Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
hope this is of help to you, my friend has just completed the papers with Sawsee International, they were very good to her, there is a fee but she has to pay most after visa and the bridging course has been lent to her, she showed me all the paperwork, and they give the name of the company they deal with Clinica in Victoria, the fees are 250,000Php plus the bridging course 26.6 hours paid work with overtime and 11.9 hours study a one year course if you have IELTS 7+ and you can apply if you have IELTS 5.5, but the program co-ordinator has said they can help with the IELTS side to make the course cheaper and you wont have to study for IELTS in Australia, I have just raided my deposit and I am applying as well,Highly recommended people so nice when we went there:nurse:
Sorry that includes the flight as well

Just out of curiosity, you will be paying back Clinica while you study the one year course? And you will be working 26.6 hours per week only? What visa will you be under? If it's a student visa, you are only allowed to work 20 hours per week. And if you go beyond the 20 hours, there will be a problem for you.
And is it true that you have to pay 250 AUD to Clinica every week for the course? Will you be paying 250 AUD per week during the 1 year stay or when you get a job after the registration?
I'm sorry but that got me a bit worried since you will be working in a limited number of hours per week IF you will be under a student visa. And if you are to pay 250 AUD back per week, add your living expenses... you are looking at an almost negative balance. The pay that you will get will be taxed, so it will be less when it gets to you. Rent is not cheap too, but will be okay if they will provide you free accommodation. Say for example, you said you will be working 26.6 hours per week. Assuming you will make 20/hr, your total weekly pay is only 532 AUD and the tax will be anywhere from 63 - 100+ AUD (depending on what days you will work - holidays, weekends and overtime get taxed a whole lot more). Subtract the 250 AUD for Clinica, you will have probably around 200 AUD left. The rent will be around 150 AUD per week (shared accommodation), add your food, bills and transpo.
Okay, just found out that you will be under a 442 Visa or the Occupational Trainee visa. I have also checked Clinica and you will be employed as caregivers and not as RNs right? I would recommend you to check the prevailing minimum wage for trainees as they get lower salaries for being a trainee (20-25% less than the normal wage). You can expect to be paid around 15-18 AUD/hr if you will be a trainee.
You might also want to ask them if they will be looking for a suitable employer for you once you finished the bridging course because it says in Sawsee's website that the contract is only good for 1 year. It is also stated there that it will lead to Permanent Residency which I am very doubtful about. I haven't read anything about a 442 visa leading to a PR visa especially after 1 year. It could be possible if the training was for trade skills (e.g. welder, chef, etc.), but if not, I'm not really sure you could be eligible at the very least.
On the other hand, there is one visa that you can apply for if you will be nominated by a participating State or Territory government agency - Skilled - Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 487). That is the only one I found for a 442 Visa (Occupational trainee visa) as a requirement for PR. However, you will only have the opportunity to apply for permanent residency after you have lived for two (2) years, and worked at least 12 months, in a Specified Regional Area of Australia. Regional area is similar to Rural/Country Area. But the question is, will the agency arrange this for you?
I don't want to sound like I'm discouraging you but at least want you to be informed of the other important facts the agency might not have told you. Hopefully this will be of help. :)
And IMHO, it is not the cheapest out there since the bridging course alone will cost you 12000 AUD (even if lent at first, you will be paying it back). The costs for agencies going for Queensland is only 9.3k AUD including everything, from accommodation, air fare to bridging course fees and Visa and employment as RN. They will also be using a 457 visa which can actually lead to PR after 1-2 years. The salary will also be higher since they will be working as full-time RNs and not as trainees. Just my
I thank all people that have given there advise, and believe me like most of you by the sounds of it we have all done our research, i even ask some friends of mine to check the agency in Australia, I have also been in touch with some other nurses that have gone with Clinica, and I have to say which is unusual they are everything they seem to be, no frills and all is explained to me, who and where money is paid how the visa works, and it is not as if I dont no how 442 works, i have had some exprience, this is not the first time nurses can transfer their Visa over, it is not as hard as people have seem to think, I have a brother who is a nurse and he went the same way, but the agency he used wanted to send me to the middle east, as there program was full, but recommended clinica to me, so I investigated all there claims, and found nothing wrong, in fact they are known by the POLO in Australia, as i believe from the information I was given that they have other programs.
in a copy of the contract they sent me and further discussion with the contact here is has been explained that the placement I will get is also willing to sponsor my visa after trining, this is what happend to my brother as well, they sponsored his 457 visa he has been there now three years, I appriciate evryone answers, and like all of you i had doubts, and have been to so many agencies asking for money up front for this and that and telling me all sorts that i would be there within three months, this is the only people that were straight with me,a nd after checking them out and that was easy, if you know someone in Australia, just ask POLO, they are known, so for me what better recomendation, as everyone knows it is complicated so I just put the a few deatils on here, but I wish every body luck whom ever you are dealing with, but this one is for me,
thank you again everybody
Hmm.. correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it that should you fail Part A, you will be referred to the "Theory Modules" where you got low scores. Then after that you will proceed to Part B (1 day clinical) and should you fail again, you will be referred to take the 4 weeks clinical. So, Part A will not be the deciding factor for the 1 day clinical or 4 weeks clinical practice?Hehe.. sorry got confused in your statement a bit.
If you fail part A, you will be referred to the Modules where you got low scores. Because you failed in A you will be disqualifed for B (1 day clinical in Oz). After completing the module/modules, you will go to Oz for the 1 month clinical. The Part B challenge test is only applicable to applicants who passed Part A without completing the modules. It's a make or break scenario.
For applicants of Western Australia who doesn't have any hospital experience, the bridging course is facilitated by Curtin University of Technology only (1 semester bridging course and the fee is $Au 10,800). IF you have 1 year hospital experience, you can apply with Hollywood Private Hospital (3 months bridging course and the fee is at least $800). For those with 2 years hospital experience you can apply with the Dept. of Health in Western Australia (theory by distance learning and 1 month bridging course (clinical) and the fee is around $2000+).
The board of nursing in western australia can evaluate your credentials and get back to you as early as 2 weeks. If you are interested with Curtin University, commencement of program for the bridging course will be February 2009. Intake deadline until Dec. 2008.
There is also a degree conversion course in Curtin University. Instead of two years (like in NSW), you can complete this in 1 year. This is the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) Registered Nurse Conversion. This is a degree course for registered nurses. Entry requirements would be passing IELTS and minimum 3-year initial registration course and hold a current registration in their home country.
Hi look at the website for contact http://www.sawseeint.com they are assisting me with nursing with their partners clinica to go to Australia on a 442 practical work based visa or vocational visa, this is not a student visa 552 as quoted earlier, i have emailed clinica and they ahve explained everything, but good luck if you apply we may meet at one of the meeting
Big thanks to Maria and Kit for enlightening us more about the pathways in Australia. That is good news that Maria have first hand information about the said Agency. At least we know that the agency is at least credible.
Maybe, Maria, if you don't mind, can you elaborate more on the 250k Pesos fee breakdown and when will you be paying the said 250 AUD per week borrowed money? I think this will be an important information for most, especially those without enough additional money to use for their stay in Australia.
Many thanks in advance.
Btw, just for clarification, the 2 years graduate entry degrees in NSW are not really conversion programs. It is specifically intended for those who want to have a change in career and for Enrolled Nurses or other health care who want to upgrade their qualification to a degree level. However, Overseas registered nurses can also apply to this program. conversion programs are supposed to be 1 year in duration only. You can find them in Queensland, WA and I think in Victoria too.
