and a weekly salary of $A570 per week.
During your training you will undertake paid supervised workplace training as a personal care attendant/caregiver of not less than 26.6 hours per week.
With a 442 Visa you must complete your 11.4 hours a week in a class room to be accredited as a registered nurses. During this time you would be paid 26.6 hours a week and you can either work overtime if available or you can take a second job outside of the care home/hospice.
Please remember the reason nurses are in such shortage in Australia is Australian Nurses and caregiver do not like to work nights and weekends, and at this time the salary is higher, but we can only offer this purpose give you the low end of the salary so you can make an informed decision on whether you wish to go ahead.
The length of the Bridging course is stated as 1 year, but overseas Nurses have completed it within 6 months, once completed you can then move to a Public Hospital, where you would be employed as a registered Nurses and the salary then increases to average A$50,000/year (1,900,000Php). At this stage the Australian government along with our partners will help you organise a loan of $A18, 000 for settlement and $A8000 for a car loans if needed, this is an incentive that the Government of Australia is given overseas nurses. You will of course be able to go for your resident permit once qualified.

Hmm.. Maria could you clarify this one:

, Arial]I'm just a bit confused about the second job outside, because as what I have understood in the immigration website of Australia, you cannot engage in any other work apart from your training.

If you are...
the occupational trainee
You must...
not engage in work in Australia (other than in relation to your course of study or training).
Sorry Maria, I'm just trying to clarify some things for others to understand more about Sawsee since it is another option for them. :) I hope you don't mind my questions.
Hi, I have just read all the answers, as I had said it was way to much to be able to write all on the feed back, this is another option as it has been said, I today spoke with the hospital that has offered me employment whilst training, I will try to explain so everyone can look at this to see if it fit what you are looking for, I also went to get some of the question posted answered from Sawsee today, I have listed most of the question and I will post all the reply tomorrow when i have all the answers.
One thing in Sawsee's favour and I have to make this very clear, they are a very honest company and explain everything, they do not put any pressure on me to pay anything they help as much as they can and even advised me on other options for and offered me all the contact and people that I need to talk to and welcomed the chance to help answer as many question as he could so as to help anyone they can achieve what he called was their dreams, I PROMISE TO POST AS MANY ANSWERS FOR YOU ALL AS SOON AS I HAVE THEM MAYBE LATER I AM WAITING FOR THE EMAIL, AS IT WAS TO MUCH TO REMEMBER TODAY.
Please keep checking back
Thank you Maria. I have emailed them too with several questions just in case.
Goodluck thinkerbel with your application. And best of luck to all those going through the bridging course and agencies. Maybe we can see each other there later on... form a group or something.. or just to check how everyone's doing. :) Especially, most of us are going there on our own, without any relatives or friends at all.
