New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

I so envy you all. It seems that most of you already have the necessary requirements and are just waiting for the approval. The only step that I have taken so far is processing my passport. I just started yesterday and still have to wait for its release. Now, the next step I'll do is the IELTS exam. But I'm not yet decided if I'll go for a review center or not.

I haven't gotten my board certificate yet and the PRC keeps on giving excuses about it.

I know where to study but I'm not even sure if I'll go for the BP or I'll just study one year in a university. You see, I don't have any work experience so I'm quite hesitating to take BP. I'm not sure if 3-6 months is enough for me to be confident again in this field. Plus, I'm so worried because it will be my first time to study abroad. I might experience culture shock. So I think it's better for me to just study for one year, like my former classmate who's in the same situation as me. The thing is, it costs a lot than BP. I'm also lookign for an agency to help me but I'm searching for a reliable one. And I'm also having second thought if I really need an agency. My mind is so confused! I've been lurking and reading a lot of posts but I hope somebody can help me decide or give me suggestions. :(

>uh_huh? If you making fun of me I ignore you. I still alive and kicking so why you praying over me?:madface::madface:

>Mr.silvermed Thank you for being suppportive of my endeavors. I will love to meeting you and Ms.Haoyin together. You are sure it is okay for me to lending your review materials? I really am very much thankfull to you not like some people here calling names like creepy and not being helpfull. I will pm you Mr.silverymed so you can say me detail of meeting. I will be very excited of this meeting soon. TY very much for inviting me.

>Hoayin I not resent your amusement for me. It is correct what you say me I only try to be nice but some people call me creepy even fellow alumni saying "second the motion" for saying me creepy. Thank you and I am forwardly looking for meeting you and Mr.silverymeds.

>NewMac Ms.Haoyin already explaining that you not making funny laughing at me. I hope you forgive my confusion and wishing you many luck in your statery decleration and application.

>Wanihe888 Thank you for explaining what voip is. I will researching this cheaper way for calling victoria so not spending money reckless. And nice that you giving us information on regulation national law changes. TY.

Bye1!!!

So this is what I did for the Stat Dec...

Made a letter stating my name/address/profeesion and the reason why I dont have any experience -because that's what the NBV letter asked.

The letter I used made no reference to any Australian/Victorian Law whatsover. -This letter was accepted by the Phil. Embassy.

I actually prepared two letters -the other one menntions the Australia/Victiorian Law for Stat Dec. -The phil embassy rejected it -their reason made sense as the declaration is not being done in Aus.

Uh_huh? sent me a PM quoting someone saying that the Board requires that is should state the aus/vic law etc... etc... etc...

@uh_huh? thanks to your help!

Whether my letter will be accepted or not... I will letb you know.

Oh by the way, @Lithotomy, seriously?

I totally understand your predicaments and if it would make you feel any better, most if not all of us did go through the same things that you're going through. What I would suggest for you to do now is to take things slowly. I get it that you're trying to get things done fast but you seem to be getting ahead of yourself hence you feel lost and confused. Take a deep breath and manage what you should be doing one step at a time.

While waiting for your passport and board certificate, you can start preparing for your IELTS. If you have a good English training back in your secondary and tertiary education then you don't really need to review for it. Just familiarize yourself with how the exam is done and you're set to go. If you find the need to review then there are many online resources that can help you even without the need for a review center. On the other hand, review centers can help you in terms of study time management and some review centers have coaches that you can practice speaking with. Meanwhile, during your extra time, I suggest you read on conversion courses and bridging programs, so more or less you won't be as confused as you are right now. Don't rush things as rushing won't get you nowhere perhaps even cause you to make a wrong decision. Back read on forum threads and research on your own. Information you get from forums only serve as a guide but it is always better to get info first hand.

If you have already figured out which path you want to take may it be conversion or BP or post grad BCN courses and if you are already decided where you want to take this, then determine if you want to apply on your own or seek the help of an agency. Generally, notwithstanding spending issues then applying with an agency can help you in terms of being a bit more lax with your application since an agency would already know the usual process. Also, some agencies would offer a package in helping you deal with accommodation/school/visa application/and even employment after you finish your course. But if you're on a tight budget, you can simply do this on your own. Everything can be googled nowadays...

Hope I was able to help you get on track. Feel free to pm me if you need further info.

Good luck.

Haoyin>> Thank you so much Haoyin. I really need this. I guess I am just so overwhelmed! LOL! I've actually researched about BP and conversion but I'm still confused. For me, BP is more convenient so I don't understand why some prefer the other method which is more expensive and lengthy. So I wonder if I have missed something here. But like what you've said, I think I need to research more. I'm getting stubborn because I really want to avoid going to agencies if I can atleast do it on my own like others did.

Thanks again. :)

uh_huh>> Thanks for your kindness but I can't send you PM. I don't know why. Could you please send your email add instead? :)
