New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

sorry i cant send pm yet...i talked with some pinoys who are in the conversion with me, and they dont have eligibility from nmbwa. i paid for semester 1 only. plus insurance for the whole duration of my stay. and yes, classes can be done in 3 days which leaves me ample time to get a casual job...

Good day guys!

I have this question that has been bugging me for a long time. I have 2 years work experience from a hospital but I have resigned last march 2009 to focus on my IELTS, the problem now is I am having a hard time getting employed I want to register with NZMC my question is will NZMC accept my professional references even if the supervisors that made the references are from my previous employer? because currently I am not employed in a hospital.

Hope somebody can answer me.... thanks and Goodluck to all..

i was also assessed by the NMBWA last Novermber 2009.too bad i wasnt able to get a slot for the BP.that was a big blow for me. imagine, the conversion doubles the tuition fee. but ive moved on from that. anyway, im on campus housing, so its like 5 mins walk from the NSG dept. if u like, im gonna ask for you how you can process your application from UK?coz i heard somebody once that IDP works hand in hand with British IELTS, maybe u can go through them.

curtin is nice, very conducive for learning-hahaha! well, we will only be attending 4 subjects anyway(i have 3 days of school).and each subject has a lecture for 1 hour and tutorial for 2 hrs (not bad-eh?)...it is located in bentley, about 25mins away from perth by bus(and the fare is so cheap-77cents).im looking for part time jobs(to spend for daily expenses). dont ever have the illusion that u ca n pay for the tuition thru part time job. :)when u come here, most (90%) of the students are international and everybody works part time for rent n daily expenses. i paid Au$11,300 for the 1st sem.take note u have to pay for student insurance as well-its part of the visa conditions.there are 6 of us pinoys doing the conversion and about 5 doing BP-and yes, we have the same subjects...but they will be the last batch.should u have other concerns, just holler and maybe i can help.

Zyann:

the thing is they dont require experience.i wasnt even hired by the gov hosp i worked in, i was a volunteer like u. once u get the conversion, u get to be an Au Rn and we will all start work as level 1 nurses.the universities will accept u with ur ielts but before u graduate, u must get the 7 band ielts if u wish to register with the board.u can always get the ielts here.

to Carl1984:

it took me 3 weeks to get my visa.so yep, pretty sure u can make it.most of those whom i talked to also got theirs in like 3-6 weeks...just make u sure uve got everything ready while waiting for the ielts result.Best of Luck!!!

thanks a lot.. pls help us.. hope to see you soo in curtin..

yup thanks pls ask them how i can process my document here in UK to go to ausi..

how did you do with your show money? how much money do you have in your acount prior to lodging of documents? how long this money is in your account? do i need to open an acount in australia for my show money? sadly, my brother told me he cant sponsor me because he is not PR yet in ausi.

thanks a lot waiting for your reply. Godbless.

@zyann :)

conversion course literally means u convert ur PI license to Au license.it's a bachelor degree, so wen u finish it, u become a graduate of Au, which makes u eligible for registration as a nurse here. check out Curtin university-bachelor of nursing-Post conversion for registered nurses.and u have to pass the ielts in order to register with the board.that is one of the conditions...

oh and i wanted to ask, is it the same with UK? will u be also a RN there?because i have no idea with UK,and some of my friends from the hosp in pnas hu went there said they dont work as nurses...

student visa here in UK is just for health and social care you can just work in nursing homes even after you finish your study here and you will not end up as RN. but you can also apply for adaptation this is same as BP in ausi but first you have to obtain a decision letter from NMC(nursing midwifery council in UK) they require IELTS 7.o in all subtest and 12 month full time hospital experience. but it is not advisable here in UK bcoz of the bad weather, expensive living cost and limited job vacancies.

i like it here.i was in sydney before and it's world apart from perth...so much cheaper here and it is a very clean place. :) there are a lot of parks and its not congested at all.yep, i am on student visa (573)-and its good for 1 year (conversion course takes 9 months).

u can start applying for uni as of now.because once they approve it and give u a Letter of offer, u can choose which intake u want-u know if ur ready to lodge application to the Au immig. :) at least u have the Offer letter already...take care!

wow i like in perth my brother told me that perth is the most peaceful place in ausi and the weather is so nice along with the environment.. i'm going now to apply in curtin and in murdoch i hope i can receive letter of offer from them so that i can choose.. after i receive my letter of offer and pay 11300AUD pls guide me in my visa application specially financial requirement coz i am confused about that.. thanks a lot.. hope we will be schoolmate soon..

@sunchaser

is there no conversion program in other schools?.. im worrying about the tuition,, its too expensive:( after taking that conversion course? wuts next step? thanks :)

edith cowan university 18400AUD

murdoch university 19000AUD

curtin university 23000AUD

murdoch and curtin is located in or near perth.. edith cowan in joondalup outside perth if im not mistaken.. i've got an email today from the 3 universities edith cowan says i need to have IELTS 7.0 in all subtest and minimum of 2 years hospital experience, according to murdoch they also need IELTS and minimum of 1 year experience, curtin however need IELTS 6.0, 6.5 and needs experience but they dont told me how many years of experience they require but then require me to submit a letter from my employer or certificate of employment. in curtin after you graduated you have to have IELTS 7.0 in all subtest for you to be eligible to register in NMBWA as RN. both 3 universities are accredited by NMBWA for conversion..

For show money (you have to show them a bank certificate showing a record of three months transaction, either your own account or your sponsor's):

Tuition fee - A$20,000 (for 1 year in Murdoch)

Living Expenses - A$18,000 (for 1 year)

Airfare - A$1,500 (this is Phil-AUS, it might be different since you're in UK)

TOTAL - A$39,500

You can see everything about applying for a student visa at:

http://www.immi.gov.au

or if what you are looking for is not there, e-mail

[email protected]

Better if you can call/e-mail the Australian Embassy in UK so that you'll know how to process the visa from there.

For the documents, application form can be downloaded from http://www.immi.gov.au. Yes, you have to notarize documents like the Affidavit of Support if you have a sponsor. The rest of documents like TOR, birth certificate, bank certificate must be all original

All these info I provide are based on my own research. You may want to do your own for validation.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hi! wahine, this is very interesting info you have here. I'm also bound to NMBWA, If this is case what score of ielts do they need in every subtest? Thanks. and I hope hear from you soon. God bless.:)

hi to emil haha.. the first sem is on february-march the 2nd sem is every july-august.. take your ielts i know you will get 7 in all.. i dont know about installment but i guess it's better to pay them in full anyways if you will find part time jobs i think you can pay your tuition fees for the second sem specially when you have relative in ausi so you might be free in accomodation.. i know you know someone in ausi.. hehe..:p
