New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

hi.. just read all the posts here and you will know how to process. and i know there are so many posts here so you might not read them all. but try to read them they are very informative.. it will help you a lot.

if you need clarifications just post your questions here.. anyways, im here in uk as student and it is really hard here.. no vacancies for part time that's why im persuing my dream in ausi to be rn there.. it is much advisable to study in ausi than uk but the tuition fee is more expensive in ausi than here in uk..

realistically, there is no part time job here for nurses if you don't have the nbv license. they won't hire you. part time jobs can be just other usual jobs like fast food or something, but they prioritize also the pr and citizen and last option are holders of other passports. coz even the pcas need certificates... depends also on your location.

yes... he can sponsor you. just show his cert of employment and show money in the bank, not necessarily to reach the 1 m thingy, as long as there is income he can sponsor you. yes, nurses are still in demand here as in super hehehe... checkout mycareer.com.au or seek.com.au . i was even thinking if i should study to become a nurse too because it's like the easiest job you can get here as long as you are qualified with nbv license and experience in your field ie. icu, emergency, theatre, etc...and there are also graduate programs that you can join if your a fresh grad. anyway, i will study to become a teacher in 2011 at deakin. they have a 1 year course called master of teaching, you can take that if you have a bachelor's degree and get a license afterwards to teach :) there was a tv news that australia needs more migrants and they have to be either nurses or teachers..

thanks a lot.. glad to here that.. there are a lot of options hmmm wanting to go there very soon.. thanks thanks..

wow so i dont need 1.6m for my show money.. coz when i compute it for 1 year conversion i need 1.6m but now it's not.. haha so happy.. i just have to pay the tuition fee and request affidavit of support from my brother, his cert of employment and bank cert then i can now lodge my documents... so affordable.. thanks a lot.. il start my application now.. thanks to you.. pls always update us here and along the way of my application i will post here some questions i hope you are not busy to answer them.. thanks a lot.. and goodluck.. gb

ah ok.. thanks.. it's much better to study in ausi rather than here in uk.. both with limited part time job. but uk is more expensinve in cost of living and bad weather here in uk.. hehe.. im excited to move in ausi soon.. pls guide me guide us.. thanks a lot.. take care

i was also assessed by the NMBWA last Novermber 2009.too bad i wasnt able to get a slot for the BP.that was a big blow for me. imagine, the conversion doubles the tuition fee. but ive moved on from that. anyway, im on campus housing, so its like 5 mins walk from the NSG dept. if u like, im gonna ask for you how you can process your application from UK?coz i heard somebody once that IDP works hand in hand with British IELTS, maybe u can go through them.

curtin is nice, very conducive for learning-hahaha! well, we will only be attending 4 subjects anyway(i have 3 days of school).and each subject has a lecture for 1 hour and tutorial for 2 hrs (not bad-eh?)...it is located in bentley, about 25mins away from perth by bus(and the fare is so cheap-77cents).im looking for part time jobs(to spend for daily expenses). dont ever have the illusion that u ca n pay for the tuition thru part time job. :)when u come here, most (90%) of the students are international and everybody works part time for rent n daily expenses. i paid Au$11,300 for the 1st sem.take note u have to pay for student insurance as well-its part of the visa conditions.there are 6 of us pinoys doing the conversion and about 5 doing BP-and yes, we have the same subjects...but they will be the last batch.should u have other concerns, just holler and maybe i can help.

Zyann:

the thing is they dont require experience.i wasnt even hired by the gov hosp i worked in, i was a volunteer like u. once u get the conversion, u get to be an Au Rn and we will all start work as level 1 nurses.the universities will accept u with ur ielts but before u graduate, u must get the 7 band ielts if u wish to register with the board.u can always get the ielts here.

it took me 3 weeks to get my visa.so yep, pretty sure u can make it.most of those whom i talked to also got theirs in like 3-6 weeks...just make u sure uve got everything ready while waiting for the ielts result.Best of Luck!!!

hey yayey :)

have u applied to the list of BP stated in that letter from the NMBWA? i applied to all of them and they were all full and most of them will cease to provide the BP soon. like i said, sa curtin, last intake is this march 2010.that leaves you the conversion.thats what me, ana, armi, and so many others are doing right now...what do u plan to do with ur LoF?

@sunchaser1019

im still kinda confuse on the process of student visa application in Australia.. not familiar wit the conversion, etc.. anyways,, wut if i havent get the ielts score of 7 before i graduate? wut will happen wit me? and may i ask wuts the best course to take in ausi? i still dont have an idea.. i know more on UK student visa application but i still rather want to go in Ausi please , im a BSN-RN here.. thanks a lot :)

@zyann :)

conversion course literally means u convert ur PI license to Au license.it's a bachelor degree, so wen u finish it, u become a graduate of Au, which makes u eligible for registration as a nurse here. check out Curtin university-bachelor of nursing-Post conversion for registered nurses.and u have to pass the ielts in order to register with the board.that is one of the conditions...

oh and i wanted to ask, is it the same with UK? will u be also a RN there?because i have no idea with UK,and some of my friends from the hosp in pnas hu went there said they dont work as nurses...

@sunchaser

actually i duno also in UK.. wut i just know is the step by step process of application of student visa in UK but to become an RN there, i really dont have an idea.. sorry :) most of the nurses who applied as student visa (health and social care) in UK only work in Nursing homes.. i duno if theres any who is already working as RN.. anyways thanks fo the info.. some of my friends there in uK also dont have work untill now..:( are u a student visa in ausi? hows life there? are u able to keep some money from part time jobs and able to pay tuition? im just new here :) i dont have ielts as of now.. ill just take it on march20.. i hope ill make it to 7..:( thanks :)
